A five goal feast at the Britannia Stadium; whatever next? At least Rafael Van der Vaart stuck the script. The Dutchman notched once again in a disappointing 1-1 draw for Spurs, maintaining his record of scoring in every game he’s played at White Hart Lane; a case of “he started so he finished”…

Tony Pulis made four changes to the Stoke side for Birmingham’s visit to the Britannia, as he looked to stop a run of four straight league defeats. Suspension to Ryan Shawcross allowed Danny Higginbottom a chance, but the defender put in a nervy performance at the heart of the Stoke defence. Jermain Pennant and Rory Delap’s ability to fire balls into the opposition box also saw them start against Alex McLeish’s men. Robert Huth produced an impressive aerial display at both ends of the pitch that saw him grab a goal, while a moment of magic from Ricardo Fuller and a scrappy tap-in from Dean Whitehead were enough to win the points for Stoke. Sir Paulos

Birmingham brought Craig Gardner and Jean Beausejour into the side and benched Alex Hleb and Keith Fahey for the trip to Stoke. Fahey eventually replaced the Chilean winger to notch the visitors’ first goal before Cameron Jerome netted the second. Alex McLeish’s outfit came back from 2-0 down for the second time in four days, but this time their toils were in vain, as Stoke finally saw off their visitors in an unexpected goal-fest. Birmingham have now conceded 2 or more goals in 5 of their 6 away games so far this season, worrying news for Fantasy owners of Ben Foster and co. Up next? A trip to Eastlands, where Carlos Tevez awaits..Sir Paulos

Harry Redknapp made a handful of changes from the team that lost 4-2 up at Bolton just a few days ago as it was David Bentley’s turn to make his first start of the season, Tom Huddlestone was recalled back into central midfield and Roman Pavluychenko rewarded Peter Crouch a rest. Rafael Van Der Vaart also declared himself fit to play and proved vital once more when combining with Peter Crouch (off the bench at half time) to score his seventh goal in six games at White Hart Lane.

Van der Vaart continued his incredible scoring record at home then, once again compounding the difference in returns between him and team-mate Gareth Bale. The Welshman again contributed a paltry two points for his owners. Ironically, while Van der Vaart had suffered a price drop in the FPL in the last 24 hours, Bale has increased in value. It won’t be long before that situation is reversed. With his goal threat and overall contribution and influence on Tottenham’s play, Van der Vaart continues to look the far more viable option and even the most stubborn of Bale supporters will surely be making plans for Rafael.

Spurs have, rather surprisingly, scored just 14 goals from their 12 Premier League games this season and have not kept a clean sheet since the opening day of the season. Despite Van der Vaart’s influence then, there are concerns for Redknapp at both ends of the field. Jermain Defoe will surely walk back into the side once fit.

Roman Pavlyuchenko was subbed at half-time with a back in injury, while Redknapp also revealed post-match that Robbie Keane has picked up an ankle knock. Both will be doubts for the home clash with Blackburn this weekend.

Opposing manager Steve Bruce didn’t want to be bested on any fronts however and he made six changes to the team that lost to Stoke with the likes of Titus Bramble, Anton Ferdinand, Bolo Zenden, Kieran Richardson and Craig Gordon all coming in, the most notable absentee was that off Ahmed Elmohammady who was only afford a place on the bench and went unused on the night. Whether this was a simple case of rest with a deep squad at a busy time or something else, things will need to watched closely from here on in. Elmohammady had been subbed in his previous two Gameweeks prior to last night’s game – indication that his starting role is far from secure. With Craig Gordon now installed back in goal for Sunderland – Simon Mignolet’s value as a budget Fantasy proposition looks bleak; Gordon had an outstanding game on his return.

The Black Cats travel to Stamford Bridge next, with Bruce perhaps likely to stick to the formula used to snuff out Spurs in the second-half of last night’s game. Anton Ferdinand, who started at left-back, will be an immediate doubt for that game however – after limping off on 18 minutes last night.

Record signing Asamoah Gyan once again proved effective in rescuing Sunderland a point; he capitalised on a mistake between Kaboul and Gallas and duly slotted home. The likely absence of Darren Bent for the next couple of weeks should also see the Ghanaian look to capitalise on a run of games and begin to share some of the goalscoring burden. Bent and Gyan are still the only two players to have scored for Sunderland in the league so far this season.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Foster — Gilks
    A Cole — Vidic — Elmohamady — Simpson — Foley
Fabregas — Cahill — Van der Vaart — Adam — Albrighton
    Drogba — Chamakh — Carrol

    0.6 cash monies.

