Hats and scarves on folks, we’ve one last roll of the dice in gameweek fourteen as Sunderland play host to Everton this evening.

This morning’s paper reports proved to be correct as Asamoah Gyan sits out with leg injury allowing Darren Bent to return to the team. Anton Ferdinand comes in for Sunderland’s rock – no joke – Titus Bramble, presumably having picked up a knock too. Everton are unchanged. Full teams follow…

Sunderland XI: Gordon; Onuoha, Turner, Ferdinand, Bardsley; Richardson, Henderson, Cattermole, Zenden; Bent, Welbeck

Everton XI: Howard; Neville, Jagielka, Distin, Baines; Coleman, Arteta, Heitinga, Pienaar; Cahill; Saha

The Dugout Discussion is open awaiting all of your yelps if your heart so desires.

I would hold off on those transfers. If you watched the Brum game you would've seen Drogba was quite... unlucky I'd say. His form is coming back most likely. And it's highly unlikely that Chelsea would lose yet again, that would be one of their worst runs in recent seasons. Keep the Drog.

Think he has till some time today to appeal. If unsuccesful - 3 game ban.

Surely he won't succeed in his appeal?

    a) Bale out for VDV no hit
    b) Malouda out for Nani, Bale out for VDV 4 pts hit
    c) Malouda out for Nani, Hutton out for Kolov 4 pts hit
    d) Hutton out for Kolov or Toure no hit

Firstly, I've heard that Drog was very good on Saturday. He could have scored a hat-trick if Foster wasn't having the game of his life. I think you'll regret taking him out in a few weeks. And go for option B, but spread it out over 2 weeks.

TM, do you thing VDV will out scored Bale in the long run? Is he fit to play like Bale? Lately VDV had been great but Bale was consistant so I'm leaning toward C), just so tempting to go with VDV though. 🙁

did Drogba > Torres, with the plan of getting Drog back GW20. Torres is facing some obliging defences in coming weeks but drogba v birmingham making me think it was a mistake..

Other strikers are Tevez Carroll. I might just rotate Drog/Torres/Rooney according to for, for the third. Will probably do it at the wrong times and miss out on tons of points though..

It doesn't really mean a great deal that Drogs played well if he isn't getting the lucky breaks. Even great players in though spells when they do everything but score.

Drogba's good game still ended up with just 2 pts to show for it. Tevez got a jammy goal for his 2nd against Fulham.

Tevez probably didn't do anything that much better than Drogba did against Birmingham. He was just fortunate that whatever he did got him goals and an assist, whereas whatever Drogs did somehow got saved or hit the woodwork.

This same thing was happening to Bale until a few weeks ago. He wasn't really playing any worse than he is now, but none of the breaks were going his way, so all he was doing was picking up 2's every week.

Sometimes its better to be lucky than good in this game.

Think people are making a bigger deal of Drogba's performance against Birmingham than they should be. Sure Chelsea had plenty of chances, corners and pressure but how much was that down to the situation of the game. If Chelsea had got an early goal Birmingham would have had to come out and attack rather than just sitting back trying to hold onto their lead.

Drogba didn't take any of his chances, he hasn't scored away this season, he costs £13m and he is recovering from a serious illness. I held onto him for far too long when I should have got rid. Would you captain him before GW20? Torres or Elmander are both good options for the next month.

        cheers guys, reassured!

Although its easy to just hang on Drogba with blind faith, I guess trying to play fixtures/form is of course what this game is all about.

And yeah you're right, probably not (c) materal until GW20 (too many pother options like Nani Tevez etc)

Gotta make transfer or two in Champ League. Piggy suspended and already have Nani, Pablo, Bastos, Gonzalez, Messi and Eto'o.

Bale and VDV seem a no-brainer but Nasri seems appealing especially with Arshavin out and game played tonight.

Also, shames me to say this but don't see Rangers doing anything against Man Utd, so worth a 2pt hit to Bring In Vidic or Evra? (I have a couple of injuries)

    Here are my options:
    1. Baines - Only 4 CS, but best assist rate
    2. Vidic - Set pieces, expensive
    3. Evra - Very consistent, attacking
    4. Konchesky - Cheap, will Liverpool lift their game?
    5. Other options?

