We’ve had a frenzied seven days. Three Gameweeks have passed so quickly that a teamโ€™s run of good fixtures may now have transformed into a nightmare schedule, and vice versa of course.

Take a breath then, crack out your “Season Ticker”, and letโ€™s stroll through the hot and cold spells ahead as we build up to the hectic Christmas programme…

The Highs…

Bolton
Members can click on “sort by difficulty” on the next six ticker and get an immediate indication on why Bolton are looking like a good investment right now. Their next six Gameweeks look outstanding (NEW, BLP, mcy, BLA, sun, WBA) with Reebok encounters against all three promoted clubs for starters. This schedule also arrives on top of an incredible run of form, a run that has seen them climb to fifth place in the league table.

In defence, Gary Cahill, at 5.4 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, has picked up 11 bonus points in his last six fixtures and points could continue flowing as he looks to add clean sheets and maybe a first goal of the season. Chung-Yong Lee (5.2) has started notching assists and impressed at the weekend, while strikers Kevin Davies (6.4) and Johan Elmander (6.0) continue to offer good budget striking options. A Bolton representative looks a very wise move for the coming weeks.

Wolves
The Wanderers remain the only team this season without a clean sheet but their forthcoming fixtures promise the potential for improvement, with more goals to follow at the other end of the pitch. Mick McCarthyโ€™s side face trips to Blackpool, Blackburn and West Brom and have home games against Sunderland, Birmingham and Wigan. A very decent run of opponents which could see investment in the likes of Matt Jarvis (5.3), Stephen Hunt (5.3) and Kevin Doyle (5.1), reap healthy dividends for Fantasy Managers looking for some low-to-mid price fodder.

Man United
Manchester United will face Arsenal and Chelsea in the next six but, in the short-term, they have three strong fixtures to come (WIG, BLA, blp). Despite an almighty scare at Villa Park this weekend, United remain the only unbeaten side in the league. With form at Old Trafford always strong and two plum home ties to come, continued or added investment looks to be a good call. Wayne Rooney returned from his week’s boot camp in USA and if he’s ready, following a price drop to ยฃ11.3m, he may prove a handy little investment for those in the hat for a gamble. Nani has returned from a short spell on the sidelines and his price (9.0) rising once more, while Nemanja Vidic (7.5), comes at a price but is solidifying a partnership with Rio Ferdinand (6.5) and is just one short of his best Premier League season goal tally with three to his name so far.

Fulham
A dark horse. Trips to Arsenal and Liverpool skew their Season Ticker rating somewhat, but four Craven Cottage encounters (MCY BIR ars SUN liv WHM) in the next six appears to offer some true potential for results and Fantasy returns. While Clint Dempseyโ€™s stock may have declined as a result of his shift back to a midfield role, Mousa Dembele could well be worth another look, while the defensive talents of Brede Hangeland, complete with his knack for late goals, should enter our thoughts once again.

Also to consider: Liverpool – Roy Hodgson’s men have the fixtures on their side, starting with an Anfield meet with West Ham this weekend. West Brom – form is faltering but their run of decent opponents continues, with a Hawthorns clash against Stoke up next. Stoke – the Potters also have reasonable fixtures in their coming schedule and, unlike the Baggies, are on a run of form. Man City – despite having four away games in their next six, the list of opponents may give them opportunity to earn results. Everton – besides trips to Chelsea and Man City the Toffees have some good games on the horizon, with some kind looking Goodison encounters in the next six.

The Lows…

Chelsea
Chelseaโ€™s Fantasy output has faltered badly and the fixture list is not about to grant them any favours to help improve matters. Didier Drogba is battling to regain full strength after malaria, Frank Lampardโ€™s prolonged absence through injury continues, Florent Malouda has scored just one goal in his last eight games and Michael Essien is suspended for two more matches. In a nutshell, Carlo Ancelottiโ€™s side are depleted and troubled. The real kicker is that their upcoming schedule gets very rough, very soon. Two away games at Birmingham and Newcastle โ€œeaseโ€ them in somewhat, but they follow that with trips to Spurs and Arsenal, with a home clash with United sandwiched in between. An immediate improvement this Gameweek is surely required otherwise the Chelsea sales will start to ramp up rapidly.

