Apologies for the tardiness in getting Paddy’s odds to you this week. While they now hold little bearing on our Fantasy selections for the coming Gameweek, they make a decent distraction while we contemplate decisions made. Whether they leave you smiling smugly at your chosen strategies, or leave you wringing your hands in worry, is another matter entirely.

Let’s see how Paddy views the Gameweek prospects and what they have up their sleeves when it comes to the Scout and Money Back Specials…

Who Will Keep a Clean Sheet?

  • Arsenal 1.72 (WHM)
  • Everton 2.00 (STK)
  • Chelsea 2.00 (bla)
  • Aston Villa 2.25 (BIR)
  • Man City 2.25 (wol)
  • Fulham 2.25 (WIG)
  • Man United 2.50 (TOT)
  • Liverpool 2.75 (bol)
  • Newcastle 2.80 (SUN)

Arsenal’s encounter with West Ham is, not surprisingly the fixture that has the biggest impact on Paddy’s odds this weekend. The Hammers aren’t expected to trouble Fabianski in goal and subsequently Paddy is backing Wenger’s side pretty heavily for a shut-out at the Emriates.

David Moyes’ Everton, so improved defensively of late, are rated as second favourites, with Chelsea tied for that position, despite the tricky prospect facing them at Ewood. Owners of Coleman, Baines and Ashley Cole will welcome that view.

Interestingly Villa come in next, despite what is expected to be a fiery local derby at Villa Park. With just one goal conceded in four games at home this term, Paddy’s thinking looks sound here and I’ve backed that with Brad Friedel’s selection in the Picks.

City are tied with Villa and have a strong chance of a cleanie at shot-shy Wolves but, as mentioned in last night’s Scout Picks, I just fancy Wolves to nick a goal given the form they’ve shown over the past two matches. I chose to back Newcastle over City, United and Liverpool – all better placed by Paddy here – when it came to my Picks. I just see Newcastle running out 1-0 winners in Sunday’s game.

Anytime Goalscorer

  • Chamakh 1.66 (WHM)
  • Drogba 1.72 (bla)
  • Bendtner 1.90 (WHM)
  • Berbatov 1.90 (TOT)
  • Arshavin 2.00 (WHM)
  • Fabregas 2.10 (WHM)
  • Torres 2.10 (bol)
  • Hernandez 2.10 (TOT)
  • Anelka 2.25 (bla)
  • Saha 2.37 (STK)
  • Yakubu 2.37 (STK)
  • Adebayor 2.37 (wlv)
  • Malouda 2.40 (bla)
  • Walcott 2.40 (WHM)
  • Carroll 2.70 (SUN)
  • Odemwingie 2.70 (blp)
  • Cahill 2.75 (STK)
  • Nasri 2.80 (WHM)
  • Kamara 2.80 (WIG)
  • Dembele 2.80 (WIG)
  • Carew 2.80 (BIR)
  • Agbonlahor 2.80 (BIR)
  • Nani 2.87 (TOT)
  • Campbell 2.87 (WBA)
  • Varney 2.87 (WBA)
  • Balotelli 3.00 (wlv)

An extensive list of possible goalscorers, with Arsenal’s various attacking threats dominating. Paddy envisages that the Gunners will be queuing up to notch against the Hammers and Chamakh leads the way for the first time this season, ahead of the likes of Drogba and Berbatov who are strongly fancied as always.

It’s interesting that will all the Fantasy talk on Cesc Fabregas, he is given the same odds as Fernando Torres and Javier Hernandez to score this weekend. Samir Nasri meanwhile, is viewed less favourably, with Florent Malouda, Tim Cahill and Andy Carroll all rated as more likely to register a goal over the Gameweek. Indeed, Fulham’s Mousa Dembele, on the bench in last night’s Picks, is just as fancied to register a goal as Arsenal’s Nasri.

Paddy’s Scout Specials

This week’s Paddy specials offer odds of 17/2 in the Clean Sheet Accumulator on Arsenal, Newcastle and Everton to all keep shutouts this weekend. Over in the Scout Picks special meanwhile you can get 10/1 on Fabregas, Dembele and Drogba all being amongst the goals in their respective matches.

Paddy’s Money Back Special

The “Money Back” offer this week finds us over at Old Trafford where Paddy will be refunding all lost first/last goalscorer, correct score and scorecast single bets on the match if Rafael Van der Vaart scores the last goal of the game.

Bet £10 Get £20

If you’re new to this betting lark and new to Paddy Power then you can take up any of these odds and offers and get yourself a bonus. You can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register and bet a tenner.

Finally of course, we should state that all these offers are only available to those aged 18 and over and are subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Nah.. They match your first bet up to 25 pounds. But that bet - and the free bet you are then given - both have to have odds above evens. And then if you win your free bet, you only take the profit, not the original stake too.

So, if with your first bet (which is what it has to be), you bet £20 on something at 3/1, then they give you £20 to place on something else, at odds above 2/1.

Gerrard on the left brings back horrible memories of the World Cup. 😉

The only way Gerrard would get into a best XI is in the middle of midfield, and unfortunately there are plenty of better players in that position in the league.

If we're still in the best PL XI debate I have to say that I don't rate Malouda as highly as others either, but I can't find anyone better in his place so he has to be in the team.

