So Sam Allardyce was sacked? That’s odd. Onto bigger and better things undoubtedly for all; and to cheer us up from this solemn news is none other than a top of the table clash between Manchester United and Arsenal. Perfect Monday evening entertainment.

United revert to their 451/433 formation which has been a success in recent games against Arsenal, five goals in his most recent game isn’t enough for Berbatov to convince Fergie to alter his tactics. Everyone’s favourite tongue teaser Wojciech Szczesny starts in goal for Arsenal as his compatriot Lukas Fabianski fails to pass muster, Cesc Fabregas is only good enough for a place on the bench. Teams in full are…

United XI: Van Der Sar; Rafael, Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra; Fletcher, Carrick, Anderson; Nani, Rooney, Park

Arsenal XI: Szczesny; Sagna, Koscielny, Squillaci, Clichy; Song, Wilshere; Nasri, Rosicky, Arshavin; Chamakh

Whether you are a red or a red, or a neutral, the Dugout Discussion will be open for the evening to take in this battle in full flow.

Alright so that caps off a pretty bad GW, saved only by Chaz Adam coming off the bench for me. Pity he's banned next week.

I'm thinking of doing a reshuffle in my defense. Have been looking at fixtures, City have 9 nice games over the next 12 (through to GW 29) 7 of those at home. Liverpool the same, 9 good fixtures, 6 of them at home. United would be my next best bet especially with the double GW 24.

Basically I'm thinking of keeping Coleman and Begovic, and flooding the remaining 5 spots with 2x City, 2x Liverpool & 1x United. Already have Konchesky, Kolarov and Boateng.

Who are the best candidates from these teams? I'm thinking of Van Der Sar (Vidic too expensive, Rafael not guaranteed starter), Skrtel, and Toure (if Boateng keeps getting rotated).

Van der Saar doesn't get many save points. I'd keep the keeper combo you already have: Foster and Begovic. Foster has more points than VdS.

You will probably only play 3 defenders most weeks so just play Kolarov and one or two of Konchesky, Clichy or Coleman.

You could look at getting a Sunderland or Blackburn defender in there instead of Boateng. They have nice fixtures coming up and you can confidently use them as your 3rd defender when they have home games as they are good value for a clean sheet.

However the money you have invested in Clichy suggests you either play him every week or get rid.

so sick of hearing arsenal say it's anti-football everytime they lose to anyone other than barca. they played like shiite, didn't create anything except a half chance all game and were outmatched tactically, accept defeat.

I like to have players who are guarenteed 90 minutes and dunn certainly isn't a guaranteed starter. Dunn was a punt who didn't quite come off, if he does score big at least no one really has him anyway.. Put it like this, im more confident in gerrard than dunn..

He mentioned that there was alot more average players than days gone by.
Which is measured by how close the league table is and how erratic teams results are.

And whether its correct or not it cant be judged based on one game between United and Arsenal as the acid test is the overall table and results over a long period 😉

More average and sub-average players in the so called top teams.
Honestly I really cant see why AP or anybody else could possibly deny or be affronted by it, Newcastle of 1996 is a hundred times the side of 2010, Manchester United of 1999 or even 2008 were considerably better sides than todays.

Besides since when did you become the middle man and reasonable voice? Shoes on various alternate feet here! 🙂

That has absolutely zero bearing on looking statistically at a player who could be a good FPL signing.
Besides in real life Yaya Toure is considerably better than Anderson, Fletcher, Park, Song, Denilson, Rosicky etc etc etc. He is 'better' than average, so roll away old bean.

    A) Baines

    F) Balotelli

    Currently leaning towards E) Cahill.

Sounds good in theory, would be a brave move! But yeah City do have this reputation of being defensively pretty solid and Everton seem to be struggling for goals lately. But knowing football cue a 3-0 away win.

My other niggling thought was Nani, up against A.Cole might have a frustrating evening...
Also Balotelli might not even start!

I'm not sure, I'm starting to think an Everton cleanie is more likely than a Cahill goal, the City defence is pretty aerially strong

i can see where that feeling comes from, but doesn't Cahill always perform vs the big clubs, i.e. as the underdog?

Wenger should start RVP regardless of whether Chamakh's fit.

Fabregas is rushed back into the fray time and again, while RVP is having the longest convalescence in football history.

I suppose he has his reasons.

No of course they weren't!!!!! You think Allardyce is just going to chuck a 18 year old kid in to play centre half against Drogba if he had any other choice? Both Nelsen and Givet were out so we had to play Jones and Olsson in defence.

Maybe a little over the top. In some games he has and others he's been average. If we had a fully fit squad i doubt he'd play quite as often but we lost Grella, Andrews and last seasons player of the season N'Zonzi so he's had to plug a gap in CM

What's up with N'Zonzi? Is he not available at the moment, because he wasn't playing at the start of the season even when he was available.

I thought he was excellent last season.

Hamstring i think but he's been on the verge of returning for a couple of weeks. Not sure if he's training again.

I think the problem pre season was that Allardyce sensed a bit of a big head developing on N'Zonzi. Not sure if they worked out their differences because he's been injured for the last couple of months. Certainly missed him though

Scottish and Welsh fpl managers are beating English fpl managers at the moment on average. Everton have the best fpl managers on average and Chelsea have the worst fpl managers on average so far. Although its not an equal amount in each catagory still maybe some interesting deductions from all that. Ahh there are only 6889 Wigan fans but they are beating 597301 ManU fans on average. Lots of interesting stats in this game.

After a really good start on Saturday(22 points from 3) i was expecting to get a fair bit more than 23 from the remaining 7 including captain.

On another note, i'm a bit surprised Nani's assist wasn't given, it wasn't that much of a deflection?

haha I agree with every word of that. I live in Carnoustie and there are constantly those cliquey twats down at the course. But the alternatives are pretty thin on the ground this year. McCoy and Taylor are the only worthy alternatives in my eyes but horse riding and darts are even bigger jokes than golf.
