    access to some of the worlds best physical trainers, the worlds best manager, phenomenal skills coaches, 50 odd grand a week, only 45 minutes gone so he wasnt tired.....and the fcker delivers a free kick like that. it didnt even have power! It waas a complete non-event- he wasnt even trying somehting else.

      Whether he was shooting or not is irrelevant. The ball was deflected by a defender and that's why it hasn't been given. The issue for me is that I'm not convinced that the deflection altered the course of the ball all that much.

      No, I don't think it was an assist.

      From the replays I saw Nani was having a shot on goal. The deflection sent it 90% the other way.

      And, yes, I have Nani in my team.

    the rule : "If during this pass, an opposing player significantly alters the speed or direction of the ball"

    the speed was not altered significantly and the direction was not altered significantly....therefore

      Direction was altered, he intended to shoot at the goal, it ended up taking a wild deflection and going into the middle of the box.

          Deflection off keeper is fine; the FPL rules explicitly state it. Bale's assist was 100% legit (unfortunately)

    Don't understand the FPL assist rules. An assist should be given if a team mate is the last person to set up your shot.

    Doesn't matter if you ran 40 yards or 5 yards. Shouldn't matter if it took a deflection along the way, as long as he somehow gets the ball to you.

        Intention to cross or shoot has nothing to do with it - a shot turned in by a team-mate still counts as an assist.

        The Bale assist was a mistake on the part of FPL as it rebounded off a defender (some similarity to Nani's in that respect). Asa a Nani owner I hope they make the same mistake again - but can't complain if they don't (but probably will just for the fun of it)

      From the FPL website rules;

      If a goalkeeper does not have control of the ball and parries a shot or drops a cross or the ball rebounds off the woodwork, the attacking player shooting or crossing the ball receives the assist if a goal directly ensues.

      Thems the rules, stokesy. Don't shoot the messengers.

      Arsenal were pretty dreadful, which is a shame because I was looking forward to a good game. Once again, they get bullied out of playing and clam up. Fletcher's a good player, but he shouldn't be allowed to dictate midfield as much as he has done.
