Having failed to domestically mirror his headline-making Champions League displays over the last couple of months, Gareth Bale has been a source of frustration for his Fantasy Premier League (FPL) owners. Today, however, the Spurs winger came good with an inspired performance as Harry Redknapp’s side put four past visitors Blackburn.

Bale’s two goals and an assist will surely be followed by the 3 Bonus Points, giving him a total of 18 points from today’s game, which is, incredibly, the combined tally of last eight gameweeks. Given that Rafael Van der Vaart had scored 48 FPL points in the same period prior to today’s game, this gives an indication of just how much Bale has been underachieving in the Premier League, in comparison to his team mate.

Spurs had scored just 2 goals in their last 2 league games at White Hart Lane and were booed off the park last weekend, but today, Harry Redknapp moved from 4-5-1 to his more conventional 4-4-2 formation, which will undoubtedly have influenced today’s scoring.

With Peter Crouch partnered by Roman Pavlyuchenko up top, Van der Vaart was moved from his role behind a lone striker out to the right wing, where he still managed to supply two assists in the home win. Consequently, this was the first home game he has failed to find the net since joining Spurs at the end of this summer’s transfer window.

Bale’s goals were his first since Gameweek 2 and is just reward for the 43.5% of Fantasy managers who have shown patience with him, despite the above-mentioned run of low-scoring. He now sits just 1 FPL point behind Van der Vaart, and dependant on the Dutchman’s Bonus Point allocation this evening, could overtake him by this evening.

Bale sits at £6.8m right now, though his price has been as high as £7.1m this season. This week will no doubt see further heavy investment in the Welshman, despite Spurs travelling to the Emirates next weekend for a North London derby with Arsenal. Clearly, however, Van der Vaart’s consistency is a more dependable source of points and with Redknapp changing the system from game to game, it’s still debatable as to whether Bale is the best Spurs midfielder to have in your FPL squad. His explosive skill and ability to score big, however, was illustrated in emphatic style this afternoon.

Question to all peeps not linking your team..

    Is it because you..

A Choose not to because you are embarassed about your rank?
B Choose not to because you are protective about your team?
    C Don't know how to?
    D Other? (Please explain)

No right or wrong answers, just curious!
    Many thanks 🙂

I dont like people seeing my team and also i mainly use my phone to come on here and its a bit of a fanny on or impossible to do it on a phone thanks for asking in a reasonable manner though. Theres is somewhat of an 'us and them' attitude on here regarding this issue

Us and them? Maybe for some. I respect peeps wishes if they choose not to link their team, that is their right and choice, but I find it really sad if they then post unsubstantiated boasts about how they 'made Bale Capt' today etc...

Yeah there seems amongst a lot of posters to be a general feeling of superiority towards 'non-linkers' as if having a linked team in some way reflects your football knowledge its quite funny really because its so daft but can sometimes be a drag when your on the receiving end of it. As i said though this does not seem to be your angle so hats off to ya and goid luck 🙂

Klasnic is the risk. I think he's just back from injury and scored last game. Plus Elmander had a virus and was doubtful for this game but recovered in time.

But I think Elmander should be safe.

Is it wrong to think that Elmander's goal was the best of the season so far? It was absolutely brilliant, and if someone like Bergkamp did they same then people would talk about it for years....

It's really not worth watching. Trust me, I forked out 15 quid to buy it on Sky Box Office, and it was a massive let down.

Rounds 1 & 2: Harrison covers his face with his gloves and makes no attempt to throw a punch in Haye's direction. Boos from the crowd at the end of each round.

Round 3: Haye goes for it, and absolutely batters Harrison. Harrison takes a couple of solid punches to the face and then falls, only to get back up and for the fight to be ended 10 seconds later after Haye lands another solid punch.

It was a total waste of time and money.

Ok, I need Nani in this week.

My midfield is VDV,Bale,Fab,N'zogbia and Albrighton.

I think either Fab or Bale have to go. But which one?

Fab has spurs up next, and they looked dodgy in defence today. But if spurs start playing 442, couldn't bale's returns improve greatly?

If I get rid of Bale, it means downgrading Drogba to Tevez in the next 15 minutes, as price changes would make it unaffordable tomorrow.

Watching at Berbatov's points right now - this is a book example why buying players after point hauls can be a bad idea. This is ridiculous how he has not done anything since the hat-trick against Liverpool.

Silly talk Vlad. You can't expect a hat-trick out of Berbatov - or anyone really - more than once a season. That he's not scored since then has zilch to do with him netting three vs Liverpool.

Of course. But form comes and goes, and Berba's always had a tendency to blow hot and cold.

Didn't help that the highlights game in between the live games last night was Chelsea 6, West Brom 0 with the Drog getting a hat-trick! I was sitting there thinking Oh no, what have I done?! Should never have had those beers during the league final. Which reminds me TM - don't be too upset about the loss. You were playing the world champions afterall.

Jaask and Foster fine, probably could be better?. You should have got rid of Samba. Barton is banned and just an idiot. You probably need one of Bale or VDV in there and personally either Zog or Adam is enough just pick one.

Can't believe Dembele has fallen to 5.2 when I've only had him for about 2 weeks and got him in at 5.4.

What's even more tragic is that I picked him over Elmander, K Davies, Odemwingie and I also had Dempsey at the time also. Worst decision of the season behind my decision to captain Torres at Everton.

nzog would be underpriced at 7 mil. bad fixtures tho but everything goes through him and he's fighting for a transfer. he was good at newcastle but has found an end product. about top 5 point scorer last year. started slowly because of wigan slow start and being unhappy but he's back on form now. i just don't have space.

i've realised i've been obsessed with getting the best players, had 8 untouchables that i couldn't drop for fixtures. Trying to free up funds and look for cheap players that rotate well with good fixtures. I've been so patient with drogs and malouda. Only stuck with them because i dropped cashley for "bad fixtures" and now can't afford him.
