After three-and-a-half months out injured, Chelsea talisman Frank Lampard returned to the substitutes’ bench, and ultimately the pitch, during today’s London derby against Spurs. Whilst his game time was limited to 15 odd minutes it was refreshing to see the midfielders return from a football and Fantasy Football perspective.

Lampard hadn’t played since August when he underwent a hernia operation and then tore a groin muscle during his recovery. At first Chelsea looked able to cope without their goalscoring midfielder but performances have stalled and Chelsea have been looking a team in disarray.

Fans of the Blues will hope that Lampard’s return provides a fillip to the teams performances which during his absence have bordered on tragic. Considering that Chelsea have managed only 1 win in their last 8 matches in all competitions, any boost will be welcomed.

His inclusion on the bench was a surprise and the word from Carlo Ancelotti was that he was going to be short for the massive trip to Spurs;

“No, he’s not fit again. He’s out. I can say this with a smile because he trained well but it will be a very tough game against Tottenham and we didn’t have a test with him in a game.”

Usually Ancelotti is pretty candid and honest with his team selection calls so for Lampard to appear on the bench after these comments was a huge surprise. Was the Italian looking to provide a psychological boost to his players?

Unfortunately for Chelsea Lampard’s presence didn’t provide them with enough to get all three points at White Hart Lane – something they should have collected if it weren’t for Didier Drogba’s late missed penalty. One things for certain the miss from the Ivorian will surely see Frank Lampard back on spot kick duties.

Given the random nature of Fantasy Football this season and the lack of consistency amongst the so called big names and expensive players, the return of Lampard should create a nice differential for those players trying to find a way of clawing back deficits in their respective leagues.

If the midfield man can reach form of seasons past he will surely see his ownership rocket back up to the levels seen at the start of the season and during the past few years. A lot will depend on how Ancelotti eases him back into the team and on how Chelsea’s form improves, but a player who almost certainly guarantee’s goals and assists will be hard to ignore.

Yaya I think, I was pondering going for him for this week and obviously regret not getting him in. But the last two games he has been brilliant for City, I'm really not keen on Balotelli in the slightest, Silva looks pretty good but out of the three Yaya.

I disagree. The stats suggest he's not good value, but throw Liverpool's fixtures into the pot and he's almost a must have.

After 16 bad weeks i decided captaining Drogs would be a massive differential.

Saw he was benched, hoped he would stay there, 1st and 2nd subs got 6 pts.

There was a long discussion last week where several well known posters on here agreed that it was time to sell Carroll because they rather started a bandwagon than joined one later.

Hopefully they didn't sell him, and I for one am not until he loses form.

Form is the most important part of this game, it's often even more important than quality and almost always more important than fixtures.

And if it was not enough already you don't even get much money from selling him.

True- I think that I probably will keep him, he seems to be the central figure for Newcastle (like bent for sunderland and Milner for Villa in 09/10).

I guess I'm just thankful I got on the wagon sooner rather than later..... 😀

                🙂

I think it's the right move. Only consider selling him when it looks like his form is fading, that is what I will do.

The great thing about Carroll is that (as he showed last season) he is the focus of ALL Newcastle attacks, so would always be in the goals and assists. A player like that at 5m was a cracker of a bargain - if we manage to stay up Lord knows how much they'll make him next season, surely around the 8.5 mark?

So long as we have the likes of Barton to deliver the ball to him he should still be a bargain. Apparently there is a good chance that Ben Arfa could be back as soon as January, really hope to see him back. Pardew has said he is going to do his best to seal a permanent move - that would certainly make me feel a little better over the whole travesty.

8.5 would be my guess as well.

And I would have a long look at him at that price too, if thing were looking the way they are this season.

He probably couldn't stop scoring right now if he tried.

It's the first evidence of a decoy bandwagon driven by a patsy, a new tactic devised to divert the attention and make them see a move which isn't there. I bet the original bandwagon driver who set off from the station never finished his journey.

When is it best to use your wildcard? I usually use mine in the first few weeks to ensure my team is sort of the best to be picked, but this year I have held onto it, should I continue to until there are double fixtures or use it now.

I can tell you when is the worst time to play it, because I played it then!
It's a great commodity if I still had it I would bank it until some of the big players show the kind of form that you would expect, being able to bring in the likes of Fabregas or Lampard later would be a hell of an asset.

How about this then: Next season we join the game AFTER the first gameweek instead?

It will be incredibly much easier to pick a good side and you'll have your wildcard left to play later and there is a fair chance you won't be that much behind anyway since people will have had the wrong teams anyway. Genius, eh?

I must confess it didn't look like it to me having viewed it a few times. But it may have done - but certainly not to an extent that it signifiantly altered the speed or direction of the ball. Should be an assist, according to the rule book.

Wait and see what Mancini has to say first. Depends on who you plan to bring in for him, but his red [i] should disappear now he's served his suspension and he will become price-protected - so you shouldn't have to worry about a price-drop in the meantime.

You can see why they did it though.. Bolton are one of only a few teams that playing with two genuinely front men at the top, and theory behind playing 3/5 at the back against two forwards is solid.

They did the same against Carroll and Ameobi and no one was mocking them after that game.

Yes, I do like Allardyce. Bite me.

had a think about this and.... it does make sense. it's still stopping the other team at the expense of a bit of your team's attacking threat, but away from home against an a good bolton side it makes sense. i guess fat sam played for a draw with anything more like a break away or set piece winner a bonus