Wigan
Wigan are only reliable at one thing it seems – being unreliable. Their upcoming slate of games (mun, whm, STK, eve, AVL, wol) appears to make it harder than normal to invest in their assets. Paraguayan international Antolin Alcaraz has proved to be one of the few solid ยฃ4.5m defenders out there, but choosing if/when the next clean sheet may arrive looks very tricky. Charles N’Zogbia could remain a shrewd pick as he snaffles up Bonus Points, but that often relies on the Latics earning a positive result. With four from six on the road, Roberto Martinezโ€™ side will have to recapture their away form if they are to offer returns. They remain a gamblers choice.

Tottenham
Gareth Bale has just picked up his first big haul in months – a mammoth 18 FPL points. Rafael Van Der Vaart has oozed class and been highly consistent, while a Jermain Defoe return appears to be on the cards sooner rather than later. Positive stuff then, although the fixture list is about to turn against them. Of their upcoming six games (ars, LIV, bir, CHE, blp, avl) the away game at Blackpool looks the most promising, and even then a clean sheet would seem unlikely. It’s not to say their players should be avoided; if anything, options like Bale seem to be “big game” players. Investment definitely needs to be considered carefully however, particularly if youโ€™re tempted by the Van der Vaart/Bale midfield double act.

Be wary of: West Ham – Apart from a home fixture with Wigan in Gameweek 15, the bottom of the table club don’t appear to have many promising opponents on the horizon. Arsenal – the Gunners will need to maintain form โ€“ they donโ€™t have an easy schedule, with Fulham at home in Gameweek 16 the closest they come to a comfortable ride. Birmingham – a strong result at City, but the tests keep coming in the weeks ahead.

I can see Wayne getting about 30min at Weekend. Ease him in and let the crowd get the venting out of the way and then start him the following weekend if all goes well.
I maybe tempted to sell Drogba then if he continues in a lull and Wayne shows signs he can control the ball once more.

OR because Utd have 3 great fixtures coming up and Rooney will be desperate to prove himself again to the manager and fans. If i picked my team based on being a Utd fan i'd have 3 Utd players in my team right? All this takes is a little thought JJ, you'll get there eventually.

"Rooney will be desperate to prove himself again to the manager and fans"

You don't know this. On the evidence of his actions a few weeks ago, he couldn't care less.

You know as well as I do, if not better, that Rooney is a player who works off form. Once he gets going, there's no stopping him, but if he's not in form, he's a complete waste of space. That's where we are now, in waste-of-space territory.

He's just come back from injury, so there's no guarantee that he'll be sharp, or even fit enough to start.

To be fair you're guessing and surmising as much as AP here. It's a judgement call, Rooney is a cracking player who needed his head straightened, as it was a mental rather than ankle problem that was clearly holding him back. I think they'll use him to gain confidence and match fitness in the WIG, BLA, blp games so he is ready for the ARS, che 6 pointers.
At the same time an off form Tevez has ful, stk, and BOL so if I'm wrong about the first three then Tevez probably wont be going mental points wise anyway. Seems a reasonably safe gamble, though it will take another 4 pointer.

No one knows anything. It's all based on educated guess work. Just like you don't know i'm only picking him because i'm a Red, you guessed (incorrectly).

However after watching Rooney for 6 odd seasons, i'm pretty sure i can guess he'll come out firing on all cylinders. He's been training hard for at least 2 weeks, and these were exactly the sort of games he owned last year. I'm not suggesting you pick him, in fact i'll be happier the fewer people have him.

I wouldn't rule making him captain out at all, might actually be a good idea.

My captain's points in the last 5 before being doubled have been: 1,3,1,3,2.

I've gone up in every single one of those weeks, so a bad captain might not destroy you at all. Considering it.

Because those games where he was injured, under the microscope for shaggin', mid contract debacle has zero influence on next weeks games. If you want a good example of the pointlessness of stats, see Chelsea and Sunderland's Home/Away record for the year prior to this weekend. That's why it may be different.

