Reports in Thursday’s press have confirmed that Carlos Tevez is out of the weekend trip to Wolves. The striker has been granted permission to return to Argentina to undergo a programme of rehabilitation ahead of the crucial derby clash with United in Gameweek 12, as fears mount concerning the injury sustained against Arsenal on Sunday.

Tevez was always a doubt for the weekend with a muscle injury sustained in the 3-0 defeat to Arsenal. It is now reported that the injury, initially thought to be a dead leg, could be a more serious setback. A report in the Daily Mail suggests that scans have revealed “severe swelling and internal bleeding around Tevez’s knee and thigh”. The report goes on to claim that the players has been told he will not be able to play for “about two weeks”. That would see Tevez miss the Gameweek 11 fixture with West Brom and remain a doubt for the United game as a result. As yet there is no confirmation of this from official City sources.

The striker’s return to Argentina comes following recent claims, including those of team-mate Roque Santa Cruz, which have stated that Tevez is homesick. It is thought that, in the light of the injury, City have taken steps to quell this issue by allowing the striker to spend time with his family whilst he manages his own return to fitness.

The news will come as a major blow to Tevez owners who have dramatically increased in numbers in recent weeks. Tevez topped the goalscoring charts going into Gameweek 9 and had seen over 200,000 new owners heading into the Arsenal fixture, having scored 5 goals in his previous 4 league starts.

His owners will now have to consider his prospects over the next two to three Gameweeks in the light of this news. Roberto Mancini will likely turn to Emmanuel Adebayor to lead the attack in the absence of his skipper, while Mario Balotelli is also an option having figured from the bench last weekend. Adebayor could now pick up some short-term Fantasy interest but it seems more likely that United’s pairing of Dimitar Berbatov and Javier Hernandez will see a greater proportion of Tevez funds come their way. Hernandez’ run in the United lineup could well come to an end with Wayne Rooney’s expected return in a fortnight, which may coincide with a return to fitness for Tevez.

The other option than Tevez owners will now be considering is a move towards a cheaper alternative up front which would free up cash to recruit Cesc Fabregas in time for Arsenal’s Emirates clash with West Ham. We can certainly expect to see some major movement in the Fantasy markets in the next 48 hours and I suspect we will see points being spent by those who have already fluttered their Fantasy Premier League wildcards.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Oh I assumed United game was GW after this one
    So Tevez is definitely out for Wolves and WBA? He's gotta go then
    It's a shame cause those are nice fixtures

      Yeah, I'm tempted to get him out for Chamakh.

      It would involve a 4pt hit tho...

        Considering the same move
        Also for a 4 pt hit but it'll surely be worth it
        He looks like the best forward replacement...Arsenal also have decent fixtures for awhile and I bet Chamakh will flourish with Fabregas in the mix

              Seems strange that I took some heat for getting Fab into my team and selling Cham.

              One is an FPL goldmine, and the other is a massive rotation risk.

    Finally, I'm able to make my decision after days pondering who to sacrifice in order to bring in Fab. So now I can bring in Fab for Gerrard, and Tevez out for Torres 4 pts hit.

    any thoughts on who to play now?

    A.cole, jagielka, elmo, clichy, williamson.
    malouda, nasri, adam, ferguson, barton.
    Drogba, Doyle, Tevez.

    do i play elmo or the newcastle boys?!

    wow i am royally screwed
    already took -8 this week for Faye->coleman, dempsey->adam, malouda->fabs

    team atm:

    Krul (Foster)
    ACole Coleman Konchesky (Jara Perch)
    Fabs Etherington VDV Adam Nani
    Drogba Carroll (Tevez)

    Now with Tevez out for 2 weeks, he will surely drop in price so it wont be too expensive to buy back again.. I don't fancy Etherington this week away to Everton..

    Berbatov has Spurs at home and Wolves after that.. he could make up the -4 over 2 weeks easy? any other choices?

    Who's the best replacement options?

        I try to look at the hits individually

        Faye ->coleman (for free) good everton fixs, OOP
        Dempsey -> Adam good home game against West Brom,
        Mal -> Fabs , captain

        I think Berbatov could score well next 2 game weeks, if I don't sell Tevez this week I will have to play Etherington this week (vs Everton) and Carroll the week after (vs Arsenal)

        Thanks guys... I guess I'll keep an eye on the Tevez-Berba dynamic, as this seems to be the only trade I can do, that I can reverse when Tevez comes back...

        Or even make it a little more complicated by doing Drogba=>Tevez at that time with that money to be used for a MD, but that's way too far for me to think about...

      Have you considered how you'll bring Tevez back to your team when he comes back? Or is that too far to consider...

      Please advice because it might help me not see this in the short term, as I could take a chance on Elmander, and use the money to upgrade my MD...

    Kia ora koutou,

    Who would you swap Fabs in for in my midpark:

    Adam Malouda VDV Malouda Nasri ?

    Adam will not free up enough cash.
    VDV is a pts machine.
    So too Malouda.
    Nani is on fire-ish.
    That leaves Nasri and my own preference.

    My front 3 (Berba, Drog and Elmander) would need to be downgraded to a 5 mill (Carroll, Oddwod, Varney, Dembele?) but I have 2 free transfers this week.

    What do you reckon? Thanks! 🙂

              So do I 😛

              Maybe Balotelli if he starts hitting form. Don't want to kneejerk though, because getting Tevez back will be tough if I lose the 0.2. My entire squad is balanced on a knife edge in terms of value. There aren't any players I would really like to lower, and if there are, they can't go any lower!