I just feel that sometimes he takes more away from Chelsea's play than he adds to it. Left midfield is a weakish spot in that XI.

In the PL XI I meant, not in the Chelsea XI.

Hehe yeah Malouda had an easy ride because his competition was Joe Cole, David Silva and Steed Malbranque

What about Bale? I rate Malouda extremely highly (seemingly much more than you) but Bale isn't that far behind IMO.

Why don't you rate Malouda then? He's absolutely excellent.

Bale might edge him out in the next season, I just want to see him keeping it up for some more time before I give him the nod.

I think Malouda has an excellent sense of where the goal is and can pick out a pass very well, but often I feel that he can't beat his man and takes too much time on the ball compared to other Chelsea players and therefore slows the team down.

I mean a good goal scorer is always good in any side, but apart from that I feel he offers less to Chelsea than basically any other player in their starting XI.

Well he is very slow on the ball, and all Arsenal players are quick on the ball, I suppose he could adapt but I think that Malouda is a big oppurtunist and finds himself in the right place at the right time... Which is one of his best assets, He is also an instinctive finisher, which is one of my favourite assets of any player. I am not saying he is a bad player by the way.

kind of stupid arguement. think about it. its the old adebayor sit'n. people argued he scored 20+ goals in a season when he played for arsenal. however, his conversion/chances ratio was shit. if you play for a team who are the best in the league and battering other teams it indicates that you are likely to have more scoring opportunities than teams who consistantly defend. as is the case with malouda, playing for chelsea.

f..k me.......read what i said. the goals/chances ratio was an example of adebayor not malouda. it was merely to indicate that a player who plays for a good team is likely to score more as he will get more chances than if he were in a shit team who defend most of the time. therefor adebayors 20+ goals were not a good indication of how good/bad he was whilst playing for arsenal.

Actually Adebayor was absolutely BRILLIANT in that season for Arsenal. He just couldn't stop scoring. Lots of top class beauties as well.

I think it was down to crazy form and luck more than just being in a good side.

Where the hell is all this coming from?

Malouda is an outstanding footballer. He can beat a man, can create space for an overlapping full back i.e. Cole, is strong, quick, excellent at passing and shooting etc.. His link up play is fantastic, as is Anelka.

He's the top scorer in the league FFS, without taking a single set piece. Why are people having a go at him?

I should be getting credit more than anything. 😉 I was saying throughout last season that Malouda is the best winger in the Premiership and was mocked by most. Now he's absolutely tearing it up, and the majority of people would agree with him being the best winger in the league.

I don't understand why people go out of their way to disregard Malouda's improvement. It's like the Chelsea fans who go to home games and start booing him.

Ok, who have you has Chelsea had on the left that was decent in the last few seasons? Who do they have in an attacking midfield role who is better than him? Even before the italian took over Malouda was working wonders for the portuguese by "doing the dirty work".

He's a class act and a team player, yea he can vanish during a game or two but who doesn't...Drogba did last weekend.

I was just about to write a post on how much I rate Anelka. He brings so much to Chelsea and basically every other team he's been in.

He's quick with the ball, has good vision, links up plays well. He is now mature and knows it benefits the side more if he is not the main finisher, but when asked to play centre forward he also performs brilliantly there.

And he's done it for over a decade now. He's completely forgotten when talking about the greats but he's been one of the best strikers around over such a long period. It's impressive.

Those stats aren't exactly relevant, when we are the highest scoring team in the league, and Anelka is a massive part of it.

Given how you think Malouda is excellent and that Anelka is terrible, I take it that you don't watch much football, and prefer to just look at the stats.

Never said Anelka is terrible, or that I don't rate him. He hasn't produced the way he's suppose to this season, maybe if he was in the center forward position he'd be statically better, but link up play doesn't change the fact that he's played poorly all season.

He had a hard worldcup, but he retired from France and should be playing better than he is now. Not the same ANelka from last season, and a shadow of the man from two years ago.

Even when he wasn't playing particularly well, like when he first joined, we always played much better with him in the side.

Whenever we've been at our best in the past few seasons, it's mainly been due to the excellence of Malouda more than anything else. i.e. under Hiddink and ever since we moved away from the diamond formation under Carlo.

Guy top my mini-league has Fab, but captained Drog. Peculiar.I look on the hits that I've taken to bring Fabs in as a loan that will pay itself off quickly. Makes me feel better about it. Works for me! Just have to wait 2 hours now to watch it all fall apart!

Everyone seem to think nasri will score big today, in my mini league everyone has captained but i just see fabregas taking the influence away from nasri.

I have a feeling Fabs will be doing the assisting today... Nasri & Cham (unfortunately) knocking them in.

This is not really realistic but wouldn't it be great fun if UEFA arranged a quick fire tournament where each of the major leagues in Europe sent their strongest team and they faced off? In a summer where there were no international tournament or something.

I think the players would want to prove they play in the best league and perform well. La Liga would probably(?) be the favourites to win, but the other teams would be great fun to watch as well.

So I'm the only one in my mini league with Fabs captain and my two main rivals have gone for Anelka & Malouda (c). This could be one immense week for me if all goes to plan!
