Having failed to domestically mirror his headline-making Champions League displays over the last couple of months, Gareth Bale has been a source of frustration for his Fantasy Premier League (FPL) owners. Today, however, the Spurs winger came good with an inspired performance as Harry Redknapp’s side put four past visitors Blackburn.

Bale’s two goals and an assist will surely be followed by the 3 Bonus Points, giving him a total of 18 points from today’s game, which is, incredibly, the combined tally of last eight gameweeks. Given that Rafael Van der Vaart had scored 48 FPL points in the same period prior to today’s game, this gives an indication of just how much Bale has been underachieving in the Premier League, in comparison to his team mate.

Spurs had scored just 2 goals in their last 2 league games at White Hart Lane and were booed off the park last weekend, but today, Harry Redknapp moved from 4-5-1 to his more conventional 4-4-2 formation, which will undoubtedly have influenced today’s scoring.

With Peter Crouch partnered by Roman Pavlyuchenko up top, Van der Vaart was moved from his role behind a lone striker out to the right wing, where he still managed to supply two assists in the home win. Consequently, this was the first home game he has failed to find the net since joining Spurs at the end of this summer’s transfer window.

Bale’s goals were his first since Gameweek 2 and is just reward for the 43.5% of Fantasy managers who have shown patience with him, despite the above-mentioned run of low-scoring. He now sits just 1 FPL point behind Van der Vaart, and dependant on the Dutchman’s Bonus Point allocation this evening, could overtake him by this evening.

Bale sits at £6.8m right now, though his price has been as high as £7.1m this season. This week will no doubt see further heavy investment in the Welshman, despite Spurs travelling to the Emirates next weekend for a North London derby with Arsenal. Clearly, however, Van der Vaart’s consistency is a more dependable source of points and with Redknapp changing the system from game to game, it’s still debatable as to whether Bale is the best Spurs midfielder to have in your FPL squad. His explosive skill and ability to score big, however, was illustrated in emphatic style this afternoon.

I think I might be the only FPL manager in the world who will be looking to sell Bale this week.... nothing but a source of frustration all season. On a related side note anyone know where Drogba lives, someone needs to tell the big Ivorian to rest up and recuperate properly.

If Tot go back to 4-4-2 with Defoe back, you really want to sell Bale?

Frees up more space for him in midfield to operate - downgrades VDV fantasy value as he's no longer second striker + Defoe is probably back on PKs...

Fiso has, Nani was supposed to be protected after his injury flag was removed but he went up in value on Thursday night so there is no protection. Stick to FPL it's not perfect but it's more accurate than FISO.

I don't think I'll bother with the 2nd half then, sounds riveting.

Great call on Jarvis. He's impressed me this season although I never really considered to buy him. Shame you captained someone in the most defensive minded team in the league though 😉

Got Kolarov right but will have to wait and see on Zhirkov tomorrow. Jarvis is on the watchlist now with Wolves nice run, good transfers Db.

        Cheers DFD

Just wish I had stayed with VDV or Drogba as (C).

        Keeping hold of Tevez?
Il prob downgrade to Elmander or Odemwinigie and make Morrsion & Dann become Vidic & Nani.

Yup, keeping Tevez. They have a nice run and he won't score a shedload of points every game but he will score big soon and I want him when he does. The thing is what striker is on consistent form at the mo? Not many.

            Elmander!

He is only 1 point behind Tevez Crazy good value!

Yeah he represents good value, I just don't rate him as a player in the prem even though I picked in GW1 for his first year in EPL and he scored.
I'm thinking of K.Davies over him for C.Cole this week.

If I got Rio instead of Vidic I could get Davies.

                Hmmmm.

Bonuses are really important factors huh. I have a theory. 4 point hit is worth it if the player we're gonna buy are bonus magnets and have 2 easy fixtures coming. While the players we're selling are not certain starters

36 points with 5 and captain still to play, not bad

    26 points on the bench...what a squad 😉

    OMFG!

When the f*ck are we going to play Dorrans in his best position?! He's our best player yet we don't start him and when we did (West Ham) we played him in Mulumbu's position as a defensive mid. Play him off the striker Di Matteo you useless p*ick. Fairplay what he's done but the last 3-4 games he's got it wrong, f*ckin sort it out.

Dorrans should be played in a central midfield role as a defensive playmaker. That's what I do in FM11 and he's killing it! 🙂

All right, sorry about that, I'd actually really like to watch him in his best position a few games. Who is in that position instead?

Basically we have our two holding midfielders, Scharner and Mulumbu. Dorrans came in for Mulumbu and played as a holding midfielder on West Ham. In our attacking positions we have Thomas, Brunt and Morrison. He should be playing as the attacking midfielder, off Odemwingie where Morrison is currently playing, not instead of Morrison though but Thomas, who is being useless at the moment, then put Morrison on the wing where IMO he is better.

Oh I see. So that is how I'm supposed to line the team up...

Hopefully something will happen so Dorrans gets a run, I think many neutrals would like to see him play.

What team gets promoted then drops their best player from the previous season?! Di Matteo keeps going on about how he will come good and how he's off form, but he hasn't even gave him the chance in the position he performed outstandingly well last year, which is off the striker.

              Ipswich 2001
              Birmingham 2009.

Dorrans is average at best. Looked awesome in the Championship. Ye probaably should have taken West Hams money for him.

Wait?! Really don't have a clue how you can say that..

First three games he started, didn't do much but we played Chelsea and Liverpool away in them. He came on and changed the game at half time against Blues and him and Odemwingie together basically got us 3 points, then the next time he starts against West Ham he plays in Mulumbu's position which is rather defensive.

Your opinion is obviously just going on fantasy points.. not a clue tbh. Average at best, pffffft!
