Our weekly Watchlist refresh took place earlier today and the eagle-eyed amongst you may have spotted the latest ranking changes for our mid-term player recommendations. Those new to all this shebang can find the Watchlist rankings at the bottom of the sidebar on your frontpage.

Movement within the rankings is pretty tame in comparison to previous weeks with Chelsea’s fixtures kind enough to see their top rated players – Petr Cech, Ashley Cole and Didier Drogba hold firm in top spots. Improved runs for both United and Arsenal have seen their assets enjoy climbs however, with Cesc Fabregas coming close to toppling Nani at the top of our Midfield rankings.

In the Keepers table there are climbs for Tim Howard of Everton and Jussi Jaaskelainen of Bolton as both embark on kind opponent runs. Our earlier “Frisking of the Fixtures” revealed that both teams are set to embark on schedules that bring them four home fixtures in the next six Gameweeks.

Arsenal were also singled out in that article and subsequently we see Lucasz Fabianski holding firm in the Keeper rankings, despite the impending threat from Manuel Almunia. The Pole’s performance at Eastlands last weekend should be enough to see him maintain his start and, with a clean sheet in that game, the Gunners will go into their next three Gameweeks with renewed confidence at the back.

That’s also reflected in our Defenders rankings where Sébastien Squillaci enjoys a climb in the middle of the table. Above him we have the goal threat and improved clean sheet potential of Gary Cahill and the latest bargain acquisition in the form of Newcastle’s Danny Simpson. He returned to the starting lineup at Upton Park last time out and at 3.9 offers a superb “route to recruit” option for Fabregas hunters. Simpson’s rise has Jose Enrique dropping, despite his stronger assist potential. Newcastle’s clean sheet returns have been disappointing but three strong home fixtures in the next four certainly shows promise.

Out top five Defenders remain untouched with Chelsea’s Cole attracting Bonus Points in addition to clean sheets, the Everton pairing of Seamus Coleman and Leighton Baines offering strong attacking potential along with Sunderland’s “out of position” Egyptian Elmohamady. United’s Patrice Evra has also enjoyed a recent boost having claimed a left midfield starting role at Stoke last weekend. That could well continue to be the case against Spurs in Gameweek ten. John O’Shea enters high again as the cheaper option in a United defence which should pick up points in the next month with four Old Trafford encounters in the next six.

The top positions in the midfield area also survived. Fabregas pushed Nani for the top spot, while Rafael Van der Vaart held on to the fifth with his goal against Everton, despite facing trips to United and Bolton next. Climbs for West Brom’s Chris Brunt and Arsenal’s Samir Nasri weren’t quite enough to see them break the top five then. Below them Kevin Nolan’s goal and link-up with housemate Andy Carroll appears to bode well ahead of Newcastle’s run of home fixtures. Ashley Young also enjoys a climb as his fixtures improve slightly with four home games in six, even if the opponents include both United and Arsenal.

Injury concerns for Carlos Tevez and the new threat of rotation with Mario Balotelli has him drop from second in the Forward rankings. Below him he’s now threatened by the resurging Andy Carroll and the consistent form of Johan Elmander which, given his fixtures to come, could continue to bear fruit for those Fantasy Managers taking a punt on Bolton’s Swede. Fulham’s returning trickster Mousa Dembele is an interesting climb at the halfway point, while West Brom’s Peter Odemwingie needs to shake off his injury woes to re-establish himself in the top five. He drops today but could climb again if we can get solid news on his fitness. Finally, Mexican of the moment, Javier Hernandez has to settle for a surprisingly lowly footing. The threat of Rooney’s return in a fortnight surely dents his potential beyond Gameweek’s ten and eleven.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

thinking of the same here too, but if I get Fabs then I only have £5.2m for a defender so not sure its worth it. Better off in my case getting Brunt or Adam for Bale and then deal with Konchesky next week.

You never know, Liverpool may keep a cleanie against Bolton.

        Back line reads:

        Alex/Samba/Coleman/Elmo/Williamson

Kolarov isn't eactly OOP, but from what I've heard, he gets forward as much as Ashley Cole. If CIteh play with their 3 holding mids, they'll need the full back to push forward. I think Mancini said as much recently.

His fitness is another matter, though, I wouldn't advise buying him just yet.

If Tevez is confirmed out, would you do:

    A. Tevez, Vaughan > Odemwingie, Fabs
    B. Tevez, Vaughan > Dembele, Fabs
    C. Tevez, Dempsey > Elmander, Fabs

Option C leaves me with 5 (maybe too)strong midfielders, and with problems whom to bench.

    Cheers.

I woould blow up all the kiddy filddling afghans for a start, send in an international force to search and destroy.

Second, id have assassins kill mugabe.

Third, id decommission all nukes, and get men on mars.

Third, id get DB some PROPER help.

Fourth, i would decree katie minister for assists.

Fifth, i would ask Katie to assist me.

Sixth, I would hang George Bush, then say, now watch this drive.

Seventh, I would end world hunger by making Macdonalds do delivery.

Eighth, i would enact an all party committee on a bonus points panel.

Ninth, i would have three month holiday on an island complete with oil-clad women.

Tenth, I would appoint David Norris to rule with virtue as my successor as i'd be like a Prune after that holiday.

