With such a proliferation of midfield talent, a strong five across the middle will leave many Fantasy Managers with one striker benched for the majority of the season. It makes perfect sense to explore a budget option for this third striker then, but at the same time, this option needs to be one that can at least contribute points when called upon.

The Blackpool pairing of DJ Campbell and Luke Varney are that rare commodity – bargain basement strikers that appear to offer regular starts and the promise of Fantasy returns that more than justify the outlay. Currently priced at just 4.5 and 4.6 in the Fantasy Premier League game, they offer the perfect solution for those Fantasy Managers looking to balance the books to help crowbar Cesc Fabregas back into their lineups.

Varney certainly has the statistical edge on his team mate. The former Charlton striker has returned 2 goals and 4 assists so far this term and his Opta stats appear to show greater potential in both areas. Despite those numbers, Campbell seems to offer the greater security when it comes to a starting role and pitch time. The diminutive striker has started every game since his arrival from Leicester and has completed the 90 minutes in each of them. Varney, in contrast, was on the bench against Blackburn and was subbed against both Newcastle, Chelsea and again this weekend at Birmingham.

You get the feeling that Ian Holloway is a massive fan of Campbell and has faith in him to produce. In my view, barring injury, Campbell will play regardless of form, while Varney has competition for his starting role from Marlon Harewood and Brett Ormerod. There’s no doubting that Campbell’s form is a concern, no goal in his last five starts, has kept him under the radar, but the striker is performing well enough and Holloway is keeping the faith. Only today, reports include quotes from the player himself bemoaning his lack of goals but promising an improvement…

“I feel there is a good run coming on and a few goals on the way, so I just have to keep getting in the right places and fingers crossed it will happen.”

Regardless of your weapon of choice, this is a good time to consider the Blackpool pair. The return of Fabregas as an option in midfield will have bloated the midfield budget and while cheap defensive options are always available, the shift to 3-5-2 as the preferred FPL formation, surely creates a need for a budget option up front. This is compounded by the fact that both Varney and Campbell actually offer potential as Fantasy starters over the mid-term.

Ian Holloway’s side have a very decent run of opponents to come (WBA EVE avl whm WOL bol ) all of which appear to offer the potential of attacking returns. If you can’t find a place for Charlie Adam in your lineup, then one of Campbell or Varney offer the opportunity to capture those returns.

They are also major differentials of course – neither top 2% ownership right now, with Campbell registering a paltry 0.3%. That appears to make them good options to help with the “route to recruit” for Cesc Fabregas, with the promise of some cheeky cheap returns to come over the next month.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Your plan for GW12 is good, but I wouldn't triple up on three attacking players from one team. One of them is very likely to only get 2 points. I don't see more than 2 United goals against TOT. May get Chamakh for Berbatov or Elmander for Hernandez

once Fabregas picks us his form (this week or next) nasris output will lower as it alwaqys does. Think its a little overkill having both espiecally with walcott looking like he is in good form.

Also berbs and hernandez abit united overkill? I see your thinking with united 2 home games but tott wont be a walk over

        thanks guys.

i see the carroll over hernandez to save a 4pt hit gwk 12 is a good idea

i have a feeling about berb against his old team and then spurs so def keeping him

i could go for arteta or cahill instead of nasri for these 2 weeks?

        what do u think?

Id only go for arteta over Nasri but we dont know the extent of his injury unfortunatly.

I guess its down to whether you think fabs will kill it next game or not. I think he will!

Id swap either berbs/ hernadez and I would lean towards picking hernadez if i had the choice as berba seems to have reverted back to supplying goals for the top man when hernadez has been in the team.

i had taken an 8 point hit as didnt want hanhamann anymore and had to downgrade fig to simpson to get fabs in. tevez out was final straw, didnt want to take another 4pt hit. plus ive been sliding down the rankings for a while now so had to do something

i may regret it later but didnt feel confident about the next 2 weeks as it stood

fair dues, its a slippery slope when you start taking the points hits isnt it!