Thoughts on these 3 possible moves?

    1. Save transfer and do Drogba/Albrighton for Torres/Brunt next week.

    2. Cahill to Nani

    3. Elmohammady to Coleman

Don't get rid of Drogs whatever you do. honestly Torres is a flash in the pan, hasn't shown enough form yet.

I've got both Elmohad & Coleman, both great.

It'll be difficult in two weeks time to decide who to bring in between Bent and Defoe - the former has fantastic fixtures, but the latter is capable of scoring big at any time.

Defoe is a terribly frustrating player to own. Little consistency to his goalscoring.

His infamous 5 against Wigan last season sent his stock soaring. VDV is enough cover for (for me) in that Spurs attack.

Still, it'll be interesting to see what kind of understanding VDV & Defoe are able to strike up.

Exactly - that combo could be lethal. And the other three strikers at TH are so gash at the moment, that you'd think Defoe would play every game.

Very few people has captained Drogba. If he goes wild it would be major movement up and down. I feel like first GW. He was supposed to be injured but scored 3 goals. He haven't scored for 4 games in the PL and I saw nothing wrong with him against Liv in the second half so I've risked.

"The Drogs could be stopped only by Drogba". IMO

Loads of people captained Bale. Which was wrong for 2 reasons - (1) He hasn't scored more than 5 for 10 GWk's (2) If you'd have waited until 7.15 for the team news you would have seen VDV playing.

I saw the Liverpool 2nd half and even a half-dead Drogba was imperious. Definitely my (c) for this week.

No, you are wrong for 2 reasons.

            1) The other usual candidates for captaincy were Drogba and Fabregas. Drogba has malaria (100% my arse) and Fabs is just as much out of form.

            2) Spurs team sheet was released at 7.35 unless you are Harry Redknapp or a Spurs player?

You say not many people – but you mean not many people on here, which constitutes a tiny percentage of total managers. Drogba will be the most captained player this week by the masses so if he scores big it wont make much of a difference to your overall ranking, as so many others have him/ captained him

I don't think so, it was all over on the news that he has malaria, even managers that make subs once in 4-5 GW has asked me what's the deal. So they have logged IMO and didn't captained Drogba. In first 10 managers overall there is only one who has Drogs captain. In my mini league only 2 has captained him. Will see what will happen.

        Still on my previous statement.

I've noticed my Foster / Krul combo isn't looking so great from GW14 onwards, I recall wehn initially choosing that pairing most people were only looking about this far ahead in terms of how long the rotation worked for. Anyone else considering rejigging their keepers so they rotate well for the next 10 GWs or so?

shame it's focussed on the beginning of the season on the one hand and the whole season on the other, when what we need now is a table and rankings that ignore the first 14 weeks.

Look back and check the last time he made a double transfer. So nothing will be carried over from the GWs before that. So if he has made a transfer every week from then on he doesnt have rolling transfer available.

Hmmm I'm not so sure. He played well early season and got 3bps v Man Utd and an assist at Liverpool. He has clearly had a dip in form - was poor at Blackburn, taken off at Newcastle (admittedly probably tactical), subbed against Stoke and benched last night

Good morning people, everyone recovered after Alonso14gate?

I did see that lineup he posted, then saw the BBC website a few minutes after and then the site crashed.

Needless to say, VDV sat proudly in my team since Saturday evening and was rewarded with a goal.

However, main rival in my main league has made two (free) transfers already after last nights games and I know for a fact that one of them will have been VDV for Bale - especially after last nights game.

Oh well, he was a cracking little differential while it lasted.

Onto tonight: Lets hope none of the Fulham players will want to go near Drogba given his bout of Malaria and he bags himself a few points.

It will be interesting to see how Spurs shape up with Defoe back in the team. VDV is benefiting from long balls and crosses to Crouch, so is Harry going to change it and play Defoe as the lone striker? If he plays Crouch and Defoe together who drops out of midfield?