Not as such, but the old cliché about class is permanent form is temporary is true. A player of Rooney's calibre will start to perform at his usual level again unless he has actually massively deteriorated as a player. I don't believe he has permanently become a bad player, just that there was a lot of off the field shite that clearly had a negative effect. I am taking the gamble that his hiatus in America has done him good and he will be back to concentrating on what he does best.

disclaimer: I don't think Rooney's done a Shevchenko, I just don't think people should take it for granted that he'll come back and start firing. His recent form has been terrible, he's just back from a series of injuries, and all that crap in the media is still fresh in the mind.

It's silly to think he'll just come back and be Rooney circa December '09 again.

Andrei Schevchenko was not used to the Premier League, Rooney is. Sometimes a good player can lose confidence and start to play badly but in this particular case I think that Rooney will come good again, he is both young and talented enough to reverse this slump.
Truth is neither of us will know until AFTER the next few weeks so not much point mooing about it now.

Rooney has looked like a bad player as opposed to becoming one while United have become a bad team, it would take great coconuts.

Yeah well Shev is 42 and rooney is 25 for starters. This has changed focus quite a bit. Let's recap, I'm not picking Rooney because i'm a Utd fan.

Aye its put up or shut up for Wazza, I think he'll do well and surely SAF will put him in for the easier games as soon as possible with a couple of biggies on the horizon, especially as Berbatov and Hernandez are misfiring.

Elmo's rotational risk now is probably the only issue but not something you have to do with the rest of your defence pretty strong! jus try not to do anything I know its tempting!
Only other thing is you are doubled up with Hart/Kolarov, I jus personally try avoiding doubling up like that but thats jus IMO.

I would only play them together at home against teams they should really be destroying with their clean sheets and Kolarovs attacking ability.

I still like the idea of 2 OOP defenders tho so strong bench for rotating.

Idea of playing Hart all the time due to his price so looking at swapping Jaas with Al Habsi and trying to improve Ferguson but what midfielder for 4.9 would be better...Barton???Park???

Fair enough sound reasoning for it. IMO look at Albrighton 4.6 and on the back of his performance v Utd at the weekend is going to be there for a while, I think with Barton you'd be too Newc heavy, Park is jus to rotationally risky and unpredictable. If those don't suit you would have to look at doqngrading someone to upgrade Ferg.

Im dropping Drogba , a contoversial move it seems.

    Heres the reasons

    SELL

    1)price drops on way
    2) Fixtures , looking rough now
    3) Essien out for next two , they a poor side without him
    4) Malaria
    5) Chelsea/Drogba were great at the start of season , however opponents were weak and still organising defences etc . Now there are no easy matches
    6) Very expensive

    KEEP

    1) He might be recovering from malaria

So im selling , he may nick the odd goal or two during these tough games , however i would expect his replacement to perform at least as well over the same period.
Will buy him back once fixtuures and chelseas/drogbas form pick up

Have Chelsea entered a relegation fight or something?

They will still beat more teams then most and Drogba will still score more goals then mist, Gareth Bale at the weekend showed that sometimes a little patience is needed.

Well done to all those who stuck with him, my mate captained him and shot up 4 places to the top of our league, Drogba has it in him to do the same constantly not just in one week.

    2) Hope Andy Carroll does damage to them French swineholes, or at least molests some of their lasses be they in or out of catsuits.
    3) I'm keeping Drogba, he may be riddled with Malaria but so's Cheryl Cole and I'd still like to give her the armband (I'm sure its a euphemism for something)
    4) Chelsea 0-3 5under1and still amuses me. ๐Ÿ™‚
    5) I WANNA PLAY BLACK OPS ONLINE!!!!

    fecking vodafone! G'd luck all.

    Bitter, bitter, bitter, bitter.....

Dominic West gave a talk last night my old school. Would have loved to have still been there just for that.

Sorry for the repost - nobody replied before...anyone know the answer to this?

On a serious note, I see Elmander is protected, but I heard that some players have risen even when protected…as he is >100% is there any chance he could rise tonight?
