Sunderland have the cheek to expose Chelsea frailties in front of the Stamford Bridge crowd, while Arsenal record a second away win in the space of four days, as Fabregas returns to the scoresheet and the Bonus Points. Here’s Sunday’s Scout Notes…

Sunderland’s outstanding Stamford Bridge victory saw them claim their third clean sheet in their last five. They have recovered from the 5-1 mauling by Newcastle with two strong defensive performances at Spurs and Chelsea. Nedum Onuoha (5.0) will earn all the attention within the back four after his stunning solo goal, but Titus Bramble at 4.7 or Phil Bardsley at 4.3, perhaps offer better value. Craig Gordon is another serious consideration in goal with his 4.5 price tag. The fixture list certainly promotes investment in the Sunderland squad. A home encounter with an Everton side struggling for goals comes next, that’s then followed by a very decent run of opponents, if you see past the trip to Old Trafford on Boxing Day (wol WHM ful BOL mun BLP BLA).

The Black Cats’ attacking assets also deserve consideration. Asamoah Gyan returned another goal – his fourth in three league outings and will deservedly attract the most interest. His priced increased to 7.2 in the FPL overnight and he will surely see a further increase in ownership as the days pass. One factoer here – we’ve yet to see how Steve Bruce incorporates the Ghanian with Darren Bent and that will be key to the potential of both players. The England striker could be back in Sunderland colours in the next couple of weeks following a hamstring injury.

Danny Welbeck scored his first league goal for Sunderland and produced a superb display which surely cements his role in Steve Bruce’s side. Ahmed Elmohamady remains out of position as a result, but unfortunately that position is now at the end of the bench. The Egyptian seems to have little chance of breaking back into the starting lineup given Welbeck’s current form. Currently priced at 5.2 in the FPL, we can expect Elmohamady’ 20% ownership to decline in the next two Gameweeks.

Florent Malouda was replaced by Carlo Ancelotti on 57 minutes, despite looking Chelsea’s most inventive player to that point. The substitution reiterates the rotation threat posed by Salomon Kalou; a factor that’s likely to remain for the rest of the season. That, and alarming form from the early season Fantasy darling, will surely cause another avalanche of FPL sales for the Chelsea man. We examined Malouda’s current form in detail in Foch’s Knee Jerk article last night.

Tim Cahill scored his sixth goal of the season on Sunday – his fourth in seven games. Cahill’s contribution has been key as David Moyes’ side continue to struggle for a cutting edge. They have scored just 6 goals in their last 5 league games with the Aussie contributing a couple in that total. With trips to Sunderland and Chelsea in the next three, Everton won’t find it easy to add to their goal tally and that could well temper any increased interest in Cahill.

Mikel Arteta was sacrificed for Yakubu on 68 minutes as David Moyes chased the game against Arsenal. A surprising move perhaps, but one that emphasises just how disappointing the Spaniard has been of late. While he continues to dictate matters, he tends to patrol deep areas in midfield and is offering little attacking threat. The Arteta vs Tim Cahill debate is a non-argument right now – Arteta’s stock is falling by week on week.

Seamus Coleman was restored to the starting lineup and completed the 90 minutes, shifting to right-back as David Moyes went gung-ho. Coleman’s lively performance which saw him look Everton’s most likely source of creativity in the first-half, should have cemented his role for the time being. That will offer reassurance for his Fantasy owners, although Everton and Coleman may struggle to find returns at Sunderland next time out.

Cesc Fabregas notched his second goal of the season at Goodison with the obligatory 3 FPL Bonus Points following on. That return will likely see further interest in the Gunners skipper with Fabregas is currently owned by just over 10% of FPL Managers. One sidenote that has to be a consideration however – Fabregas picked up his third consecutive booking on Sunday; he is now just one yellow card away from a suspension and it’s Spurs at home next.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

What a ridiculous game this is some weeks.
If you had Al-Habsi in goal, Danny Wellbeck striker, and Stuart HOlden in midfield as your captain...I would propose that you were an imbecile, but you would have finished on top of the pile for this gameweek probably!!! ridiculous

Problem is we don't know if you have injured players & who you other strikers are. Check totalfpl & see if lots of people are trading him out as it practically the same principle. You don't mention who you would replace him with either.

