Chris Hughton has “parted company” with Newcastle United this afternoon with the club announcing that the board “now feels that an individual with more managerial experience is needed to take the club forward.”

Hughton’s departure follows an appalling run of form, covered in depth on these pages over the last 24 hours, that culminated in Sunday’s 3-1 defeat at West Brom, a display which ultimately proved the final straw for Newcastle’s board.

Inevitably Martin O’Neil’s name has been put forward as a potential replacement although the club have however stated that the search is yet to begin…

“The task of appointing a new manager now begins. An announcement will be made shortly regarding transitional arrangements pending the appointment of a successor.”

In Fantasy terms the impact is likely to be restricted to the effects on striker Andy Carroll who is owned by over 50% of Fantasy Premier League Managers. Carroll’s form has been maintained throughout Newcastle’s poor run of results and if the new manager can successfully find him a strike partner, that should be beneficial from a Fantasy perspective. A switch to 4-4-2 and a change of system may well reduce Kevin Nolan’s potential however.

Depending on the successful candidate, things may also improve defensively and, with starting roles in the central area up for grabs, a new broom could bring changes in with Sol Campbell, Steven Taylor, Fabio Coloccini and Mike Williamson all vying for two positions.

It’s all pure speculation right now of course, but a change, whether you agree with the decision to sack Hughton or not, should alter the tactics and shape in place in the Newcastle ranks, reseting the potential of some mid-price Fantasy assets along the way.

In the short-term, it will be interesting to assess the reaction of players and fans to the decision when Liverpool arrive at St James’ Park this weekend.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    AM I MAD?
Thinking about Transfering Malouda for Torres for tonights game. My Daily Mail team is
    Cech
    Almahamady Cole Bale Kompany
Malouda (C) Nani Cahill Nolan Nasri
    Tevez Berb
Only one transfer left till end of Dec. Risky as players may get long term injury in Champions League games. But it could be inspired as Torres would automatically become captain and Malouda may get a ban and even if he doesnt surely Torres will outscore Malouda in short term given run of fixtures.

If you think Malouda will be suspended, then maybe it's not a bad move. Bit risky though. I haven't seen the incident, so I'm not sure anything will come of it.

I think personally I'd wait until I knew someone was out before using a transfer, especially if you've only got 1 for the end of December.

Thanks JoeWasEre, I was thinking about doing it before hearing that Malouda might be suspended.
An alternative could be to use my last captain change on Malouda to Nani next Monday and then keep my last transfer to transfer out Cahill when hes off to Asia, to maybe VDV. i''l be gutted then though if Malouda is banned!!!

Scholes has never won anything because he's never been the best play in the league, let alone the world, at any point in his career.

Zidane has won the most World Play of the Year awards today, and he was a midfielder. Cannavarro won it recently too.

The best striker Rio Ferdinand says he's ever played against is Emmanuel Adebayor.

I'm not saying Scholes is bad, I'm a huge fan. But he's just never been THE best player in the country, that's all. Unless you can think of a period where he was.

However, I like hard tacklers. The only thing better than a great tackle that wins the ball, is a Xavi like through ball, or a bale-esque cross!

This doesn't make sense. You talk about Xavi and Iniesta like they are the same player. They are both individuals and both had good calendar years.

And for the record, I thought Sneijder's performances at the World Cup were overrated. He didn't actually play that well and basically all his goals were down to luck.

Yeah it seems to be a decent idea and I'm definitely warming to it..

I could do it without taking a point hit, but with the whole transfer rollover system, there isn't really such thing as a free transfer.

And if Tevez falls 0.2, definitely possible, then I'd actually make money!

You'll lode a fair a bit of value and brains! Why the hell would you just waste two tranfers on tevez specially when their are injuries popping out and I am sure far bigger issues in you team? Just bench him and ride it out man.

If he plans to do Drogba to Torres anyway, then it's only actually the one extra transfer...

