Our weekly Watchlist refresh took place earlier today and the eagle-eyed amongst you may have spotted the latest ranking changes for our mid-term player recommendations. Those new to all this shebang can find the Watchlist rankings at the bottom of the sidebar on your frontpage.

Movement within the rankings is pretty tame in comparison to previous weeks with Chelsea’s fixtures kind enough to see their top rated players – Petr Cech, Ashley Cole and Didier Drogba hold firm in top spots. Improved runs for both United and Arsenal have seen their assets enjoy climbs however, with Cesc Fabregas coming close to toppling Nani at the top of our Midfield rankings.

In the Keepers table there are climbs for Tim Howard of Everton and Jussi Jaaskelainen of Bolton as both embark on kind opponent runs. Our earlier “Frisking of the Fixtures†revealed that both teams are set to embark on schedules that bring them four home fixtures in the next six Gameweeks.

Arsenal were also singled out in that article and subsequently we see Lucasz Fabianski holding firm in the Keeper rankings, despite the impending threat from Manuel Almunia. The Pole’s performance at Eastlands last weekend should be enough to see him maintain his start and, with a clean sheet in that game, the Gunners will go into their next three Gameweeks with renewed confidence at the back.

That’s also reflected in our Defenders rankings where Sébastien Squillaci enjoys a climb in the middle of the table. Above him we have the goal threat and improved clean sheet potential of Gary Cahill and the latest bargain acquisition in the form of Newcastle’s Danny Simpson. He returned to the starting lineup at Upton Park last time out and at 3.9 offers a superb “route to recruit†option for Fabregas hunters. Simpson’s rise has Jose Enrique dropping, despite his stronger assist potential. Newcastle’s clean sheet returns have been disappointing but three strong home fixtures in the next four certainly shows promise.

Out top five Defenders remain untouched with Chelsea’s Cole attracting Bonus Points in addition to clean sheets, the Everton pairing of Seamus Coleman and Leighton Baines offering strong attacking potential along with Sunderland’s “out of position†Egyptian Elmohamady. United’s Patrice Evra has also enjoyed a recent boost having claimed a left midfield starting role at Stoke last weekend. That could well continue to be the case against Spurs in Gameweek ten. John O’Shea enters high again as the cheaper option in a United defence which should pick up points in the next month with four Old Trafford encounters in the next six.

The top positions in the midfield area also survived. Fabregas pushed Nani for the top spot, while Rafael Van der Vaart held on to the fifth with his goal against Everton, despite facing trips to United and Bolton next. Climbs for West Brom’s Chris Brunt and Arsenal’s Samir Nasri weren’t quite enough to see them break the top five then. Below them Kevin Nolan’s goal and link-up with housemate Andy Carroll appears to bode well ahead of Newcastle’s run of home fixtures. Ashley Young also enjoys a climb as his fixtures improve slightly with four home games in six, even if the opponents include both United and Arsenal.

Injury concerns for Carlos Tevez and the new threat of rotation with Mario Balotelli has him drop from second in the Forward rankings. Below him he’s now threatened by the resurging Andy Carroll and the consistent form of Johan Elmander which, given his fixtures to come, could continue to bear fruit for those Fantasy Managers taking a punt on Bolton’s Swede. Fulham’s returning trickster Mousa Dembele is an interesting climb at the halfway point, while West Brom’s Peter Odemwingie needs to shake off his injury woes to re-establish himself in the top five. He drops today but could climb again if we can get solid news on his fitness. Finally, Mexican of the moment, Javier Hernandez has to settle for a surprisingly lowly footing. The threat of Rooney’s return in a fortnight surely dents his potential beyond Gameweek’s ten and eleven.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Last year I thought i was doing really well rotating players with easy fixtures. This year i just seem to have players that i'll have all season. Worst decision i've made so far was dropping ash cole for "difficult fixtures" thinking his price might even drop and look what happened. luckily a cheap as chips bosingwa has covered my ass. Basically my teams not going to change without injuries now. untouchables. Hart, elmo, bosingwa, malouda, cesc, VDV, drogs. (maybe nani as well for man u cover)
    my defence is so bad to accommodate all these players i can't change any of them for fixtures. I'm actually thinking of downgrading alcaraz/jones to simpson so i can change chamakh to bent or van persie which would just make things even worse! I look at the best players in the game and they have a mix of players but i have the same as everyone crammed in with no room to move. I might get rid of nani when fixtures change for man u but he's my only cover. Maybe the guys winning the game at the moment are the ones who took risks on the nasris, walcotts and dropping drogs. maybe They'll take more risks and drop down the table. Think chelsea being so strong this year is going to spoil it. I can't see a way of not having 3 of there players all year whatever the fixtures which doesn't leave much money for others. Wish i had the guts to go for nzog, ethers, elmander over nani malouda, drogs. maybe if i get in drunk one night. any thoughts???

      I'd be wary of having so many players who at risk of rotation. Nani, Berba, Coleman and Bosingwa won't play every game imo.

      It's only a matter of time before De Jong gets sent off and he is very unlikely to score or assist.

      Molouda and fabs are definitly ones to keep. VDV has been on an excellent run, but I'd drop him for peinaar if I was you. Peinaar is due a goal and everton are looking much better now, whereas VDV is owed a few 2 pointers imo.

      Players I'd consider bringing in.........

      Anelka, Gerrard and Jagielka.

      Best of luck.

    For those worried about Coleman's starting place, consider this.

    Everton's league record this season,

    WITHOUT Coleman starting: 0 wins, 2 draws, 3 losses, 0 clean sheets.

    WITH Coleman starting: 2 wins, 2 draws, 0 losses, 2 clean sheets.

    He'll start.

      I really don't think Managers choose their 11 based on those kind of stats, they look at a much bigger picture, they also take into account how the player is playing. Players can have a blinder and be on the losing side, and some can have a stinker and win the game.

    Ok guys, need to decide tonight on which of these 3 to do...(3rd one a result of Tevez looking doubtful for w/e)....what do you think is the best option? All are for a 4 point hit.

    a) Etherington & Malouda -> Fabs & Nasri
    b) Bale & Alex -> Fabs & Coleman
    c) Etherington & Tevez -> Fabs & Chamakh

    Chamakh and Nasri would be short term transfers, coming out in 2-3 weeks for RVP/VDV.

      a for me

      I'm considering either Malouda for Fabs or Davies (injured) for Nasri.

      I'd be worried to about chamakh's place with Bendtner back

      If you lay Arsenal tonight for example, you lose if they win.

      Laying means being the bookie.

      So if you back Arsenal to win, then you can only get your money back if they win.

      If you lay Arsenal to win, then you get your money back if they don't (so lose and draw are what you want).

      Also, most bets will be over 90 minutes, even if the game goes to extra time. Whatever the score is at fulltime, that'll be your bet.

      Lay means how much you would lose a particular outcome. So,

      Say it was Back 10 - Lay 10

      If you put £2 on at 10, you would win £20 (inc stake)
      You could also lay at 10, so the backer would put £2 on against you, if the selection loses, you would win the £2 but if it wins you would have to pay the backer £10.

      I generally lay if the odds are below EVENS (I do it with horses which are under 1.2 all the time) for a tiny lay you could win a lot.

      Occasionally you can get arbitrage opportunities by backing a bet on one site and laying it on another - usually need some kind of offer to make it work, but when they were doing those double odds paddy power specials a couple of good ones came up!
