Sunderland have the cheek to expose Chelsea frailties in front of the Stamford Bridge crowd, while Arsenal record a second away win in the space of four days, as Fabregas returns to the scoresheet and the Bonus Points. Here’s Sunday’s Scout Notes…

Sunderland’s outstanding Stamford Bridge victory saw them claim their third clean sheet in their last five. They have recovered from the 5-1 mauling by Newcastle with two strong defensive performances at Spurs and Chelsea. Nedum Onuoha (5.0) will earn all the attention within the back four after his stunning solo goal, but Titus Bramble at 4.7 or Phil Bardsley at 4.3, perhaps offer better value. Craig Gordon is another serious consideration in goal with his 4.5 price tag. The fixture list certainly promotes investment in the Sunderland squad. A home encounter with an Everton side struggling for goals comes next, that’s then followed by a very decent run of opponents, if you see past the trip to Old Trafford on Boxing Day (wol WHM ful BOL mun BLP BLA).

The Black Cats’ attacking assets also deserve consideration. Asamoah Gyan returned another goal – his fourth in three league outings and will deservedly attract the most interest. His priced increased to 7.2 in the FPL overnight and he will surely see a further increase in ownership as the days pass. One factoer here – we’ve yet to see how Steve Bruce incorporates the Ghanian with Darren Bent and that will be key to the potential of both players. The England striker could be back in Sunderland colours in the next couple of weeks following a hamstring injury.

Danny Welbeck scored his first league goal for Sunderland and produced a superb display which surely cements his role in Steve Bruce’s side. Ahmed Elmohamady remains out of position as a result, but unfortunately that position is now at the end of the bench. The Egyptian seems to have little chance of breaking back into the starting lineup given Welbeck’s current form. Currently priced at 5.2 in the FPL, we can expect Elmohamady’ 20% ownership to decline in the next two Gameweeks.

Florent Malouda was replaced by Carlo Ancelotti on 57 minutes, despite looking Chelsea’s most inventive player to that point. The substitution reiterates the rotation threat posed by Salomon Kalou; a factor that’s likely to remain for the rest of the season. That, and alarming form from the early season Fantasy darling, will surely cause another avalanche of FPL sales for the Chelsea man. We examined Malouda’s current form in detail in Foch’s Knee Jerk article last night.

Tim Cahill scored his sixth goal of the season on Sunday – his fourth in seven games. Cahill’s contribution has been key as David Moyes’ side continue to struggle for a cutting edge. They have scored just 6 goals in their last 5 league games with the Aussie contributing a couple in that total. With trips to Sunderland and Chelsea in the next three, Everton won’t find it easy to add to their goal tally and that could well temper any increased interest in Cahill.

Mikel Arteta was sacrificed for Yakubu on 68 minutes as David Moyes chased the game against Arsenal. A surprising move perhaps, but one that emphasises just how disappointing the Spaniard has been of late. While he continues to dictate matters, he tends to patrol deep areas in midfield and is offering little attacking threat. The Arteta vs Tim Cahill debate is a non-argument right now – Arteta’s stock is falling by week on week.

Seamus Coleman was restored to the starting lineup and completed the 90 minutes, shifting to right-back as David Moyes went gung-ho. Coleman’s lively performance which saw him look Everton’s most likely source of creativity in the first-half, should have cemented his role for the time being. That will offer reassurance for his Fantasy owners, although Everton and Coleman may struggle to find returns at Sunderland next time out.

Cesc Fabregas notched his second goal of the season at Goodison with the obligatory 3 FPL Bonus Points following on. That return will likely see further interest in the Gunners skipper with Fabregas is currently owned by just over 10% of FPL Managers. One sidenote that has to be a consideration however – Fabregas picked up his third consecutive booking on Sunday; he is now just one yellow card away from a suspension and it’s Spurs at home next.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

After a fairly Ok start (compared to previous years) my team seem to be in free-fall, every time i buy someone they stop scoring, every time i sell someone they start!

    Here's my team:

    Cech(Rachubka - injured since forever, i know)
    Vidic, Kyrgiakos, Terry, (Simpson, Elmo)
Nani, Fabregas (C), Bale, Nolan, (Ferguson)
    Tevez, Elmander, Carroll

    0.7m in the bank

I've put Bale and Vidic in this morning, dumping Nasri and Ivanovic.

    Where to next?

I think another ManU defender would be a decent replacement for Krygiakos (not sure what i was thinking with that one) so looking at either Evra or the cheaper Ferdinand

Thinking about off-loading Elmo as well, but not sure who to swap for

    Any ideas?