Snoochie - what price did you buy Tevez for? I only got him for 11 (he's now 11.2) so if he falls just once I'll lose nothing.

Nothing, I was being silly earlier when I was talking about taking a point hit... Don't know what I was thinking to be honest!!

BUT, like I said, with the transfer rollover system, there isn't such thing as a free transfer, unless I don't take another point hit until the second wildcard, which in reality is never going to happen...

Do you see what I mean? Although the transfer won't cost me 4 points this week, it will in the future when I inevitably make 2 transfers one week.

I do, i do and i partly agree with you BUT i think if you considered any move with that in mind, the only thing you get out of it is a headache

the way to look at a move, in my eyes, is every transfer is worth 4 points basically, will this make me more then 4 points, i think its worth the risk!

Yes, he should just do that then and use the other to perhaps replace simpson or albrighton and play 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 instead of just using two transfers to get tevez out and the n bring him in and losing much value on him.

Strongly disagree. His team is well set up to make the move. No injury or suspension worries. Even if next week you need to take a 4 point hit for whatever reason its worth it because Drogba could easily get a big score this weekend, and i would rather have him starting then have Tevez on the bench.

It is a risk, but one worth taking in my opinion. The only reason i wouldn't do it is if i wanted to get Fabregas back in for the Stoke game which would require 2 transfers. But im slowly convincing myself to leave him out until the next wildcard.

i understand the "waste two tranfers on tevez" but thats not what im doing! im changing my line up from drogs to torres long terms and doing it in a wat that beenfits my team for 2 weeks, rather then hurting it!

have you seen torres upcoming fixtures, if he can stay injury free it could bode very well for him, and me!

Torres and "injury free" is about as likely as Osama Bin Laden converting to Christianity. Torres gets injured blowing his nose (and he accidentally bumps into Van Persie, who is also injured as a result).

You can do it in the Daily Mail game as long as you stick to one of five formations. Mids score 8 pts for a goal strikers get 5 ponits. malouda and Torres around the same price.

i saw them. everything i said holds true though. Theyre still Irish peoople, that jsut havent been as lucky as you with their parents. pyjamas accents education and no money, take those facets away, and youve got your sister, or your cousin, or whoever you know that was luckier than them. I admire people like that who know theres such snobbery in this country (one of the reasons ill be living in america), yet still express themselves and what makes them happy. Its a wonderful trait. people are so judgemental in this banana republic of ours it sickens me.

Have a long think on what im esaying.

That phrase, -'horrible underclass', wouldnt be applied to them if they helped you after being knocked down by a car, or lent you their phone if you had an emergency. You wouldnt use it would you? No , you wouldnt. So be a bit more mature, and dont fall into the Irish snob /self-hating trap.

and i mean whashsssh liek Irish people stupidly do, instead of pronouncing the fcuking word what. you k now what i mean. Maybe you dont do it.

whatever, have a think on what im saying.

Yeah fixtures are ok, and Foley will never keep a cleanie even if he does score or get an assist.

Jara has got a bit dirty recently though, he's on 3 yellows too.

Apart from Man U, Bardsley has ok fixtures.

Just trying to figure out what transfer to make this Friday. Probably going with Tevez > Torres or Adam > Cahill though.

The 2nd number is off the FW facebook page from reading comments. I think it's still the 1st number.

Is everyone thinking of keeping Tevez?

For me theres no outstanding fixtures next week so no point getting rid of him really...

Is Huth the best Stoke defender to get?

Really no point for just one game, wouldn't do anything at West Ham anyway IMO, he adores them.

Cheers - He stays in my team.

I hope Barton is back for this weekend or I might have to think about getting him out.

Barton -> Albrighton might work if hes back

Can't be ars... bothered scrolling back, but why have I got three more points than yesterday? Can't call up my team for some reason - keeps crashing - but has Bale been given that assist? Or Freddy 3 well-deserved bonus points for his stunning 20-minute cameo?