Can't link your team on my phone so can't really see what the rest of your team is like.

I'm with Camzy on this topic. I was all set to get Vidic in last week just like about 90% of everyone else on here.

Then I stopped and looked at the fixtures and what I was realistically expecting from him or any other ultra expensive defender.

Truth is I think spending that much on anyone other than Cole is a waste.
Fulham defenders are much cheaper and still likely to keep a few cleanies over the same 6 game periode that Man Utd have.

Man City will be good defensive options all season long and guys like Toure and Kolarov will be starters all weeks barring injury.

If you have £7.8m to spend on a defender then I imagine that there are other areas on your team that you can spend the money on other than blowing the whole lot on a defender who is going to give you little more than 2 points most weeks.

We're not saying don't upgrade your defence.

But just think about whether you want to spend all of the remaining budget on a defender or if you can get a good one for about £6m or so and use the rest to upgrade other weak areas on your team.

One match suspension? If he gets suspended the Carling Cup will be the game he misses.

I don't want to get him when he is on 4 yellow.

4 yellows means nothing if he plays all his EPL games. Yellow cards vs Villa means he plays Fulham. We all know he will get a yelow vs Villa. He starts on 1 point this week. It's up to you if you want to miss out on his points.

Owh. This make some sense. But I have to do those 3 transfers to save out cash before getting Fabregas.

Oh well, you know what you have to do. Fabregas having 4 yellows should have no bearing on your decision. He will take a handball just to make sure he get the yellow. Hopefully it won't be in a similar place to last week. 😉

He may well do. Carroll may also rip up that Chelsea defence without Terry to keep him in check.

I don't know what's actually going to happen, that's for sure.

Nice team, Malouda & Bosingwa are the odd ones out. Having 3 Newcastle players plus these 2 doesn't help when they play eachother. I can see Malouda scoring well this week. Apart from that you team is ok.

      P.S. I am not Camzy

why oh why did i not go with my gut and sell malouda instead of arteta,

mind you having watched the match i find it hard to believe that arteta got 2bp, he didnt play that great, bad touches and generally out of the game,

clearly cahill was the most threatening for everton, scored one and had two efforts cleared off the line, even baines (2 assists and constant decent deliveries from the left) had shout at bp's over arteta

Wanting to do A.Cole to Vidic and O'shea to Toure.

    Sound good or not?
I can afford to do O'shea to Toure on its own. Just think A.coles time might be up.

      Tuchap,

I'd just do O'Shea to Toure, I reckon Cole will come good and is worth more points that Vidic.

He might be dead on FPL but on the Telegraph game (which I also play) he is still doing OK, the last two weeks he has had a "part clean sheet" for coming on and not conceding whilst he is on - worth 2 points in addition to 1 point for a sub appearance!

There is nothing worse (in FPL) than a 5 min sub appearance in my book. Especially when that sub's made in order to 'shore things up a bit'. Not only is it 1 point...you just cant get excited about the games he's in...!

        He's gone for me (hopefully)

Thought Bent looked quiet last night. So Gyan should be in with a shout this weekend. The problem is Welbeck's form...are they going to play Bent, Welbeck and Gyan away from home? Hope for you they do.

Im also hoping to do Elmo -> Kolorov. Really need no prices to change though...!

well tbh if i knew now hed even play 30mins in both games id keep him and bring torres in gwk17 as planned, have to do mummy to kolarov so gyan out is for a hit and dont see anyone that over the next 2 games would justify the hit

if hes out longterm and likely to drop in value quite abit he'll have to go tho

dont fancy doubling up on Bolton attack for this week? Get K.Davies in as well? Prob not worth it as mcy next up. How about Rooney for 2 week punt? Agree that not worth it unless Gyan confirmed out for a while

Agreed, I expected Cahill to get a BP or two.
As we suspected, FPL has a list of "BP darlings" who they automatically allocate BPs and assists to.

    Planned Transfers:

    GW15: None
GW16: Drogba to Tevez, Adam to MGP
GW17: Vidic to Kolarov, Carroll to Torres (4pt hit)
    GW18: KToure to Ferdinand

    Solid transfers?

They look good but planning that far ahead rarely works with midweek games, injuries and suspensions.
