It’s time for Monday Night Football to bedazzle our television screens once more as we look forward to Blackpool hosting West Brom. Not many people would have expected that sentiment even at the beginning of the season, but this has the making of a great game, and if the past is any indication we’ll be in for a hum dinger of a game as the two respective fixtures last season saw 10 goals in total.

Nil-nil is clearly on the cards then now that’s jinxed, and the team news let’s us know that Charlie Adam has recovered from his stitched up ankle to pass muster for Blackpool while Elliot Grandin comes in for Marlon Harewood. On the back of his two goal haul at Leicester (damn him), Simon Cox comes in with Pablo Ibanez for the injured duo of James Morrison and Jonas Olsson for the traveling West Brom. Peter Odemwingie is nowhere to be seen, still…

Blackpool XI: Gilks; Eardley, Evatt, Cathcart, Crainey; Vaughan, Adam, Grandin; Taylor-Fletcher, Varney, Campbell

West Brom XI: Carson; Jara, Tamas, Ibanez, Shorey; Scharner, Mulumbu; Brunt, Cox, Thomas; Fortuné

If you’re looking for some matchday banter then join our floodlight Dugout Discussion as West Brom look to break into the Champions League places (not a typo) and Blackpool look for their first home victory of the season.

"Lies, damned lies, and statistics" Benjamin Disraeli)... is a phrase describing the persuasive power of numbers, particularly the use of statistics to bolster weak arguments, and the tendency of people to disparage statistics that do not support their positions. It is also sometimes colloquially used to doubt statistics used to prove an opponent's point.

Let's be clear, our opponents here, are the monkeys in the towers. In the many years ive been under the yoke of fantasy football, i have come to realise there are a few inalienable truths, and this is one of them. They put a game in front of us, that when taken at face value is fantastic. Unfortunately though, it isn't. It is a flawed system as they are underfunded, and in general, not a smart bunch of people. THere's some f**ker making alot of money out of that game somewhere along the line from the Premierleague through to us, and running the ship with a skeleton crew.

This leads me to my point on the bonii, and what they mean to us. Ive had arteta pretty much form the start when fit. Why? Because i know, form experience, he gets bonus, and thats based on statistics. What we see as a great/shite performance by a player, doesnt (obviously) transform into bonus, mainly because we are dealing with numbers here. Ie, lies, when it comes to football. Theres a balance to be found here, between players constantly on the ball, and players that will score concrete points. There IS NO bonus panel, so unless one is instated, we'll keep getting stupid bonus points like CHarlie Adam's tonight.

THe sad thing is, (*and this is like admitting defeat), there's sweet fcuk all we can do about it. The only answer is to start our own website, but licenseing issues and all that shite will make that pretty damn difficult.

I suppose ill conclude with what i hope will happen; we all need to accept that the BP are a sham, along with the form/value CRAP that is the backup captain (again, they're lazy fcuks that wont add another feature to the game that makes perfect sense-even the losers would rather choose their back up than have it semi-random), AND, email them, and hope for some result there, OR, we need to collectively work out a way of starting a new fantasy football site. I'd sure like to know how to do that though. I'm fu*king sick to my teeth of the bonus points, and thats the truth, and i know everyone in the top 400k is pretty much the same. Thats a big market, and the big selling point? THe new fantasy football- WE DONT USE DARTBOARDS.

This seems totally random to me, maybe there would be some grounds to complain if you actually paid for a service? You take part free of charge in a game they set up to raise interest in the league. You really shouldnt have much to complain about, you are either in or out.

I agree, bonuses awarded arent that logical most of the time (though I found it refreshingly rational after the utter, complete joke that was the official world cup game) and they seem to coincide very much with the in players at the moment.

But there are alternative fantasy games if it is too much and you could just decide in your breakaway league that you dont count the bonuspoints. You can play this game without the man making it untolerable for you.

Fabregas was selected sky man of the match last week, and when presented with the honour responded with a bemused "how am I the man of the match? I missed a penalty."

Have to add this about the bonuspoints: I absolutely think that the bonuses are heavily influenced by who the the bonus guy/his best friends happen to have in their teams. I have learned to accept them as largely random.

Hey RBJ. I've read your post carefully, and I have a couple of points to make.
I agree that we all have to accept that the FPL bonus point allocations are a sham.
I agree that there is little or nothing we can do about it, apart from moaning about it/ setting up a revolutionary new fantasy site/ ringing Joe Duffy.
I agree there should be a vice captain rule.
I agree that Adam should not have got 2 BPs.

