Hats and scarves on folks, we’ve one last roll of the dice in gameweek fourteen as Sunderland play host to Everton this evening.

This morning’s paper reports proved to be correct as Asamoah Gyan sits out with leg injury allowing Darren Bent to return to the team. Anton Ferdinand comes in for Sunderland’s rock – no joke – Titus Bramble, presumably having picked up a knock too. Everton are unchanged. Full teams follow…

Sunderland XI: Gordon; Onuoha, Turner, Ferdinand, Bardsley; Richardson, Henderson, Cattermole, Zenden; Bent, Welbeck

Everton XI: Howard; Neville, Jagielka, Distin, Baines; Coleman, Arteta, Heitinga, Pienaar; Cahill; Saha

The Dugout Discussion is open awaiting all of your yelps if your heart so desires.

Finding it hard to find a replacement for Toure. I need to get rid of him this week to fund Elmander in, Samba's fixtures coming up are brilliant but this week he's away at Man Utd. Salcido is another but not sure if he's nailed on?

Yeah it does seem risky. I'm pretty happy with my team, just I'd need to make two transfers to get in Elmander. Not sure if it's worth it tbh, do you think I could get away with not making a transfer?

I have the same forward line and kept Odem through his injury. But West Brom seem to have lost their way, and without Brunt, Odem looks much less effective. It has taken me too long to drop his and too long to get in Elmander.

Morning all. Finally decided to sell Drogs as my overall ranking is nosediving. Current team is:

    Gordon/Krul
    Cole, Vidic, Bosingwa, Coleman, Simpson
    Fabs, Nani, VdV, N'Zog, Adam
    Drogs, Carroll, Odemwingie

This week - Drogs to Tevez, Ode to Elmander
Next week - Bos to Kolorov, Adam to Nasri

    Any glaring issues with that?

I think you may be selling him at just the wrong time. Did you see the BHM game? He was immense and could have had a hattrick. Still if you want to improve your team it is a good way to find budget.

Problem is i,m not sure who to bring in now that arteta has scored and drogba looking sharp. Guess i,ll just tweak the defence and get rid of al-muhammady. Koloarov anyone?

It's a lot, but it's definitely catchable. I think almost anything up to 100 is catchable at this stage of the season. But at 30 there's no need to start making compromises by finding differentials. Just play your game and assess it a bit further down the line.

I think any lead up to about 180 - 200 points is catchable, as if you've managed to pull a lead of say 125 points out in 14 weeks, that can surely be hauled back in 28 weeks just as easily.

Easily, you could make that up in two weeks. At the end of last season people were catching up eachother by 60/70 points with only like 7 or 8 weeks to go.

          Exactly.

I would say that if you are 45 points ahead with one week to go, then you can rest easy. With 2 weeks left, a lead of about 70 points should be safe, and 3 weeks to go maybe 90 points is a safe lead.

It's surprising how quickly leads can diminish if you hit a bad patch of luck.

No worries, it does feel like he's been a bit lucky, as the odds are that when you yourself get a captain randomly not playing, it switches to someone with 2 points, whereas he gets 16 points!

He's finally gained from keeping Berbatov, as that's the best thing that the Bulgarian's done for him I'm sure, by not playing during the one week where he gains a lot from a captain switcheroo.

Kudos to him since firstly he has a strong squad so that if he gets injuries etc, then he has decent back-up, and secondly, he did well to set Tevez up as his reserve captain by presumably choosing 'Value/Price' over 'Form'.

Is there anyone here that has David Silva?

I had him for one week against West Brom, he's nailed down a starting place it seems but I find it worrying that Man City can score 4 goals, and he's not involved at all!

At least Drogba and Malouda have Chelsea's lack of goals in general, to blame for their lack of pointage.

Hard one to call - really impressed by him on Sunday. He's a terrific player who contributes big time to Citeh's offensive action but getting goals doesn't seem to be his job right now. I wouldn't be surprised if this changes in the weeks ahead and I'm sure he'll start picking up assists.

Damn, one week after my wildcard and I've already got major problems in my defence!

Steinsson = has he lost his place?

Coleman = Serious risk of him not starting now that Fellaini's back, or strong possibility of him coming off after 59 minutes as he isn't that great.

Bramble = Possible surgery so could be out for ages

*I know that Fellaini is primarily a defensive midfielder, and really it's Osman or Bily's place that he's taking, but that didn't stop Coleman being dropped to the bench for the Bolton game a couple of weeks ago.

          Exactly. Some people say this:

''I've just got rid of Drogba for Elmander.

Cue a Drogba hat-trick at the weekend!''

