Sunderland have the cheek to expose Chelsea frailties in front of the Stamford Bridge crowd, while Arsenal record a second away win in the space of four days, as Fabregas returns to the scoresheet and the Bonus Points. Here’s Sunday’s Scout Notes…

Sunderland’s outstanding Stamford Bridge victory saw them claim their third clean sheet in their last five. They have recovered from the 5-1 mauling by Newcastle with two strong defensive performances at Spurs and Chelsea. Nedum Onuoha (5.0) will earn all the attention within the back four after his stunning solo goal, but Titus Bramble at 4.7 or Phil Bardsley at 4.3, perhaps offer better value. Craig Gordon is another serious consideration in goal with his 4.5 price tag. The fixture list certainly promotes investment in the Sunderland squad. A home encounter with an Everton side struggling for goals comes next, that’s then followed by a very decent run of opponents, if you see past the trip to Old Trafford on Boxing Day (wol WHM ful BOL mun BLP BLA).

The Black Cats’ attacking assets also deserve consideration. Asamoah Gyan returned another goal – his fourth in three league outings and will deservedly attract the most interest. His priced increased to 7.2 in the FPL overnight and he will surely see a further increase in ownership as the days pass. One factoer here – we’ve yet to see how Steve Bruce incorporates the Ghanian with Darren Bent and that will be key to the potential of both players. The England striker could be back in Sunderland colours in the next couple of weeks following a hamstring injury.

Danny Welbeck scored his first league goal for Sunderland and produced a superb display which surely cements his role in Steve Bruce’s side. Ahmed Elmohamady remains out of position as a result, but unfortunately that position is now at the end of the bench. The Egyptian seems to have little chance of breaking back into the starting lineup given Welbeck’s current form. Currently priced at 5.2 in the FPL, we can expect Elmohamady’ 20% ownership to decline in the next two Gameweeks.

Florent Malouda was replaced by Carlo Ancelotti on 57 minutes, despite looking Chelsea’s most inventive player to that point. The substitution reiterates the rotation threat posed by Salomon Kalou; a factor that’s likely to remain for the rest of the season. That, and alarming form from the early season Fantasy darling, will surely cause another avalanche of FPL sales for the Chelsea man. We examined Malouda’s current form in detail in Foch’s Knee Jerk article last night.

Tim Cahill scored his sixth goal of the season on Sunday – his fourth in seven games. Cahill’s contribution has been key as David Moyes’ side continue to struggle for a cutting edge. They have scored just 6 goals in their last 5 league games with the Aussie contributing a couple in that total. With trips to Sunderland and Chelsea in the next three, Everton won’t find it easy to add to their goal tally and that could well temper any increased interest in Cahill.

Mikel Arteta was sacrificed for Yakubu on 68 minutes as David Moyes chased the game against Arsenal. A surprising move perhaps, but one that emphasises just how disappointing the Spaniard has been of late. While he continues to dictate matters, he tends to patrol deep areas in midfield and is offering little attacking threat. The Arteta vs Tim Cahill debate is a non-argument right now – Arteta’s stock is falling by week on week.

Seamus Coleman was restored to the starting lineup and completed the 90 minutes, shifting to right-back as David Moyes went gung-ho. Coleman’s lively performance which saw him look Everton’s most likely source of creativity in the first-half, should have cemented his role for the time being. That will offer reassurance for his Fantasy owners, although Everton and Coleman may struggle to find returns at Sunderland next time out.

Cesc Fabregas notched his second goal of the season at Goodison with the obligatory 3 FPL Bonus Points following on. That return will likely see further interest in the Gunners skipper with Fabregas is currently owned by just over 10% of FPL Managers. One sidenote that has to be a consideration however – Fabregas picked up his third consecutive booking on Sunday; he is now just one yellow card away from a suspension and it’s Spurs at home next.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Always worth a read isn’t it. I liked the one after the Chelsea game too, about it being really unfair to say we were a one man team yesterday - Nando played well too!

There is bound to be something soon Sammy C, he is just teasing us and making us wait.

I was disapointed with the Andy and Kevin one that someone did.

I was thinking that you could do a good Toon one from the POV of Ben Arfa. Carroll would be a hyperactive 10 year old boy, Barton a brilliant artist driven to violent rage by his mispercieved inadequacies, Nolan a model collector and war buff, Guiterrez thiks he is / may actually be spiderman, Perch is just a victim.....

I say Elmander, it is much easier to score in front of the home crowd, it is only a matter of time, and the next two games are the perfect opportunity to do it.

    Hi all,
This game really sucks if u intend to stick with Malouda and Drogba...

Drogba just doesnt look bothered. Who can replace them????

Providng a midfield consists of VDV, Nani, Adam, Fab. Who should replace Malouda?