However, to use a stale cliche, "these things even out over the season". You basically pick a player hoping he will score a goal/ assist/ not concede. The BPs are random and we all accept that. It's the same for all of us. Our opponents are not the "monkeys in the towers" as you describe them....but each other. We are competing against each other. No one else.
Finally, you always love to tell people how losing 0.1 value is ONE THOUSANth of their budget....yet losing 2 BPs to Charlie Adam for people (who don't have him) is like losing only FOUR ONE THOUSANths of their overall score (if you have a score of 500 atm).
I enjoy your posts as always, keep them coming!

cyki was pretty awesome (what i played last year), but they're not longer running 🙁 no bps, or bench, just a starting 11 and two free transfers a week. i'll admit it's a little easier, but at least we didn't have to deal w/the random bps committee/subjectivity.

Er, no. WBA and Blackpool have both been fantastic this season, I was anticipating a high-scoring end-to-end game. Unlike you, I enjoy the game of football although it isn't Man Utd vs Chelsea.

What we should think about is bringing back the comedy style Fantasy Football show for youtube - get the podcasts visual for mucho gags and craic, gotta be funnier people than Frank Skinner and Baddiel are now. 🙂

My point total is not that good but I won my Head 2 Head games and beating a few here from those leagues. I got mashed by Mark in the Scout Picks but still happy that games are coming up thick and fast. And the bonus points will even itself out by season end. Don't worry just be happy you are alive unlike others........ Double gameweek fixtures coming up soon this weekend and in mid week so everyone prepare for those and enter the code above and don't be a square but a forward pointing triangle.

Nah as far as the dictionary of FPL goes (and I wrote it):
          Double Gameweek -
A single gameweek in which one or more teams play twice.

Please explain for all us beginners. A double gameweek = teams having 2 games in a GW. 2 GWs in one week isn't a double gameweek. It's just 2 GWs where the break between them is alot shorter.

This weekend and the following week-days. Then the following GW. Two gameweeks in one week. But no double team games yet in one clear GW. All this means is that we need to play ahead and select players to suit this weekend and mid week fixtures. Maybe we might know some of the team sheets before the games kick off on Tuesday? Will be a very busy week indeed and removes the pain of this gameweek.

Yeah. I'm trusting Fabregas myself. I think Arsenal will be even more focused to get an early goal this week since they almost didn't win against WH.

Looks like Nani will played in CL too, the guy really needs a rest soon. If not against Bursaspor it will most likely be versus Wolves since they have City the game after.

(Granted with the big question of VDV's fitness this week, I'm thinking of no transfers and I need some help with my starting 11):

    Foster/Jussie
    Samba/Terry/Haageland/Coleman/Konch
    Nani/VDV/Arteta/Adam/Ferguson
    Drogs/Berba/Carrol

I think it's the first week I'm not even sure on a lineup... Thoughts?

      Foster
      Terry Coleman Samba
      Nani VdV Arteta Adam
      Drogba Berba Carrol

Midfield and attack pretty obvious to bench Ferguson imo. I guess defence is a little more tricky. Probably Coleman or Hangeland. Would go with Coleman since he is OOP.

Naturally chose Man City to check out transfer budger (73 mil when I told them I would win the league).

Bid 73m for Fabs. Arsenal want £111m.

I tell the board to sort it out.

    I sign Fabs for 81m.

    Sorted.

I don’t have Drogba and I’m fine with that. [Censored] having the same god damn team as everyone else, ruins the fun.

(Lofl (or anyone) follow up from above):

Would you bench Carrol, to start both Haageland and Coleman?

No. Would almost never play a defender over a midfielder/striker. I think Newcastle will get atleast a goal against Arsenal.

Nikos, i wouldnt take that bit of advice TOOT literally. Playing a defender over a striker or midfielder isnt stupid, its just difficult to choose when is a good time to do it.

aston villa havent been scoring much at all, FUlham are at home and just beat wigan to nil. there's a strong argument for playing hangeland ahead of carroll. You have to look at the amount of ball newcastle will get- whenteher he'll come off early (carroll), also hangeland scores goals sometimes, and gets bonus.#
There are no hard and fast rules, its all about judgement.

personally, i owuld play hangeland if i was you, over carroll. ill be benching carroll.

hope this helps, it completely disagrees with Lofl, but its the truth man,

Yeah the only time I have benched Carrol was first game against Man U... The math is the same if Carrol scores and if the 4th defender gets a CS... I'll definitely sleep on it (for a couple of days)...
