“The times they are a-changin’.”

Bob Dylan, October 1963

This song was written almost half a century ago but Dylan clearly had what’s to come right on the precipice of his mind. That’s right, Johan Elmander is leading the captain’s poll. If ever there was a sign that times were and are changing in this Fantasy season, this would certainly be it. We’re not in Kansas anymore…

“Come writers and critics who prophesize with your pen, and keep your eyes wide the chance won’t come again.”

It’s taken him a fair bit longer than expected to settle into life in the Premier league, but alongside Chung-Yong Lee, Elmander is somewhat perversely proving Gary Megson makes a great scout if an ill-bodied manager. This season, under the stewardship of Owen Coyle, he has begun to flourish, much to the surprise of the many who had previously written the Swede off as a Premier League flop. With 8 goals, 5 assists and 13 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Bonus Points Elmander is the current value pick for the season and your lead candidate for the armband.

Evidently, following the lack of assurances the “obvious” picks have been able to provide in recent weeks – the next step in line is to play a bit more fast and loose and bank on a form player against a defence which is known for conceding the odd goal or two.

“The line it is drawn, the curse it is cast, the slow one now, will later be fast”

It’s not like this is some kind of runaway victory for Elmander though, evidence so far points to an incredibly close race with Nani a mere handful of votes in the wake of the Bolton striker, and with good cause considering his home form and the visit of Blackburn for him and his United cohorts this week. The news of Newcastle’s second string centre-back pairing sees Didier Drogba well in the reckoning for another crack at the whip as well.

Rafael Van Der Vaart, Carlos Tevez and even Wayne Rooney following his penalty at Rangers, are also well and truly in the reckoning.

If you’ve not let us know of your decision, or you’ve not yet made one, why not stew on it briefly and then head back to the frontpage and rock the vote. Make sure it counts.

“And the first one now will later be last, for the times they are a-changin’.”

Bottom line is, if you put a straight vote on for VdV or Silva it would be a landslide for VdV.

First Season, i'd be extremely thankful for any help.
Team in Link.. I do have one free transfer.. and the most pressing concern is to ship out Fabregas. I have just taken a single 4 pt hit thus far.. but would these transfers be worth it?
    Fabregas > Nasri
    Carroll> Rooney
I don't really see Carroll scoring heavily in the next 6, and Rooney has a decent run, looked sharp against Rangers and is as cheap as you're going to get him this season. I'd also be captaining Rooney; Nani might not get the whole 90 this week-end. Thank you for your patience.

In your case I think you have a good team and with the 2 big guns uptop already I don't think it's worth doing carrol to rooney this week for a hit. The other transfer looks good though.

Hmmm, If the Newcastle game is off, I reckon I'll get rid of Cashley and bring in Evra or someone. Leaves me with 3 non playing front 3 out of the 8, 5-4-1 formation, which includes some crappy players (Jara/Hutton) Hmmmm, Or perhaps get rid of Fabregas, but who for? I have Nani and VDV, also Arteta and N'Zog, perhaps actually get rid of Fabs for a cheapish player and get rid of Carroll (Dare I say it) for Tevez. Decisions Decisions Decisions.............

It's so obvious Jose is next up at United. Did you hear his speech recently? "Utd is a special club and it needs a special manager." SAF also loves him, and he has a clause in his Madrid contract saying he can leave any summer he wishes. Signed, sealed delivered.

Also lol related. SAF turned down arsenal before he joined Utd. Said they weren't a big enough club.

How right he was. I still prefer the Liverpool legendary captain Sir Matt Busby. Busby (LFC Captain) > Fergie < Roy Evans

If it's a 50,000 fine it is still pointless... The only way to hurt them is to throw them out or ban the players/manager for 3 matches for bringing the game into disrepute.. Not going to happen thou..

If they reinstate the yellow and invalidate the sendings off then that would be fair all round on their opponents in the knockout stage.

That's never going to happen. They should ban them for longer if anything.

Although there's part of me that can't stop thinking it was just smart tactics. Although the way they went about it was incredibly stupid.

Still doesnt gt away from the fact the a manager instructed 2 of his players to get sent off.. Surely they have to do something but as usual they will fudge it, just like the time they punished Eduardo for diving.. Then did a massive climb down..

At least they didn't hurt anyone in the process. Unlike Beckham who nearly killed poor old Ben Thatcher with his vicious assault against Wales...

I got so drunk from that Onions double. We had just started drinking and we said 2 shots and down a pint if its a wicket first ball. Couldn't believe it. Then had the same stipulation if he got another.

Considering Elmander is top of the captain's choices he might be a better bet for Carroll. Why are you thinking of getting rid of Carroll. I know he has a difficult fixture this week but he can be benched or is this injury doubt thing more serious.

The good thing about Newcastle is their ground is right in the city centre where there is a huge footfall. Normally games are called off not because of the pitch (all grounds have undersoil heating, Fulham just got it in the summer), but because of the surrounding areas that get iced over.
