Blackpool are reporting that the clash with Manchester United on Saturday is under increased threat of postponement as temperatures fell to minus eight last night. During the cold snap, large patches of the playing surface at Bloomfield Road have become frozen and last night’s spell meant that the problem has worsened.

Although the ground staff have been working throughout the night, with large hot air blowers and covering over the ground, the situation is certainly one that is causing concern. The club are keeping in regular contact with the Premier League and are going to make another official update to supporters via their website later today.

The news will come as a massive blow to Manager Ian Holloway who has been in a determined mood this week, in preparation for the Manchester United’s first visit to Bloomfield Road since 1974.

Blackpool’s reportedly frozen training facilities were certainly not enough to trouble the single-minded gaffer…

“We will be on the training ground tomorrow whatever the weather, but if it’s too bad and still frozen, then we will train on the beach if the tide is out. It is a luxury that we have in Blackpool. It’s flat and you can train on it. We tried to train down there last year during the bad weather, but it was frozen. Stanley Matthews was down there every morning when he played for the club and it didn’t do him any harm, did it? If the beach was good enough for that calibre of player, then it’s certainly all right for my lot.”

This potential of a postponement creates a massive dilemma for Fantasy Managers who have invested heavily in Manchester United players. Dimitar Berbatov has expectedly been transferred in by over 83,000 Managers in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game this week after his stunning five goal haul against Blackburn Rovers, and owners of the Bulgarian could be particularly frustrated. Nani has an ownership of 40.1% in the FPL and has been the top scoring midfielder this season. With Wayne Rooney back in bloom, over 31,000 Fantasy Managers have also opted to bring him into their teams this week.

It’s not just Manchester United’s stars that there will be concern over, Blackpool have been performing above expectation this season and many have opted for some of their cut-price players. Tangerines’ captain Charlie Adam has been in great form since their promotion to the Premier League notching up 69 points and is unsurprisingly owned by 17.4% of FPL Managers.

We can only wait on further news from Blackpool and hope that a decision arrives well before tomorrow’s Fantasy deadlines.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

    Boateng-Coleman-Zhirkov (Simpson,Stearman)
    VDV-Nani-Adam-N'zogbia (Etherington)
    Drogba-Tevez-Torres

plan was Coleman & Zhirkov out Kyrigiakos & samba in but with the blackpool game in dout id only have 2 midfielders playing, go ahead with the transferes or take Vdv out??

Im transfering Elmo out, and I can't decide between Kyrigiakos and Samba. Both have good fixtures and are goal threats. Any opinions?

I have no Blackburn or Liverpool cover, and i can't afford Kolarov.

Why? Bolton have great fixtures and score 11 in 3 games. Also scored in all away games. Why waste 4 points? Tevez 2nd fiddle to Mancini's fav son, Super Mario...

Why? Because Tevez is by far a better player then Elmander. He plays for a better team. And he is on Pens. Tevez will outscore Elmander over the season, by a lot in my opinion.

Yeah, i also saw how Elmander got nothing against Blackpool, at home. Anyone can have a bad game, Tevez has good fixtures and should outscore Elmander. Also, you wouldn't really captain Elmander, you would captain Tevez.

Considering a little WC this week, as I've got VDV, Nolan and Jags injured, plus my United players possibly out... I'm not going to pull the trigger on these till 11am tomorrow, but any thoughts much appreciated.

    Foster - Hart
    Kolarov - A.Cole - Vidic - Kyrgiakos - Huth
    Bale - Nani - Nasri - N'Zog - Brunt (or MGP)
    Elmander - Tevez - Carroll

I'm thinking of keeping Nani and Vidic despite the possible postponement, as I'm going to want them again next week (and for any double GW). Is it worth leaving a bit of extra money aside to get VDV back in soon?

    Cheers.

u have too much invested in defence

if u have vidic cole kolarov and kyrgiakos go for foley or simpson instead of huth

also downgrade foster and play hart most weeks

youll then have the cash to bring vdv in when u need him

If you'vve got Hart you play him everyweek. So you may aswell downgrade Foster to a 3.9. Or as you have Kolarov, get rid of Hart for Robinson, Gordan etc...

You've got too much money in your defence in my opinion, and id only feel comfortable captaining Tevez or Nani, not enough captain choices in your team.

Any other big-hitters worth angling for, then? I shipped out Drogs a couple of weeks back.

To be fair, with a lot of the big hitters out injured or with unfavorable fixtures, your team is good. But you'll want a Rooney, Torres or Drogba as soon as they score a few.

Judging by this quote from the above article

A further update to supporters will be made later in the day via the club's official website.

I think we will hear later on today. I reckon it will be on especially as it is the 5.30 kick off and is on TV.

im sure theyll do an initial inspection in the morning before the FPL deadline. This should give a strong indication. Apparently the last chance for them to call a game off is 90mins before the game though so wont know for certain i guess

Kind of hoping Blackpool is off. Looking at their next 4 fixtures, I can't see much for Varney. So if it's off, I might sell him. If it goes ahead, I'll keep him but that may be for a string of 1 or 2 pointers.

    Team ID: 1665396

Currently thinking of getting rid of Coleman and Elmander, and I also have VdV but I think I'll just hold onto him. Or is that a luxury? Besides, I need to take some safety measures if the United game is off.

A 4 pt hit this week would give me (new players in caps)...
    Foster (tot)
Konchesky (AVL) | Kolarov (BOL) | Vidic (bpl) | SAMBA (WOL)
Nani (bpl) | N'Zogbia (STK) | Nasri (FUL)
TEVEZ (BOL) | Carroll (wba) | Drogba (EVE)
SUBS: Hahnemann | Enrique, Ferguson, Van der Vaart

For this team, I would be doing Coleman and Elmander OUT, Samba and Tevez in? Is there any sense in making this for a 4 pt hit, or should I get rid of VdV instead?

My team ID is at the top of this post, so if anyone would care to give some advice, I would be very thankful.

I think having Samba is a good idea. As for Elmander or Tevez... Thats a tough one because both have strong fixtures. Im in the same boat, I think Ill hang onto Elmander this week and if Drogba doesnt do anything again Ill bring in Tevez for him

so assuming Man Utd v Blackpool gets called off, is it worth taking 8 point hit to transfer out Nani and Vidic and bring in maybe Sagna and Essien as otherwise I would have Coleman and Tamas coming in off the bench. Then I would bring back Vidic and Nani after this week

adam and coleman out, MGP and kolarov in...4 point hit. Removes the doubt of me having to play coleman if blackpool vs united is called off...

would you maybe just do coleman to kolarov?...thing is i'm not playing adam anyway so am thinking the 4 point hit would be worth it??

Nasri or Malouda for Van der Vaart ?

I'm a bit biased towards Malouda since most of my rivals got rid and they all have Nasri/Arshavin.

Or take a gamble on Kuyt ?

The replacement for VdV is a tough choice. We have the Arsenal route who have tough fixtures after this week, MGP as Blackburn have good fixtures but its still Blackburn. Bring in Bale is another option. Molouda is playing with a team not playing well, not in form and have tough fixtures. Liverpool great fixtures but Kuyt is hardly is a great fantasy option.
