A change in tactics last season following Owen Coyle’s arrival at the Reebok has seen Bolton place more and more emphasis on a short passing game than the physical, long ball tactics of yesteryear.  Coyle has also demonstrated a willingness to trust younger, unproven players, giving opportunities last season to  loaners like Jack Wilshere and Vladimir Weiss, and relying heavily this season on a trio of young midfielders, Stuart Holden (25), Fabrice Muamba (22), and Chung-Yong Lee (22).  Not surprisingly, Coyle’s faith has paid off, with Bolton sitting tied for 5th and with the youngest of the group, Lee, currently having the most points of any Bolton midfielder.

While I touched on Bolton’s defense (or lack thereof) in last week’s Watchlist article on Gary Cahill, there has never been any question that Bolton’s attack remains the strength of this season’s squad.  The fleet-footed Lee has brought his stereotypical South Korean work ethic to the Trotters’ right flank, supported by the desire and ability to fit into Coyle’s more aesthetically pleasing brand of football.  Lee has thrived in this system.

In addition to 1 goal, Lee already has 5 assists from the first 13 games, picking up two assists this past week against Wolves, pressuring and attacking to create an own goal and then calmly laying off a short back pass for an easy Holden strike.  And, with Martin Petrov dealing with a hamstring problem and now facing a challenge from Matthew Taylor for minutes on the left side of the midfield, Lee emerges as the safe play in the Bolton midfield, and quite the bargain with his price dropping to its present FPL level of 5.2.

Lee is currently owned by only 1.8% of the FPL owners.  Similar to the recent discussion of Wolves and Matthew Jarvis, Lee presents a nice differential and an attractive new budget option who is deserving of an extra bump on your cheat sheet due to a favorable run of fixtures that sees Bolton facing NEW, BLP, mcy, BLA, sun, WBA in the next 7 gameweeks.

im pretty new to this game so would love some help please. heres my team:

    GK: Howard, Myhill
DEF: Jagielka, Ridgewell, OShea, A.Cole, Foley
MID: Nolan, Nzogbia, Gerrard, Obertan, Nasri
    STR: Chamakh, Tevez, Carroll

i was thinkin of gettin man u players in who will start. maybe nani and vidic in for oshea and gerrard. but my team seems quite weak anyway. do you guys think i have to use my wildcard at this point or can any1 suggest some good transfers? i would have liked to saved wildcard for a little later in the season

Wild card may not be a bad idea. Gerrard out 4 weeks, Obertan, O'Shea, Myhill non-starters. Chamakh has been streaky, and faces pressure from returning RVP and Bendtner. Always a tough call to WC esp with mid-year option this season. If you have two transfers pull in Nani for Gerrard and perhaps upgrade O'Shea to Vidic.

whats the mid-year option? ive been doing my team pretty quickly every week and just swapping 1 player. this week is the first time in a while ive had a good look at my team and its actually pretty poor. i only have 1 transfer so i was going to take a 4 point hit to do nani/vidic -> gerrard/oshea.

Oh ok. Looks strong to me, you know i wasn't keen on the timing but it's done now so time to make the most of it!

Not tempted to replace Drogba on your WC? Torres or Rooney perhaps?

Yeah..admittedly I have doubts on the timing too but just seeing too many red arrows - gonna try and grab the bull by the nuts.

Replacing Drogba has crossed my mind but I still have doubts over Torres and just a bit too worried about Rooney just yet. I'll have my two transfer next week thought if he comes out all guns blazing this week.

One suggestion, perhaps do foster > gordon. They're rotation over the next 13 weeks is very nice:

You have 3 rotation risks in bosingwa kolarov and coleman

Yeh I've been toying with teh defence a lot.

I've gone from having 3 heavyweights and 2 minnows to having a pretty consistent spread along the board. The good thing is Samba and Coleman rotate really well and Rovers have some decent fixtures next few weeks.

I'm pretty happy with the forward line..I can't bring myself to get rid of drogs and elmander and carroll seems to be the form players. Toyed with the idea of Gyan and Odemwingie but ultimately bottled it.

Both look like they'll start most games from now on.
The injuries to Richards and Lescott make this very likely for the next couple of weeks at least and I think they are both first choices - Mancini's signings and big money spent to get them.
Kolorov offers more of an attacking threat so I'd prefer him.

Like I said, I think both are first choices.
Richards is probably more likely to get some games ahead of Boateng, whereas Kolarov should start almost every games.
Throw in corners, the odd free-kick, and a hammer of a left-foot and I'd Kolarov is your man.

Is this your new wildcard team? No offence but I don't like it.

Ameobi - not a certain starter.

Wouldn't have both Drogba and Tevez in a wildcard team at the moment.

Have you considered Davies, Elmander, Gyan, Torres etc?

Would still have VdV over Bale.

Ferguson & Albrighton - one needs upgrading.

      Evatt???

      Needs a United defender.

This may sound weird, but your team is too strong. You need cheaper bench players to avoid selction headache every week.

1)Downgrade Cahill as you don't want to double up on bolton defenders. Jussi is enough. jara or foley
2)downgrade n'zog or jarvis to ferguson. you have to bench someone of your front 8.
3)that leaves you with money in the bank to upgrade your forwards if ie RVP is on fire in a couple of weeks.

Good afternoon chaps, chapettes and chappatis.
Going to hold fire on the Roonpig, there is a chance SAF could be pulling his usual porkies and will play him from the start but its too risky a biscuit to risk a 8 pointer on.
Instead I'm going for Bolton double trouble, Gilks is dead so in comes Jaask, Bosingwa goes for Knight to finance the upgrading of Gilks.
Not happy about a 4 point hit for a keeper/defender swap, but not really much choice unless I have Al-Habsi as my keeper against United away.
    Tough bloody season this.

u should not take a hit for a keeper bcoz even he keep a cs 6-4 =2 points so their is no need...

I will have to take a four pointer at some stage for Gilks - he is out long term and I cannot rely on Al-Habsi to do a job when his fixtures are mun, whm, STK, eve, AVL. Long term it is necessary.

Pity though, was dreaming of the smug scorn I could hit the jackals in my minileague with when Rooney appears out of nowhere to score 20 points.

Penalties are always a nice bonus for FPL players, but there may be a few players who are currently (at least potentially) on pen duty who may be soon to lose that luxury if not already...

    Nani (to Rooney)
    Nolan (to Ameobi)
    Fabregas (to Van Persie)
    VDV (to Defoe)
    Drogba (to Lampard)

I have got 4 of these players (not Nolan) and am concerned that their value may go down if losing pens. Anyone else think the same?

    Foster (Harper)
    Jagielka, Cahill, Konchesky (Elmo, Jara)
Fabregas, Nani (c), Van der Vaart, N'Zogbia (Nolan)
    Drogba, Carroll, Dembele

I'm going to get rid of Dembele soon, so I thought I'd give him one last run out at home against City.

    Hi guys,

Ive already transferred Malouda for Nani but wondered whether it was worth taking a 4 point hit to swap out a defender. These are my current options:

Coleman, Elmo, Gohouri, O'Shea and Williamson.

Im thinking of O'shea or Elmo out for Kolarov?

    What do you think peeps?

IMO it's never worth taking a 4 point hit for a defender, unless you wont have 3 fit and playing defenders otherwise.
