Carlos Tevez’s future at Man City and his prospects as a Fantasy heavyweight have been cast in serious doubt by an incredible series of off-field events over the last 24 hours.

Tevez, who has notched 10 goals and 4 assists this season, has rocked Manchester City by slapping in a transfer request – a story which broke late on Saturday evening. This was then followed by a confirmation and rejection of the request in a bold statement from City, in which they revealed Tevez as the “highest paid player at the Manchester City Football Club” and appeared to cast blame on the players’ agent, Kia Joorabchian, insinuating that the move could be fuelled by the desire to agree a new, improved contract.

This claim was quickly refuted by Tevez himself, who issued a counter statement on Sunday evening which stated that his relationship with “certain individuals” was “beyond repair”.

Added to this, there are also reports suggesting that City had previously attempted to convince Tevez into remaining at the club by offering him a £5 million one-off payment – outside of his contract. According to the reports, Tevez turned this down, stating that money was not the issue; the club has failed to reject these claims.

It’s an extraordinary chain of events and a very public argument, which appears to make Tevez’s situation at the club untenable, placing his prospects as Fantasy option in severe doubt…

The striker is owned by over 25% of Fantasy Premier League managers who must now be pondering their next move with a striker who has amassed 94 points and holds a current value of 11.1 having started the season with a price tag of 10.5. That value dropped for Gameweek 17 in the light of his suspension that saw him miss the trip to Upton Park this weekend. There’s now the real prospect that it will go on declining, unless Fantasy Managers gain some assurance that Tevez will still be a factor on the pitch for City.

There’s clearly huge doubt surrounding that. While City’s statement stressed that “The door remains open for Carlos to be selected to play”, Roberto Mancini will be faced with selecting a player who, despite his unquestionable value to the side, is certainly troubled, unhappy and possibly demotivated following Sunday’s developments.

The City statement, and the retaliatory response from the player , has opened up wounds that could require significant time to heal before Mancini can begin to make plans for involving Tevez. In addition, despite stressing that Tevez has no ill-feeling towards his manager yesterday, there have been several incidents in the past few weeks to suggest otherwise. Most recently Tevez’s reacted badly to his substitution in the 1-0 win over Bolton.

Tevez was given “special dispensation by the Manager to take leave overseas” but has not travelled back to Argentina. The reports suggest that his representatives have stated that the player had been given insufficient time to go home and return in time for training.

Tevez has previously stated that his absence from his two daughters and his wife back in Argentina is a major problem. The player has even hinted that he may consider retiring from football in order to be re-united with his family. It is widely suspected that he will look to seal a move to Spain in January, in the hope that his Spanish speaking wife will join him.

For now however, City are insistent that Tevez is going nowhere. He is due back in England in the next 24-hours and further developments will surely follow.

Fantasy Managers can only sit and wait and hope that the air can be cleared sufficiently to get him on the pitch for the weekend clash with Everton. Right now that looks a rather unlikely prospect, but press conferences this week, prior to City’s Europa League tie on Thursday, will surely give us more to go on.

Tevez has been removed from our Watchlist player rankings pending tomorrow’s full refresh.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

A friend of mine in our paying mini-league was around 100 points behind me a few weeks ago. He's been on a brilliant run lately and is now around 30 points behind me. On Saturday he got 39 points from 3 players, captain included.

He got 8 from Silva and 18 from Baines captain. He played Tevez and I was amused until I saw that Yaya is his first sub with 13 points. He also has Foley coming off the bench with 5 points and has three players playing tonight. I'm a goner....sigh...

That is indeed the question mate. I think the two next Sunderland fixtures will reveal more info. Why not keep hold of him for now, and look at Malouda and Drogba instead? Your other defenders can fill any gaps Elmo might create.

This saga will ruin them imo- they have no serious replacement (balotell's a mug) and the way they are treating him will dissuade a lot of top footballers from taking the eight pieces of silver.....

I dissagree actually. I think like Chelsea found out at the start of the Oil years, you have to be smart - not just throw money at footballers and expect them to like the club. I don't expect Balo to last long there either after the example Tevez has set but they have an unlimited transfer fund remember. I can't see Torres behaving like this for example.

You speak like Tevez came through the United youth set up like Rooney did, oh wait...

Tevez never went to City to spite Fergie, he went there because United couldn't afford him and City could.

I feel sorry for the fans, its not their fault he cheated on his wife and she walked out, holding him to his contract won't work as he would happily retire.

Nasri is a footballer that came from another club much like Gallas did, its not the same as Ashley Cole or Sol Campbell who were part of the system.

Tevez owed United no more loyalty then he did to West Ham.

Wonder will Torres do anything this weekend? was planning on bringing him in for Drogba but Liverpool and Torres aren't playing too well so is it really worth bringing in Torres who is out of form in for Drogba, even though he is also out of form. Torres loves playing at home, they have 3 in 4 to come, I want him in my team, especially in light of this Tevez nonsense, I wanted Tevez aswell, so it is all made a little easier, or is it?!!!

          Not too bad now, yourself?

Was going pretty well on saturday, had 22 points from 3 players, didnt go that well yesterday including Drogba, like yourself. On 37 with Nani(C) and Nasri left so its still ok.

You had planned to bring him in yes? what about Torres?

Well I'm not sure, you never quite know these days. I just think that if they leave him the captains armband then they are expecting him to continue leading on the pitch, if they give it to someone else then surely there would be a public announcement before their next game?

Things change, money talks, fans soon forget as long as he tries and scores (and Tevez will do both if he's on the pitch). If I had to bet, I'd be putting money on him playing again for City, as petty as it currently is.

He got it on Metro game anyway, will come off today I'd say, and I will go from 22 to 21 and drop another 10,000 places probably as a result, 65,000th to 93,000th this weekend, painful, I do have "2 goal Rooney" (C) (as he will be known as after tonight), Nasri/Nani and Vidic to play though

Transferred Tevez out this week for ballotelli with the plan to get him back in this week. Still thinking of doing it, until he's actually moved I think he will still play. Coupled with the fact he's been on about missing family etc for a while and still been performing pretty well.

    What are others doing?

Soave - don't know who stocks it in Sweden, but Fratelli Martini are by some distance the best bulk producers ...

Bruce does not seem to like Da Silva much so he will probably put Elmo in at right back and Onuoha in the centre. Either that or move Richardson to left back and Bardsley to right back. I'd keep hold of him for now if you have him.

    opinions early and often!

allowing for potential weather-related changes, i'm listing my current team. RMT, please!

    al habsi (jaask)
alcaraz / foley / konchesky (cahill jagielka)
    nzog / nasri / nani / vdv / cahill
    elmander / torres (c) (drogba)

basically backing wigan at home and throwing bolton and everton's away defense under the bus. also, i'm on the fence about drogba v tim cahill. drogba's been poor-ish but a home game against united might get the blood going...

    thoughts appreciated!

the one transfer that i was thinking about was switching cahill out for yaya, basically going for the home win over cahill getting anything at eastlands. i think cahill has 3 games left before he's off to asia (yes?), and with recent comments about yaya playing forward in an attacking role and tevez on the fritz, maybe yay's worth the risk?

i'm thinking, though, that leaving myself with 2 transfers next week may be the shrewd thing to do, especially if fabs or lampard comes back with any sort of form and i need to make 2 moves to afford one of them.

      compelling both ways imo. others?