We can never "know", but TotalFPL is usually near enough the mark on these things, and we do know that protection exists, so even if the protection ended a couple of days back, I am still pretty confident Fabregas will not rise until at least Friday if even that. We cannot know for certain though.

I stand to make a further .1 to sell Malouda in any event so I am not too bothered

I stand as u Johny in order to make that 0.1 on Malouda but with the NTI's at the moment and the fact that a lot of lads will sell Malouda to get Fabregas I can't see him rising. Plus he is owned by 43% of the FPL managers.

If you have Drogba then yes, but Bosingwa isn't a sure starter. A.Cole, I would just leave in there, season keeper for me. Malouda -> Fabs is a 🙂 from me, and is up to you whether to do or not, many on here will have contrasting opinions on that matter. A.Cole -> Bosingwa, I wouldn't, Is there some other way you can get the funds?

he may only be out for a game, the reason for so many Tevez OUT sentiments is because (a) his recent public discontent with City/Mancini's style of play and his alleged homesickness and (b) because although frightfully consistent, he and City rarely seem to explode points wise, so people are looking for the bigger/better option.

Personally, I am happy to leave him in my team as I have funds to do Malouda OUT Fabregas IN, if I didn't, I would be looking at either Drogba OUT or Tevez OUT (Drogba is only worth 13.1 to me as I had him out on WC 2 weeks ago) and I would be leaning towards Drogba with fixtures

I am not Johhny U, but Malouda is consistent against the not so good teams (Points wise) but Like any player, isn't 100% consistent against the better teams.

Yep, Wenger would be stupid to drop him based on current form, his gametime may be limited to around 70-80 mins if they are winning though.

          Fabregas IMO. See Captain Poll.

Hey Goose. At the moment I am doing crazy 8 point hit and bringing Fabregas, Berbatov and Simpson for VDV, Tevez and Enrique.

Fabregas and Berb have two games at home. Berba against his former club and than against Wolves. I do not have to discuss about Fabregas. VDV has 2 games away and crucial CL game in between so he could be rested even. I can not make me selling Malouda cause he is 3m cheaper than Drogs and has same points. Even if we had Malouda captain all the time instead of the Drogs we would gain more points. The overall leader is also Drgoba less.

Goose at the moment I really do not know. The mind says Malouda out - Fabs in (I have the cash), but the heart says go wild and make some hits. I am waiting news on Tevez Still. CU Thursday/Friday we'll know than.

Excellent argument, it's Tevez or Malouda for me and I have the same reservations as u about getting rid of Malouda, I'm winning my mini leagues and all my rivals have Malouda only a couple have Tevez (as of now) so I suppose I should play safe and losing Tevez is the safest option and would mean bringing in probably Elmander or Odem which I dont think either are bad replacements whereas if malouda went it would probably be a cheap and nasty 2 point midfielder, I think I no Tevez must go but it's so difficult!

Is getting A Cole by doing those transfers a good i idea
as he seems to be a bonus point magnet with no rotation risk
to afford him i need to do
    Nani>brunt
    or Malouda > Brunt
    shawcross >Cole
    or
what tempts me is the fact that he has scored more than a lot of other strikers or midfielders (more than Nani -but malouda is a rotation risk hence i am tempted

*For the record though I believe that Katie is in fact who she appears to be - though it's a bit sad to be leering over the first lass that appears on the site, you wouldn't do that in your everyday lives...well some of youse might 😉 What I'm trying to say is it makes no odds, we are all FPL nerds here.

well I know that, one day, Katie and I are gonna get married on top of a mountain. And there's going to be flutes playing and trombones and flowers and garlands of fresh herbs. And we will dance till the sun rises. And then our children will form a family band. And we will tour the countryside, and you won't be invited!"

Yeah, I mean flirting is pretty harmless, providing Katie isn't offended, and whoever Katie is seems like a genuinely nice person.

However, sleazing away at someone on the internet just because they say they're female is pathetic whether Katie minds or not IMO.

I said this yesterday re: Arsenal defenders/goalies, they really aren't a reliable source of clean sheets even tho people think they are, take last week when u probably wouldn't have expected a clean sheet then and would have maybe dropped your keeper, then look at Blackpool and WBA for example, u would play him then but they didn't keep a cleanie, to get round this u would have to play him every week, but would u really want to? I would avoid Arsenal defenders /goalies IMO.

Worst case scenario Tevez misses 1 game. Too short sighted and not worth using transfers and losing value to get rid of him.

I'd say Gilks is probably the best keeper to purchase for the next 5-6 GWs. Great value and Blackpool have 4 decent clean sheet chances.

I have Foster and Krul but a Foster/Gilks partnership looks much more tempting.

Anybody any thoughts on either -

    a) Etherington out and Nasri in
    b) Malouda out and Fabs in

Iam gonna captain whoever I bring in, I can't decide which to do, I dont want to lose malouda and Nasri is shit hot at the minute but fabs could turn it on with a massive haul over the next two home games!!

Am I being a bit odd playing Robinson (CHE home) instead of Carson (Blkp away) this week? My thinking being neither will keep a clean sheet so it comes down to saves. Don't expect Chelsea to score too many and the BP judges seem to have taken a shining to Robinson.

Go robinson, he usually pulls points from saves and there should be plently of opportunities for saves against the chelsea

      robbo is a good call.
we usually keep it fairly tight at home, robbo is in good form, and samba/nelsen should be back.

blackpool are very attacking, i can see west brom conceding.