Who is good enough to replace Drogba?

give drogba some time, but if you have a need to remove the fantasy king then keep an eye on a returning rooney. got wigan at home first up so could be a juicy fixture for united.

but first and foremost look at getting rid of malouda.. look at cahill, nasri, nzogbia the list goes on.

Have to say having watched the Arsenal match on Sunday that Cesc's frame of mind at the moment is a little worrying, he took his goal really well, but he appeared to be "bust heads" mode for the game, he was coming in late on alot of challenges and I actually feared for a repeat of that red card all those years back at Goodison Park. Now he is one away from a suspension and I have no doubt that he will pick up his 4th yellow card in a row against Spurs so that he can get the suspension out of the way before Man U and Chelsea.

5 yellow cards in the entire campaign last year, 4 this year in 5 games, Cesc needs a serious Chill Pill

Fair enough, bit in my opinion Cesc has always been a petulant player. I just think the refs have clamped down on him more this season. Hopefully Wenger will now tell him to stop doing that, because almost every single one of his yellow cards are unnecessary lashouts and late challenges.

I think he'll come good, although he obviously will serve a suspension at some stage.

        Morning,gents.This is my team:

        Foster,
        Mummy,O'Shea,Jara,
        Nani(C),Malouda,Fabs,Adam,
        Drogba,Tevez,Odemwingie.

        Subs: Krul,D.Collins,Coleman,Barton.(1 freebie,0.0 bank)

I had a horrible GW with just 35pts.(39-4) and got thrown out of the top 100k for the first time this season.Had taken the hit to bring in Tevez. The worst part, besides Tevez's flop show of course,is that I had made the transfers right after the GW 12 deadline had passed(to beat Tevez's price rise) and brought in Barton before he had even played(and got suspended). So now I'm stuck with the git when I have some other concerns like doing Malouda->VdV.It was a stupid,STUPID,rookie mistake of the first order. So now my question is should I do:

        a) Malouda->VdV and keep Barton on the bench for another week,or

        b) Should I do Barton->Jarvis/Lee/Parker etc. as well for -4? Or maybe,

        c) Do nothing this week and do Tevez->Elmander(if Tevez flops again this week) and Barton->VdV for free??Although then I'll be missing out on VdV's big score,if he has another one.

Sorry for the long post but please help guys.Any opinions are welcome.

VdV is up against Arsenal this weekend. It could be a high scoring game, but I actually see a 2-0 win for the gunners. Dont stress about getting VdV this week.

How about Tevez->Elmander this week, and then Barton->VdV next week?

Yes,I agree.Against Arsenal VdV will have a tough game.As far as Tevez is concerned though,I'm just not sure about selling him right after taking a 4 pt. hit to bring him in.I think I'll give him one more chance, although you are right.Elmander looks set for a big score in the next few weeks.

get Konchesky imo. He is nailed on. Kyriakos is not nailed on, and will definitely sit out games when Agger, Skrtl, Johnson, Carragher are all available.

Nani is far more important yes. Vidic is kind of a gamble from my side, as he has the possibility to have low, mid and huge scores. He always has his goal threat to save him, so I do think he might be worth the money.

              Foster, Gilks
              Simpson, Bosingwa, Stam, Crainey, Coleman

              Carroll, Berbatov, Drogba

              For a 4pt hit:
              Thinking:

              A)Arteta => Albrighton; Berbatov => Rooney => Carroll => Elmander
B)Arteta=> Albrighton; Carrol => Elmander; Stam => Vidic

Yeah, probably not many bolton fans as such!

I actually considered Jarvis/Lee this week due to their run of fixtures. Went for Nzog that paid off, but Wigan don't have such nice upcoming fixtures.

Lee not really a BP magnet is he? What's the story with Matt Taylor / petrov? Is petrov out of favour?

worth it despite the value loss? (suspect i wont be able to get Carroll back for a while for instance)

The value loss has been discussed a bit - maybe rather look at the profit you making and move on to the next bandwagon that will increase in value but also score(hopefully) some pts.

I am thinking Hernandez to Elmander this week. It was going to be Davies but seeing Elmanders goal convinced me. It also looked like Davies was working the flanks and providing the knock downs for Elmander to finish.

Other concerns are Mummy and Malouda.

That is a bit of a concern. My worry is he might be going thru a purple patch and the points dry up. At least with K Davies he will get BP and the odd goal and be more consistent. Isn't Davies on pens too?

I would drop Malouda for VDv and upgrade the def. Your def is pretty suspect, & quite a no. are rotation risks, ie Mummy, O'Shea, Coleman.

In theory Chelsea's fixtures shouldn't really matter. That theory has changed somewhat though over the previous weeks. I'm keeping faith in Drogs for now, want to see what a couple of weeks proper training again does for him. Plus, i'm taking too many hits.