Has anyone ever done a backdated fantasy points total for all players since the premier league began?

This whole Elmo business is irritating. From what I've seen of Sunderland thus far, he has been playing well.

Think I'll do Elmo->Bardsley at some point, or possibly Konchesky (though I'm not sold on Pool)

Last time he played was against newcastle where he was taken off in first half , doesnt bode well imo . They have been outstanding since. He will need an injury to another player to get back in.

Thinking Konchesky or Bardsley (Ill buy a defender that cheap due to clean sheets, rather than Nedum for possible bonus etc).

          Hmm, its a toughie.

Nothing doing this week, since Ive made my transfers (yes, yes, I know - but sometimes I cant help myself and Ive generally had great discipline this season)

Alternative, given Carroll's fixtures and injury is

Malouda & Carroll -> Nani & Elmander, which would leave enough money for the outrageous move of

The only way he will miss the (H) Fulham game is if he plays in the Carling Cup in the midweek before and gets booked. Hopefully he won't get booked in the (H) Spurs game, but instead gets booked in the (A) Villa match, meaning that he'll miss the Carling Cup Match.

Having played (H) Tottenham, (A) Braga and (A) Villa in the space of 8 days, I doubt Wenger will play him in the Carling Cup anyway, so look out for a 80th minute booking at Villa Park.

Simple question. Who will score more points for this week only? Nani (WIG) or Gerrard (WHU)?

As Mark noted in a recent podcast the rules of the game forces you to live with your good early choices, when they have bad spell. Case in point: Malouda is priced at 10.4, I paid him 9.5 and right now I can sell him only for 9.9. That makes for pretty costly sub, anyway you look at it.

Would you like 10.4 instead? Plenty of us have sold him for 9.9
If you decided to buy him against he should be closer to 10 anyway.

Thats the wrong way to look at it.
You made .4 on him , move on and do the same with another player. Otherwise Malouda taking up a spot thats no longer adding value

I sold Malouda for a big hit and a few other yet still i have a player value of 107.5

urggghh...im really upset with Malouda...gave him 'one last chance' this weekend (instead of bringing VdV in). Goes to show that form is more important than fixtures.......
Hence...should i ditch him now for the dutchman, despite him having Ars away...?
(means i can upgrade Elmo to Kolorov as well)
    Cheers

Sutherland were 15-1 or so to win. Seeing Chelsea hadn't concede in 6 homes games in EPL, shock is an understatement.

i know...but Sunderland havent won away from home all season.
you'd expect/hope Chels would score at least once...
that midfield they played though...Malouda/Drogs got zero service...is that going to change anytime soon?

Hey guys, will definitely do Malouda>Nani this week, but have problems with my defence (Toure Vidic Jara Faye Elmo).
    What do you think?

    A.Elmo>Konchesky (4p)
    B.Elmo>Knight (4p)
C.play Jara (hope he returns into first XI)
D.play Faye (why wasn't he even on the bench?)

Don't like hits for defenders, but I might have no choice...

    Cheers.

Since west ham and sunderland have easy fixture comming up, can anybody suggest defenders from the two teams who are cheap, safe and nailed on starters.

Are you mad, why would you want to kick cahill and vdv out of your team, there inform player, and why rooney, i suggest you do drogba > elmander, and upgrade a cheap mid to nani.

Jis, wanted to know if you think it's worth keeping Tevez?

I was thinking of selling Tevez for Davies/Elmander and doing Ferg-->Nani. That will leave me with Fab/Nani/Adam/Nzog/Malouda/Davies(or Elm)/Drogba/Carroll for front 8.

But maybe I should just cut al my ties with Malouda instead?

Looks like I'm def taking my first 4pt hit this week. Cant carry on like this. Getting nowwhere with the underperforming "big boys".

I'd just sell Malouda, that's my opinion. Tevez is likely Rooney. If he scores a goal he gets 9 points for the week.
