[sbu_large_image] The Knee Jerk

You could nearly make a half decent eleven with the players who didn’t play this Gameweek. I was tempted to sit and try and get a team together just to highlight this fact and, well, I could have done it but it got a bit contrived. (Alex Baptiste?)

Needless to say there was a number of high profile absentees which left some gaping holes in players teams and pushed peoples benches to breaking point. Of those missing Nasri, Adam and Alex were irritations but it was the absence of out of position defenders El-Mohammady and Coleman which will have got players worried.

Much is made of the out of position player and to find one is, well, it’s great. To find two therefore is, without wanting to sound lame, absolutely amazing. Many will have both these players as their respective price, attacking potential and ability to keep clean sheets will have made them obvious picks. To have them both out and to etch doubts into our collective minds about their ability to start games going forward is an unwanted distraction. Indeed many have already discussed potentially taking these players out of their teams.

One key thing to consider and remember is the fact that at this time of year, as games come thick and fast, Premier League managers do tend to rotate. This is especially true in situations where games come on Saturday, Wednesday, Saturday. It’s important to take a FFS team deep breath, step back and appreciate the fact that rotation does happen, particularly with players of lower value. This is the knee jerk and the knee jerk reaction is to remove these players. Going forward we don’t know if this is just a rest or if this is a long term issue therefore it’s worth waiting to see what will materialise. For example in Coleman’s case Fellaini’s late red card should lead to a shuffle in the Everton midfield. This could mean Heitinga being called into the centre or a re-call for Coleman.

Elsewhere it was another week of captains under performing. Before the games (and particularly during) people were talking about dropping Drogba, Fabregas and Malouda. Whilst there may be some merit in considering other options such as Torres, who appears to have found his goal scoring form, surely it is only a matter of time before these big hitters begin to find form again. As such my logic follows as above, hold tight. Knee Jerkers (the players, not the articles) tend to act quick, spend points and regret their moves a couple of weeks later. Patience is advised.

Overall though its fair to say these midweek games have been ones to forget. Thankfully we only have to wait two more days until the weekend. Expect more rotation and more headaches going forward. Stay tuned on the site and through our Twitter for updates.

    What do people think of
    Drogs,elmander,malouda TO yevez,torres,6.8M mid. (-4pts)

    Rest of forward line is
    Nani adam fabs nasri
    Carroll

Would be left with only alex as def cover, and .3 more to get drogs back..

U gotta keep the Chelsea players was it not last season they beat them about 7-1 or something, I think this will be Drogbas week. I'd look to get rid of Nasri, too risky now.

    Coleman/A.Cole/O'shea/Konchesky/Jones
    Malouda/Arteta/Bale/Nasri/Adam
    Drogba/Berba/Carroll

    I have 2 free transfers.

I'd hold onto him if I were you, at home to Sunderland, a nice fixture. If he doesn't do the business for me there then I am shipping him out for VDV, cheaper and key figure in an attacking team.

Disaster, dropped from 117k to 332k ranking in jsut 2 Gameweeks.

Any advice from the Guru's on here as to what to do with this team?

    Foster/Krul
    Simpson, Cole, Elmo, Coleman, Jara
    Malouda, Fabs, Nolan, Nani, Adam
    Drogba, Hernandez, Varney

My plan is Hernandez - > KDavies this week and Adam -> VDV next

But given all my watchlist players seemed to have good weeks clearly my final pick judgment is flawed ie Parker, Carroll, Odem, Chamakh, Vidic

Many of us in the same boat Jonty. I'm really happy with my team. They just don't score me any points 🙂

There's really not a lot you can do, as all those mentioned are completely sound. Just not firing.

You could go wholesale changes - WC etc - but I wouldn't know who to get. Would you want a team riddled with the likes of Brunt, Adam, Piquonne, Odemthingy? Not for me I'm afraid,as I think they'll fizzle out and the class will shine through eventually.

Just a case of when!! So I'm sticking with them doggedly.
        Keep the faith! 🙂

i'm having similar prpblems - there's not much wrong with your team, like mine it's fine on paper but for some reason the big value players just aren;t coming up with the goods. with the likes of fabs, drog, malouda, nani you've got the potential for heavy scoring so I think it's a case of holding tight and not knee jerking too much - if drog and mal don;t deliver over the next 2-3 weeks then they're out. I think carrol is essential at present. I'm thinikng maybe torres or possibly rooney when he's back might shake things up a bit

        this is a tough time.
fortunately I have a more immediate concern than my big players not firing which is a lack of defence.
Jara)suspended) Elmo (rotation risk and poor fixtures) Alex(seemingly always injured) OShead (rotation) and Enrique - the only one I'm happy with but hardly a big scorer.

I'm thinking Jara out for Konchesky or Oshea for GCahill. I'm tempted by the latter. I had Cahill for alot of last season and his bonuses and goals were most welcome.

It's not a bad side ViperStripes.