I have a deliberation myself (WC used afew weeks back). If fabs comes in this week then its a 4 pointer and also downgrading either berbs or Oshea. I am leaning towards downgrading oshea (any ideas why he was subbed last week?) to simpson, otherwise it would be berba down to elmander/ carrol. Leaning towards the former at the moment but then I am doubling up on newcasle defence with Krul.

Or suck it up and no transfer this week seems I have strength in depth?!

id bring fabs in for a 4 pointer.

carroll has arsenal away next week so id wait until gwk12 for him

would u lose a lot of value downgrading VDV? could look to get him back gwk 12 when u do berb to carroll then?

I asked this earlier but thought id annoy you afternooners with it

I would normally never consider a 12 point hit but could this pay off. I already took a hit to get Cesc in earlier this week. Heres my current team:

    Hart
    Dann Faye El-Becks Jara Perch
    Malouda Nani Cesc N’zog Ferguson
    Drogba Tevez Carroll

Is it worth taking a further 8 point hit to do Tevez – Hernandez and Ferguson – Nasri. That will be a 12 point hit this week. Or should i do Tevez – Chamakh making it an 8 point hit this week. Or leave it and play…ferguson?

despite potentially reduced game time...Chamakh appears to be the most likely to net a return over the next 3 gws (WH, NEW, WOLV) - great run of fixtures in a team that creates lots of chances.

Hi all, need a bit of advice
I wc this week and currently have

    Fab nasri nani vnv brunt
    drog tevez carroll

obviously i am looing to rid Tevez, but who? I don't have to get cheap cheap forward since i already got fabregas for malouda. Currently I am thinking Berbatov since Chamakh's minutes will suffer with bendtner and walcott back.

Also double up on fab and nasri or change nasri to arteta? Nasri has been hot form, but i feel he could lose minutes to walcott and bendtner.

    any comments appreciated, thanks

Sounds like a similar problem I'm having with Nasri/Arteta. In fact our front 8 are fairly similar bar Brunt/Adam and Tevez/Berbs. In your situation I'd say go with Berbatov. Two home games coming up or Hernandez if you want to take a punt.

      Similar problem with dropping Tevez.
Plenty of money and Berbatov is the only one I consider. But he is on 72% towards a drop in price and getting negative NTI.
If he does nothing against Tottenham, he'll surely drop in price. So getting Tevez back becomes even more expensive.

This year is tougher than usual! I can't really pick a winner out of the obvious favourites.

I think David Villa would be in my top3 anyway.

Messi, Villa, Robben and Sneijder are my top3.

What? Yes I know, but I can't decide which one to chop.

I'm thinking of Tevez>Campbell, which will allow me to bring Fabs in as well as Malouda.

Although, seeing as I already have Adam in midfield, perhaps a better move to get Carroll instead?

Arteta has been nursing the hamstring problem for some time, with the affliction almost keeping him out of the Merseyside derby before he had to miss out at White Hart Lane.

Manager David Moyes revealed after the game that Arteta was on course to return to the side this weekend.

"I am trying my best to get fit for Saturday," Arteta revealed, before lending even more praise to set-piece co-conspirator Baines.

Looking at Chamakh's stats, I am not entirely convinced that he can score big in the next 3, with the talent in Arsenal's midfield, Chamakh can simply be the "bring it down on the chest and lay it off" kindof player for Nasri/Walcott/Arshavin/Fabregas whoever plays. yes he has nice fixtures, but having watched the guy a handful of times, I am still not convinced enough to replace the badly burned Argentinian boy

Do Utd even have 5 fit midfielders?! Park played a full game in midweek so I can't imagine that he is in Fergie's plans for the weekend. And Utd were perfectly happy playing 4-4-2 against Liverpool, so I can't imagine them doing anything different against the Spuds.

        VDS
        Rafael Ferdinand Vidic Evra
        Nani Scholes Fletcher Anderson
        Berbatov Hernandez

        Is my best guess.
