Blackpool are reporting that the clash with Manchester United on Saturday is under increased threat of postponement as temperatures fell to minus eight last night. During the cold snap, large patches of the playing surface at Bloomfield Road have become frozen and last night’s spell meant that the problem has worsened.

Although the ground staff have been working throughout the night, with large hot air blowers and covering over the ground, the situation is certainly one that is causing concern. The club are keeping in regular contact with the Premier League and are going to make another official update to supporters via their website later today.

The news will come as a massive blow to Manager Ian Holloway who has been in a determined mood this week, in preparation for the Manchester United’s first visit to Bloomfield Road since 1974.

Blackpool’s reportedly frozen training facilities were certainly not enough to trouble the single-minded gaffer…

“We will be on the training ground tomorrow whatever the weather, but if it’s too bad and still frozen, then we will train on the beach if the tide is out. It is a luxury that we have in Blackpool. It’s flat and you can train on it. We tried to train down there last year during the bad weather, but it was frozen. Stanley Matthews was down there every morning when he played for the club and it didn’t do him any harm, did it? If the beach was good enough for that calibre of player, then it’s certainly all right for my lot.”

This potential of a postponement creates a massive dilemma for Fantasy Managers who have invested heavily in Manchester United players. Dimitar Berbatov has expectedly been transferred in by over 83,000 Managers in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game this week after his stunning five goal haul against Blackburn Rovers, and owners of the Bulgarian could be particularly frustrated. Nani has an ownership of 40.1% in the FPL and has been the top scoring midfielder this season. With Wayne Rooney back in bloom, over 31,000 Fantasy Managers have also opted to bring him into their teams this week.

It’s not just Manchester United’s stars that there will be concern over, Blackpool have been performing above expectation this season and many have opted for some of their cut-price players. Tangerines’ captain Charlie Adam has been in great form since their promotion to the Premier League notching up 69 points and is unsurprisingly owned by 17.4% of FPL Managers.

We can only wait on further news from Blackpool and hope that a decision arrives well before tomorrow’s Fantasy deadlines.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

Agreed. imagine if he was on penalties at 4.8M... A regular Ameobi / Carroll... Though I do wonder if he'll be that much better value than the likes of Piquionne, Odemwingie, etc. who have performed well this year.

Not sure. I am going to transfer out just one of VDV or Arteta today and not sure which one. May keep the other to transfer out next week. Wonder who will lose their next 0.1M quicker? Arteta since VDV has already lost 0.1M this week?

Decisions, decisions but only for 0.1M really so no big deal...

May drop Arteta first only because VDV is someone I want long term anyway so if I don't get around to dropping him, and I still own him, it's 2 less transfers to do (OUT / IN) whereas I don't really want Arteta long term at 8M or so...

Elmo to either Kolarov (if you don't mind doubling up on Man City def / keeper) or Konch / Kyriagkos.

Fletcher and Modric don't do very well in FPL, get rid of one of them for someone like Nzogbia, Dunn, Gamst Pedersen, Brunt.

Oh, and you need Nani in there (maybe not right now cos the game might be called off, but soon.)

Same boat. Arteta's fixtures are amazing after his suspension but he could lose 0.2M or so - but he's only owned by 3% of managers. VDV owned by 25% so could lose more than 0.2M over the next 3 weeks but could also return quicker? Interesting... I may have to get rid of both. Arteta today and VDV Saturday or Sunday... just not sure when they will fall next.

Even when Arteta's back he'll still be playing as deep as he was before... unless people think Moyes will push him forward when Cahill's out?

If he returns in the same role he left then he's not worth £8+M

Definitely get rid of Arteta - even when he's back from suspension you won't want him... wish I'd never got him in the first place! Gave him one more week and he repays us with -2pts... planned to get rid of him this week for Pedersen before he was sent off - do that!

And I for one am holding onto VDV...

Yes I will get rid of Arteta first though -he's guaranteed out 3 matches whereas VDV could make a miraculous comeback after 2 league matches...

I think there's normally pitch inspections around 9.30am, and then again at 1pm if it's borderline. They normally try to make an early firm decision so as not to upset travelling fans. So I reckon we'll have a pretty good idea at 10.30ish.

    Foster
    Konchesky Kolarov Vidic Jara
    Nani Nasri N'Zogbia
    Drogba Tevez (c) Odemwingie

Solid team, yeah? Have Cahill, Lee and Coleman in the bench so unless the Utd game is called off and Odemwingie isn't fit, then I'll be able to field 11 decent players this week. No glaring errors here???

    Good day all,

I have hit a tight spot with my team this week, do I risk it and play all five of my defenders??? 4 of the 5 are playing at home, with Vidic (vs Blackpool) being the only one playing away...

    Hart
Vidic, A Cole, Samba, Onuoha, Konchesky,
    Nani, N'Zogbia, Gamst Pedersen,
    Carroll, Tevez

Subs: Elmander, Cahill, Van Der Vaart

If not 5 defenders, who to rest? I would play Elmander over Cahill this week, both have tough fixtures.

I have been told to bench Onuoha even though he's playing West Ham at home, would you agree with that statement?

I only have Nani too. Sadly, I also had VdV and Fabs, so now only Bale and N'Zogbia in my midfield now.

Wanted to keep Fabs for when he comes back in a week or so but wondering whether it would now be better to just swap him for Nasri tonight and keep VdV on my bench until he returns.

Let's face it, VdV will probably outscore Fabs over the long haul as he scores more goals. And Nasri will still get decent points when Fabs is back. Plus I can always get Fabs back with 2nd wildcard.

And Fabs probably won't be rushed back especially in cold weather, will he?

      What do you reckon, guys?

Hello. I'm up to 21st in the scout league woo hoo! Sorry for the mini gloat.

Things are going good BUT with Arteta sent off, VDV injured and Coleman displaced from the Everton side I think it may finally be time for my wild card. Thoughts on this WC team:

    Robinson/Begovic
    A.Cole/Rafael/Kolarov/Kyrgiakos/Foley
    Nasri/Bale/Nani/Gamst-Pedersen/Brunt
    Tevez/Bent/Carroll

That would leave me with 3.8 in the bank to play with. Only issue is the big freeze screwing me over.

Whoops just heard the United news. Maybe leave Rafael out for big Samba? I'm not getting rid of Nani, too much money made on the premier league's best player this year (IMO).

I have Vidic, Nani and Adam in my team. They can go on my bench but it means that I have no subs for the games this weekend. Is it worth spending 4 points to replace Adam just in-case one of my starting 11 doesn't play?

        Foster

Cole A / Samba / Ridgewell / Williamson (who I am going to replace with my free)
        Cahill / Bale / Malouda
        Carroll / Davies K / Elmander

        Bench - Reina / Vidic / Nani / Adam

        Bank: 1.7

Not all doom and gloom. The game being called off could be a blessing in disguise with two massive games coming up in the next two weeks?

My rival in my work may be struggling. With a team consisting of Nani, Vidic, Adam, VdV, Coleman, and Elmo.

      Yassssssss!

Bent and Malouda still gives you Chelsea cover but with the Chelsea player more likely to score goals now in your lineup! 😮
