Florent Malouda will sit out Chelsea’s visit to Anfield on Sunday. Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that the ankle injury that kept the French winger out of last night’s 4-1 Champions League win over Spartak, will be enough to see him sidelined for the Gameweek 11 encounter.

The Chelsea boss revealed the news in his post-match comments last night…

“Malouda has a twist on his ankle, not a big problem but he is not able to play against Liverpool, the week after yes.”

From the “week after” it’s not clear whether Ancelotti is indicating that Malouda will be fit to face Fulham at the Bridge on Wednesday 10. Right now, we have to presume that this will be the case, with a second home fixture with Sunderland to follow that game.

Not all bad news for Malouda owners perhaps, given that, realistically, he was set to miss out on one of Chelsea’s three matches over the seven day period starting from Sunday’s game at Anfield. In terms of potential returns, the trip to Liverpool looks to be the best option of the three matches; that is of course, presuming that Malouda will be fit to start against both Fulham and Sunderland.

Salomon Kalou would seem likely to benefit from Malouda’s absence and take up the role of flanking to the left of Didier Drogba on Sunday. Yuri Zhirkov is another option here – particularly if Frank Lampard returns to the midfield. Carlo Ancelotti remains hopeful that this will be the case.

Malouda is 42% owned in the Fantasy Premier League game and, with United’s Nani also set to be sidelined for the Old Trafford clash with Wolves, we now face the situation of having the top two scoring midfielders out of Gameweek 11.

Whether that will see big sales of the pair is another matter entirely. Both have enjoyed significant price rises due to some explosive Gameweek totals. Early adopters of the heavy-hitting pair would need to stomach a substantial loss of funds should they transfer out either player. Right now, with every chance of both players making returns a week from now, it seems that those with a bench strong enough to cover their loss, will sit tight and wait further news – particulary when it comes to Nani’s prognosis.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

God bless Mark's diligence. However, this nasty bit of news means my team for this weekend is looking pretty lame.

    Foster (Harper)
    Jagielka, Cahill, Konchesky, Elmo (Jara)
Fabregas (c), Nasri, N'Zogbia (Malouda, Nani)
    Drogba, Carroll, Dembele

No idea what my one free transfer should be. Konchesky out for someone, I suppose.

No i don't mate. If you want a punt on a Rovers player i'd suggest Samba or one of the Diouf's (MB probably although El Hadj has been our best player this season)

You'd have thought so and there is a chance he might start but he's been a casualty of a change in system. When he was fit last year we played 4-4-1-1 most of the time and Dunny was the focal point of all the attacks. Since he's been out injured Allardyce is playing 4-3-3/4-5-1 with the two Diouf's flanking one front man (usually Kalinic but it's been Benjani lately). Dunny doesn't have the engine to play in CM any more and it's hard to find a place for him in the team. He came on for El Hadj against Chelsea and played on the left hand side.

he played on the left? jeez. i'd have the 4-3-3/4-5-1 with jones and pedersen sitting behind dunn in the 3/5. with the dioufs either side of kalinic

That maybe a possibility against Wigan. In the Chelsea game we played Jones, MGP and Emerton in the middle and they all played well so i'd be surprised to see any of them dropped on Saturday.

that's what's putting me off. read on the blackburn website allardyce wants the same performance but a different result, in my mind meaning he intends to play the same side

Yep that's what i expect to see. On form Pedersen would be the one under threat but he is so essential to the way we play (set pieces and long throws) that i think it's unlikely he'll be dropped. Like i said above, if you're looking for a Rovers attacker i'd suggest M Diouf. He played well against Chelsea and i just fancy him to get a goal or two on Saturday

The great thing about the FPL season so far is that for once its not all about the money and the big players scoring big - more to do with careful/lucky captain choice and picking players coming into form (e.g. brunt etc) - i love it when i beat them 😉

remind me of malouda's 2 scores with lampard in the side this season. and malouda's scores the second half of last season when lampard was playing?

I've had Malouda since week 1, so I could never get him back if I cut him lose. He will still score big even with Lampard back in the side. He effectively plays as a forward.

Exactly. Lampard plays deeper and poses more of a threat to other teams, than say Ramires/Mikel, leaving more space for Malouda...especially with those put backs from Franks long shots.

away from all the injury talk...i'm looking for a short-term <5.8m striker...looking at the fixtures i've narrowed it to piquionne, obinna, jerome and zigic? which 1 would u pick? I'm aware zigic may not be guaranteed starts as is the case with jerome coming back from injury but i do feel that both have more potential than the west ham boys when they play. Bearing that in mind who would u pick? cheers!

Silva is a big rotation risk, and City are one of the most negative teams in the league. They have had the third lowest amount of shots I think? Arteta (bonus point machine), Nasi, VDV, Bale are all better options.

      No.

      Silva isn't a good choice.

He's a rotation risk, isn't on set pieces, and is starved of bonuses in the City team. They are also not scoring many goals. Avoid, he's overrated.

      Go Arteta instead.

    2 simple decisions to make:

Bale or Arteta in for Nani.

    Fabregas or Berbatov captain.

    Bonus decision:

Konchesky (CHE) or Nolan (ars) first sub.

I just think drogba is going to score a couple wiping koncheskys cleansheet. Nolan on the other hand may fluke a goal in my opinion and is on pens if ameobi wan kenobi isnt on the field. Im playing konchesky this gameweek as a side note but im forced to.

Yup, and Nolan has form too.

One of the things that promotes Berbatov in my captaincy thinking is that I've already doubled up on Arsenal with Fabs and Chamakh and I reckon Utd's game is the best bet for a big win this weekend.

Sound logic but you just know Fabregas could rack up 20 points against Newcastle. Plus it wouldn't surprise me at all if Berbatov finished the Wolves game with 2 points!

                Safety first!

What was safety again? Spreading my investment between Man U & Arsenal? Or backing Fabs?!

Still not sure Brunt, Adam, VdV, Milner or Etherington won't do better too.
