Blackpool are reporting that the clash with Manchester United on Saturday is under increased threat of postponement as temperatures fell to minus eight last night. During the cold snap, large patches of the playing surface at Bloomfield Road have become frozen and last night’s spell meant that the problem has worsened.

Although the ground staff have been working throughout the night, with large hot air blowers and covering over the ground, the situation is certainly one that is causing concern. The club are keeping in regular contact with the Premier League and are going to make another official update to supporters via their website later today.

The news will come as a massive blow to Manager Ian Holloway who has been in a determined mood this week, in preparation for the Manchester United’s first visit to Bloomfield Road since 1974.

Blackpool’s reportedly frozen training facilities were certainly not enough to trouble the single-minded gaffer…

“We will be on the training ground tomorrow whatever the weather, but if it’s too bad and still frozen, then we will train on the beach if the tide is out. It is a luxury that we have in Blackpool. It’s flat and you can train on it. We tried to train down there last year during the bad weather, but it was frozen. Stanley Matthews was down there every morning when he played for the club and it didn’t do him any harm, did it? If the beach was good enough for that calibre of player, then it’s certainly all right for my lot.”

This potential of a postponement creates a massive dilemma for Fantasy Managers who have invested heavily in Manchester United players. Dimitar Berbatov has expectedly been transferred in by over 83,000 Managers in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game this week after his stunning five goal haul against Blackburn Rovers, and owners of the Bulgarian could be particularly frustrated. Nani has an ownership of 40.1% in the FPL and has been the top scoring midfielder this season. With Wayne Rooney back in bloom, over 31,000 Fantasy Managers have also opted to bring him into their teams this week.

It’s not just Manchester United’s stars that there will be concern over, Blackpool have been performing above expectation this season and many have opted for some of their cut-price players. Tangerines’ captain Charlie Adam has been in great form since their promotion to the Premier League notching up 69 points and is unsurprisingly owned by 17.4% of FPL Managers.

We can only wait on further news from Blackpool and hope that a decision arrives well before tomorrow’s Fantasy deadlines.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

I'd lose Nani if this match is cancelled.

With a bench of Elmander, Cahill and Coleman should I make that transfer?

lol I stress AGAIN. Bolton have scored in EVERY away game this season... 11 goals in last 3 games. Bench Kolarov. Chelsea have no confidence, Cahill will score as usual!

I'm happy for Elmander to play, but don't really want Cahill or Coleman coming in for 1 point each if any other games are called off.

Fortunately I've got nobody in the Sunderland game so I should be okay.

That Bolton stat could equally indicate that they're due a bad scoreless away game.

No need to transfer Nani out. Bench good enough to cover the loss of Nani this week.

Remember every Nani owner is now in the same boat and Nani is owned by an awful lot of fantasy managers.

    2. Anyone living in Liverpool, whats it like there?
    3. Should i insure my team against the united fixture by taking out albrighton and bringing in MGP, it would be my second 4 point hit (already done vdv-nasri and colemand-kolorav)

right now my bench is davies, simpson, albrighton

Sunderland game is definately in trouble, we've had an unbelievable amount of snow in the last 12 hours... it was -11 at 10 this morning. Hopefully the undersoil heating does its job..

I think the issue is the surrounding area of the ground. Blackpool doesn't have undersoil heating so the issue is the pitch there, i don't think there has been much snow (If any) in Blackpool and had there been that game would be a no no. Your game is all about the surrounding areas, and West Ham fans won't find it easy getting up there. I live 40-50 minutes from the ground and there has been a foot of snow over this week where i am.

Undersoil heating will be fine, the problem will be around the ground. Is the stadium in the city centre?

And that game is on Sunday so as long as there's no more snow (don't think any is forecast) it should be ok.

I think it probably is too much Blackburn tbh. Don't expect too many clean sheets from BIG Chris but he is an obvious threat at the other end of the pitch. I'm sure you know the risks associated with Dunny already.

We had a terrible Dec/Jan last season and barely won a game, although the fixtures this season are a good deal kinder.

I'm going with Tevez. Bolton's games this season have usually been fairly high scoring, and they always concede so Tevez should be a decent shout.

Yeah captaining N'Zog is probably worth a go... People could have (and actually have) done far worse than captaining N'Zogbia every week for the past 5/6.

But given how this season is going, if you do captain him, this will be the week that Drogba starts firing again, and N'Zog will do SFA.

Isn't it usually around Christmas each year where John Terry starts handballing in the area, making great blocks and saves, yet never conceding penalties for doing so?

    my team:

    hart
    skrtel/foley/vidic/sagna
    nasri/nani/n'zogbia
    drogba/tevez/carroll

    with a bench of elmohamady/nolan/ferguson

as nolan is injured and elmohamady is unlikely to feature from the start would it be worth transferring out nolan for a 4 point hit if the united/blackpool game is called off?

Honestly don't have a clue about how to improve my shitters this week, I feel that taking a point hit could be daft with so many games potentially under threat. However current thinking is Scouse Greek in place of Mummy and Nasri in place of Arteta, although I just heard that the disappointing Jagielka could be out for Everton so maybe I should ditch him too.

Humbugs to it all, at least the cricket is going well 🙂