I'd try to get rid of some of the rotation risks as there are a few too many of them. I think Hernandez to KDavies is a decent transfer but I'd probably keep Adam for some longer. He's not really a rotation risk, yesterday was just weird.

After this gameweek you will have more info and can then look to who you want to get out first, and if you want to keep Malouda

Im doubting my own ability at the moment but i would say they all need to be in your team esp if they are playing at home. All have the potential to score heavily!

Personally think you need a big name defender in there, from Chelsea - trade down one of your midfield (Malouda i would suggest)

I was at the game last night and Bily, who replaced Coleman, was poor. I'd bet on Coleman going straight back into the starting XI. He came on and within 5 minutes he offered more threat than Bily had done in an hour or whatever he played for

I'm probably going to get rid of Malouda, I'm giving him one last chance this week, and then bringing Nani back in for him next. There is greater potential in Nani and VDV, I think Malouda's great form at the beginning of the season has made me hold onto him for longer than I should have done.

Drogba is on pens at least, I will be looking at Tevez if he gets injured or there is more talk of malaria.

I agree about Arteta too, he is out for VDV for me this week.

Either way you will be taking a risk with your defence, as only Konchesky is a nailed on starter, and the rest and Stoke haven't been that solid this season so Faye will be a risk.

Your team isn't that bad, the only improvement you have made is getting rid of Berbatov and putting Nani in, if you are going to play your wildcard you should make some dramatic changes, if not just slowly change your team to get it how you want.

Rough midGW. Will have to hols onto Malouda and Bale for this coming GW anyway; makes no sense to sell now what with the HOME fixtures and decent opponents. Nasri should get a run at the w/e, but away to EVE isn't much of a fixture and hes back to being a rot risk now. Berbs out seems to be the pressing priority; he was poo last night, as were Man U in general.

Dropped out the top 20k 🙁

I don't think I can put any more faith in Gareth Bale. And VdV can't be ignored any more!

    So this is the team:

    Foster/Harper
    Terry/Samba/Coleman/Elmo/Williamson
    Arteta/Malouda/VDV/Fabregas/Adam
    Drogba/Carroll/Elmander

Nothing wrong with that I feel bar captain choices not going my way and the big money players under-performing. But this is the case for most people. Harper is obviously injured but there are other fish to fry.

One thing is for certain, this will be the last week I have three Chelsea players in the squad. The reliance on Malouda and Drogba to do anything every week is killing my team. I got Terry in at the expense of Alex and while he's not going to get ACole-esque scores, barring death, he's going to play every week so I can leave him be.

So that leaves the main choice: Drogba or Malouda?

Malouda out gives me Nani coverage, but with him playing in the advanced role, his returns (should he ever get any) are greater than Drogba's.

Drogba out could give me Tevez or Torres coverage and a larger wedge in the kitty. But he's on free kicks and seeing that he played while having malaria, he is a solider.

Initial feelings are that I should hold firm this week, bank the transfer and then shift out Malouda for Nani and then get in some City coverage in defence. Toure is the obvious choice as he starts every game, but I'd be looking at Kolorov or Boetang.

Would then give me Terry/City Defender/Coleman/Elmo/Williamson.

    Your thoughts are always appreciated.

    Thanks.

I'd definitely shift Malouda rather than Drogs and I agree that a City defender is a good idea

Your midfield looks very good. I would ship Malouda out, I have both Malouda and Drogba, and I would never captain Malouda over him. He also seems to be more likely to get rotated with Kalou available in his position. Also, when Lampard is back, you may want him as your Chelsea midfielder, whereas I wouldn't have thought you would opt for Anelka over Drogba.

Your defence looks ok, what a while if you are looking at Boateng or Kolarov, you don't want to have someone like Bosingwa in your team.

I think you should change your keeper sooner rather than later too, soley relying on Foster is going to get you losts of 2 point weeks, Birmingham's upcoming games don't look to clean.

        Thanks for the replies.

Drogs vs. Malouda: The captain debate was the sole reason I was going to shift him out two GW's ago. Then Nani/VDV both got themselves injured and Nani was the definite one out so slung in Arteta.

Defence: The midweek GW has proven that while it's good to have a couple of OOP players in your squad, you need to back it up with at least two top tier defenders to compensate for the rotation and risk of not playing. Toure offers that, but as with Terry, you're not going to get anymore than that.

Harper - Yeah it's getting to that stage but as always, there are bigger priorities to be dealing with.

Is anyone else having a problem now where your team has been very similar since the start of the season and you now have 4-5 star players who have increased in price so much you fear to transfer any of them even though they are in poor form because when they do hit form you can't afford to transfer them back in?

I basically feel like I can't sub anyone out, argh

Yes - Malouda and drog being the prime examples. I've had them from day 1 and getting rid is more of less a permanent decision as I couldn't afford to get them back when they start scoring hugely (which would be the week after I sell them).

I made Piquionne captain, finally a good decision with my captain. He missed some good chances aswell.

Thinking about leaving him captain for the weekend.