I agree, but will he get the shape wrong? Spurs are also missing Lennon's pace on the right so he has to put him straight back in I reckon. Modric to miss out? Bale back to left back? I wouldn't do either of those

              Yup,

Defoe and VDV basically equals two strikers wanting to shoot whenever they can. Crouch can oft be infuriating but his hold up and knock down play is bringing out the best in Van Der Vaart, can't see anything close to that happening with Defoe - he's a player who'll want all the glory for himself.

No way modders doesn't start when fit. He's class. And Bale has been too good on the wing to be dropped to defence. Imo when everyone's fit Redknapp will have to start bale, lennon, vdv, modric in mid with hud or palacios anchoring. That leaves defoe to play the lone striker with a lot of bench warming for crouch and pav.

Even though VDV is playing well, Spurs are struggling to score goals, so I think Defoe will definitely come in to partner Crouch up front. What this means for VDV is anyone's guess, but I certainly think it will make him less of a force in FPL.

disagree, it will make a front trio of Crouch/Pav and Defoe and VDV sitting in the pocket, more options for him, maybe less goals but more assists surely, and plus, he will remain on set pieces, VDV is the man

About half a dozen national tabloids. They all occupy various political stances; or at least claim to, but they mostly concentrate on sensationalist news in their own way. What you expect from tabloids really.

The Mail and Express see themselves as 'quality news', although they aren't. The Star just doesn't care what people think.

Interesting. In Oz we have only three national papers, 2 owned by Rupert Murdoch (one for the simpletons and one for those that fancy themselves a bit clever) and one owned by Fairfax that considers itself a higher class of paper.

Champ - Murdoch runs with the same idea over here too.

The Sun for the simples and The Times for the mid-brows that think they're highbrows.

Both run quite a lot of stories about "abuses" and "money wasting" at the BBC in a continued attempt to get rid of the licence fee and get rid of Murdoch's main competitor in TV-land.

                    God I hate that guy.

If they are consistent they shouldn’t allow it. I thought Carroll’s earlier in the season was an assist and it was not given.

The one Bale was later awarded a few weeks back I was fine with as it was heading towards THud anyway. Jarvis got one a couple of weeks ago that was pretty scandalous and Etherington’s last night was an eye poppingly bad decision which I hope they rectify. I half expect them to allow it mind.

Can you explain to me what is desirable about that run in? Both of their home games won't be high scoring, they could very well be beaten by the Mancs and Everton could pinch a draw. Two London derbies away where anything could happen. Birmingham and Newcastle are the weakest links and Chelsea have struggled at St. Andrews historically. One of the players I'm thinking of getting rid of (Malouda) was sent off their last season! Feel free to put forward your argument for sticking with the champions...

They were outshone by Wolves at the Bridge recently. Liverpool beat them recently. I get the feeling you are holding onto to last season and the first two results of this season.

they're probably top completely by fluke.

The only Chelsea player id want for that run is Drogba and ill be keeping him barring injury/extremely poor form. Too expensive to get back and still most likely to be top striker come the end of the season

Not totally they have a Naff run of fixtures and seem to have run out of early season form, ( but they are still top)

If you had to sell Malouda or Drogba and get by on just 1 Chelsea player, who would you keep?

Is bosingwa getting rotated due to a lack of fitness/match sharpness or can we expect him to be a rotation risk for the rest of the season.

This is likely going to be the case for the rest of the season.

he will always be a rotation risk if everyone's fit. He's competing with Chelsea's best defender imo for the right back slot. I'd expect him to play most of the nice home fixtures but I think Ivan will play more games overall for the rest of the season.

Have you considered Cech? No rotation there. Even Alex has a slight risk, when Bosingwa starts at right back it's possible ivanovic could be preferred to alex at cb.

Cech would be a good punt actually, though unfortunately funds won't allow it.

Help please gents. I need a solid defender but have only 5m to spend. Obvious ones are at Sunderland but they have Chelsea and Everton next two weeks. Hutton was thought of but Spurs have Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea in the next 5. Was considering Huth but Stoke seem to let in a lot of goals.

I already have Williamson and Coleman.

    Ideas?

Koncheskey. He's dropped to 5m - wig, stk, WHM, tot, AVL, new - some clean sheets, and potential assists.

I'm not too bothered but this morning I got added to the total fpl league. How did that happen? I've never registered any details through them, just looked on the site for price changes

Kingston you must be going senile, the only way you can join a league is by entering in the code and clicking join. Unless you have given out your password?