Patience is a virtue. You are taking too many points hits to dump a player only to bring them back as soon as they have a good game. Youve taken a 4 point hit already, something which the top players try to avoid unless it makes mathematical sense to do so, dont lose any more points just to improve the peripherals of your squad. Bit less knee-jerking and a little more planning will see you getting more and more green arrows.

I think i'm learning albeit slowly with regards to making snap decisions and getting shut of players

I've had Fabregas for about 4 gameweeks now, and was ready to get rid after the second week or doing nothing, but holding onto him has brought in a fairly decent points haul over the past two gameweeks, hopefully with more to come.

Prior to my addition of Fabregas i had Drogba as (C) from the start - Started well but as the weeks went on he wasn't pulling in the points to justify the huge price tag, i kept him for what seemed like forever as he pulled in 2 and 3 point GW's and eventually got rid altogether

Anyone know whats going on with Alex? Brought him in a few weeks ago unaware he was carrying an injury and has been taking up space on my bench since. Is he expected back for the weekend or am I best of re-investing elsewhere?

Faced with a dilemma here. I want to bring in Fabregas, Gyan, Elmander and Nani for next gameweek but I don't want to spend 12 points doing it, but maybe 8 points.

So who to leave out til GW 15?

Gordon Krul (rotate perfectly.. 0.5 in the bank to upgrade to harper)
    A.Cole Vidic Coleman Shawcross Givet
    Fabregas VDV Nani Nzogbia Jarvis
    Drogba Elmander Carroll..

You know though the minute he scores his price is going to go mental. Tempted but will probably just get rid of Bozzzzzzzzzzzzzingwa. That scouse greek fella seems to be the likely replacement but will hold fire until the internationals are done.
I have efficiently destroyed Tevez by the way, he was doing wonders until I played a wildcard to get him in, since then he has been alternatively - homesick, injured and shite.

But I have Cashley, it will mean to much cash in defense. I am afraid I am gonna lose my balance. It means if I am going Kolarov ,can have N Zog, Jarvis... whoever has the fixtures. I think there is more potential for points.

On the other hand I want Vidic. Since the beginning I knew it that he is worth 7.0m It was cheap. But the problem is that I am positive on Man Utd conceding this weekend.

Platt also revealed Tevez, who has opted to remain in Manchester rather that head off to Doha for Argentina's high-profile friendly with Brazil, is still troubled by the injury that saw him fly home for treatment earlier this month.

"Carlos has a dead leg," he said.

"What happens when he plays is that it loosens off but unfortunately, it comes back again.

"The last 10 or 15 minutes of any game, when you have expended as much energy as he did in midweek, become very dangerous.

"The one thing we didn't want to happen was for Carlos to pull a muscle and be out for three or four weeks."

Why is every other international or friendly played in DOHA? Well I know the answer really, but I've never heard of the place except for hosting football games all the time.

I wouldn't say he is nailed on considering he has only played 1 game since injury & they have a lot of full backs. Pretty likely starter but not nailed on. That term does get overused a lot these days, lessening its meaning.

Thoughts on my team at the moment?

    Carson Mignolet
    Coleman Konchesky Jones Enrique Tamas
    Malouda Bale VdV Fabregas Barton
    Drogba Tevez Carroll

    Mignolet needs to go soon.

    Defence could do with strengthening.

    Barton is suspended.

I have both Bale and VdV.

Am I stupid to ignore these for now and do Malouda -> Nani this week?

    Any news on Carroll?

Thinkin of Acole->Vidic and Carroll->Elmander this week for -4.. If I bench Carroll , Morrison/Tamas will play instead

have to do it tonight as I would be left with 0.0 with the move.. have to sell cashley to make money

cashley to vidic is good but not worth it bcoz after yesterday's performance chelsea will be keeping a cs ag b'gham who doesn't score many goals...a.cole n get a assist n vidic might nick a goal so it isn;t worth it atm unless cashley is inj....but carrol to elmander looks good bolton has good couple of fixtures....

Carroll seems out this week for certain, can buy Elmander, make another 0.1 or 0.2 out of it and downgrade back to Carroll when I want to

gk - don't bench cech (it's waste ... his price tag)!!

def - you having 2 everton (not good selection) .... just bench coleman and gohouri

      mid - bench etherington

fwd - play all 3, doesn't matter IF carroll injured then on sub priority JUST put 1st etherington, 2nd coleman and 3rd gohouri

      cheers.

    Which defense do u prefer?

A:Cashley, Vidic, Konchesky, around 4.5 defender(Sun defender possible), Jara or

B:Cashley, Kolarov, Konchesky, around 5.0 defender(Coleman at the moment), Jara or

Option B will give more than 1m to upgrade in my favorite part of fantasy team - midfield.