                I have a similar dilemma as you, my team atm is

                Krul (Foster)
                ACole Coleman Konchesky (Jara Perch)
                Fabs Etherington VDV Adam Nani
                Drogba Carroll (Tevez)

                already took -8 this week for Faye->coleman, dempsey->adam, malouda->fabs

                Now my dilemma is, if I bench Tevez for 2 weeks, I'd have to play Etherington away to Stoke this week, and Carroll away to Arsenal in week 11.. not too shabby but Berbatov has great fixtures for the short term and I'm not sure Tevez will be back for the derby

                What price did you get Tevez at? I got him at 10.4 (sell value 10.7), he will probably drop at least 0.2, so you can buy him back at 10.8? Berbatov for next 3-4 weeks is a tempting option but he hasnt scored since his hattrick

                  I've had Drogba, Tevez, Carroll from the start.

                  So I bought Tevez at 10.5.

                  I can see him drop 0.1 and still have a sell on fee of 10.7, so I have more time than you do to make a decision. The thing I don't like is that it will be tough to get him back in. I can't lower any more on Emerton, and my defense apart from Cole is budgeted very tightly. Coleman's inevitable dropping might open a spot, but I'm hoping it doesn't happen for at least a month.

        Thanks boyz - all I know is that the Fabmeister is a coming in.

        No one suggested Nasri but that's a hard one. My thinking is that perhaps Fabs will take his points and two from the same team is not ideal.

        Fran's prophecy of the need to focus on midfield this year is quite true at this point.

    Tevez's injury messes me up quite badly. I've already taken a 4 point hit this GW, so I guess I'm riding this storm out.

    Direct replacement gambles this week are hard to spot, and I have 0.1 leeway on Tevez, so I guess it won't hurt to wait until next week and play Alcaraz against Fulham. Hopefully one of Adebayor and Balotelli starts hammering them in, and will give me an easy decision.

    Worth a gamble on Balotelli or Adebayor for a 4 point hit this week?

      Absolutely not worth the gamble right now, Camzy.

      You are already 4 points down, so just bench Tevez for this week until more news comes out.

      If he is not going to be playing for 2-3 weeks then sell him for someone else.

    Too true, Syd.

    That's why I transferred Cham to Odem and Brunt to Fabs.

    Those were difficult decisions, since Odem probably won't play, but I'm benching him this week so no matter.

    He rotates quite well with Carroll, so will swap them as appropriate.

    This makes my plan more concrete.
    This week
    Tevez => Odem
    Erthington => Fabregas
    Next week
    Gerrard => Nani/Arteta
    Berbatov => Drogba

    Team now is

    Foster Carson
    Dann Konchesky Richards Alex Elmo
    Gerrard Malouda Erthington Nzogbia VDV
    Tevez Berbatov Caroll
    2mil in bank
    Am i making the right call?

      Personally, I don't like anyone selling Etherington as I think he's tremendous value for money and will score big points again. I'd keep him, myself.

      Like you I have Tevez.

      This news of his injury and the potential for an already allegedly disgruntled Tevez going AWOL in Argentina like he did last year is enough to justify me getting him out to clear enough funds to buy Fabs without touching Malouda.

      I would do Gerrard to Fabs right now, as that pretty much doesn't change your budget and gives you a significant upgrade at that position. Then get Drogs in for Carlito if you have enough left over (you may fall a tad short, I don't know).

      Otherwise just make the one change this week, play 5 in MF and 2 up front and then change your other 2 strikers next week in a way so that you can get Drogs in?

        Yah, i was thinking tevez is gonna be a cheaper Drogba but guess his injury gonna change things.

        I m not really sold on erthington as pennant has started to eat into his setpiece. Thus from what i see i want to have a midfield of Nani Malouda Nzogbia Fabregas VDV ( play all the time ) and Drogba Caroll Odem ( rotate caroll n odem )

        Looks good huh =)

    Just read this about Tevez and it solves my problem.

    I can put `Lil Pea' in there now and that gives me enough to keep Malouda and ship Bale out for Fabs.

    I may go with Elmander instead but, either way, Malouda can stay a bit longer now (will prob downgrade him to Essien later on, but thats for another day).

    We keep saying it, but this is why it pays to wait till the end part of the week before you make your transfers!!

      That's nearly a good call, Nomar.

      But why "Lil Pea"? He will be good for the next week or two but when Wazza's back then he's a massive rotation risk.

      So that's a transfer you really don't need to make.

      I'd stay away from Citeh other than GK, DEF and Tevez to be honest with you.

      Hernandez is a very good short term option in my opinion and he's in form. Adebayor has not shown much in their system albeit that was with Tevez in it.

      If anything, I'd imagine this will open things up for Silva now and I can see him scoring big this weekend against an awful Wolves defence. Katie will be doing cartwheels this weekend as she has Silva.

          Yes, but I dont have enough for Bent and Bale to Fabregas.

          I consider Bale the more urgent need to replace in my case and, since doing so would allow me to keep Malouda, I figure that maybe a punt on someone like Chicarito for the next few weeks may prove a profitable exercise.

          I'd certainly consider Bent afterwards and would also look at Essien as a replacement for Malouda if I need to garner more funds to get Tevez back later.

          If you can afford Bent nd you already have Fabs then most certainly d it, sir, and you have my blessing!! 😀

      I wont go for Bent. SUN good for CS this year, not goals(Bent hattrick this week?)

      Problem with tevez is we know he wont play the next 2 and then he has Manu in the derby which could also mean a 2pts. Pity Everton/villa strikers are so K8k, as they have decent fixtures in next 4.

      I envy your midfield! Good luck with the decision.