And if Drogba does score well, then they will point back to this comment, but if Drogba does nothing and Elmander scores, they will be saying what a great transfer they did.

These sorts of posts where people try to cover their ass, annoy me a little.

I see this sort of post ALL THE TIME, and it's so boring to look at; it really clogs up the page while you're trying to sift through to see the posts that are worth replying to.

People should have the balls to stand by their convictions, and hold their hands up if they got something wrong, like I did the other day about Bosingwa. I thought that he'd be nailed on, and told people on here that he would be.

Unfortunately, he isn't nailed on because he defends like a clown, so I admitted that I'd got it wrong.

Coyle is a very good man manager. He has the Martin O'Neill ability to get more than the norm out of his players. No matter what happens this weekend a Bolton player is a useful squad addition.

          Tevez AND Balotelli?!

I wouldn't since Sunday could just be a rare time that City manage to score a lot.

Having said that, Balotelli did well, playing alongside Tevez and Silva for 60 minutes against the Baggies, so it could be a decent move.

He's also more expensive, isn't on set pieces, and will make you lose value on Carroll.

The only thing Elmander has is better fixtures, and Carroll negates that by proving he can score anywhere. It's even debatable whether he has better form. Carroll has scored 4 goals in 6 games with 2 assists. That's only 1 assist behind Elmander in the same time period.

Hard to argue Camzy. I think people like getting the new prospect... there is so much appeal to catching to rising star and just as Carroll was in GW2. I got Elman in for a very low scoring Campbell. After this Bolton run I could see re-evaluating and perhaps going to Carroll for the long haul assuming he hasn't risen out of site. Perhaps someone else assuming Elmander is not producing.

My biggest mistake so far this season was absent-mindedly shipping Carroll out messing around with WC during a flurry of trades in GW7.

I have the common affliction known as "Which of my front 8 to bench this GW?" The only difference is my front 8 is distinctly average!
NZog (wh)/ Fab (av)/ Dempsey (BIR)/ Nani (BR)/ Arteta (WBA)
Carroll (CHE)/ Drogba (new)/ Piquionne (WIG)

I've narrowed it down to two; Carroll or Dempsey.

Piq is on his way next week, but surely he can do something at home to Wigan, with Alcaraz out. Dempsey also on borrowed time, so all the more reason to play him at home one last time...

    Maybe bench Carroll?

If you want a sideways move buy Simpson and grab the half million profit. If you fancy Blackburn's fixtures, Enrique out and go for Samba maybe?

Finally decided to sell Drogs as my overall ranking is nosediving and he has tough fixtures. Current team is:

    Gordon/Krul
    Cole, Vidic, Bosingwa, Coleman, Simpson
    Fabs, Nani, VdV, N'Zog, Adam
    Drogs, Carroll, Odemwingie

This week - Drogs to Tevez, Ode to Elmander
Next week - Bos to Kolorov, Adam to Nasri

It's not that I don't like him, and the Arsenal comment wasn't directed at you in particular. EVERYONE keeps saying it.

I just don't get why Elmander gets a lot of bad press saying that he can't keep up his scoring, yet Caroll scored 1 goal past Arsenal and he's a season keeper.

but i actually rate elmander more because he's been brilliant all year. if i had to choose over the 2 id pick elmander at the moment cause he's getting the high scores 15's etc.

i got carroll in after his hattrick but im looking at also getting in elmander. so them 2 and drogba. im giving drogba 1 last chance then wil go for tevez

Yeah, but he was still up there in the middle as he played Bale in.

I guess VDV is so greedy, that it doesn't matter where Harry actually plays him, he will still wonder into the box and score.

The players that are killing me at the moment are VDV and Bale, so as long as Spurs lose, without scoring, then I should do well relative to my rivals each week.

Thoughts on giving the armband to Drogba?

Newcastle may well have both first choice central defenders not playing.

    Just throwing it out there.

If it wasn't for the heroics of Foster. He would have walked away with some very tasty points indeed.

Check out my name - click link - you can read my take on Drogba. He looked good vs BIR and was very unlucky not to score. I think he scores vs Newcastle.

Are Aston Villa and Fulham just plain shit this season?

I think that I am calling the fixtures a bit wrong, by considering places like Craven Cottage as a tough place to go, but that's based on last season's results.

I need to recalibrate my season ticker me-thinks.

Fulham aren't too bad, just they've been done by injuries. I think Sunday was the first time they've conceded more than 2 goals in a game this year.

Here's to a 0-0 Fulham - Birmingham this coming week... Got to play Haangeland, as I got Samba and Konch at Man U and Spurs respectively...

Basically. They just can't score goals, Carew is out of favour, Agbonlahor is always injured and couldn't score in a brothel anyway.
