Carlos Tevez’s future at Man City and his prospects as a Fantasy heavyweight have been cast in serious doubt by an incredible series of off-field events over the last 24 hours.

Tevez, who has notched 10 goals and 4 assists this season, has rocked Manchester City by slapping in a transfer request – a story which broke late on Saturday evening. This was then followed by a confirmation and rejection of the request in a bold statement from City, in which they revealed Tevez as the “highest paid player at the Manchester City Football Club” and appeared to cast blame on the players’ agent, Kia Joorabchian, insinuating that the move could be fuelled by the desire to agree a new, improved contract.

This claim was quickly refuted by Tevez himself, who issued a counter statement on Sunday evening which stated that his relationship with “certain individuals” was “beyond repair”.

Added to this, there are also reports suggesting that City had previously attempted to convince Tevez into remaining at the club by offering him a £5 million one-off payment – outside of his contract. According to the reports, Tevez turned this down, stating that money was not the issue; the club has failed to reject these claims.

It’s an extraordinary chain of events and a very public argument, which appears to make Tevez’s situation at the club untenable, placing his prospects as Fantasy option in severe doubt…

The striker is owned by over 25% of Fantasy Premier League managers who must now be pondering their next move with a striker who has amassed 94 points and holds a current value of 11.1 having started the season with a price tag of 10.5. That value dropped for Gameweek 17 in the light of his suspension that saw him miss the trip to Upton Park this weekend. There’s now the real prospect that it will go on declining, unless Fantasy Managers gain some assurance that Tevez will still be a factor on the pitch for City.

There’s clearly huge doubt surrounding that. While City’s statement stressed that “The door remains open for Carlos to be selected to play”, Roberto Mancini will be faced with selecting a player who, despite his unquestionable value to the side, is certainly troubled, unhappy and possibly demotivated following Sunday’s developments.

The City statement, and the retaliatory response from the player , has opened up wounds that could require significant time to heal before Mancini can begin to make plans for involving Tevez. In addition, despite stressing that Tevez has no ill-feeling towards his manager yesterday, there have been several incidents in the past few weeks to suggest otherwise. Most recently Tevez’s reacted badly to his substitution in the 1-0 win over Bolton.

Tevez was given “special dispensation by the Manager to take leave overseas” but has not travelled back to Argentina. The reports suggest that his representatives have stated that the player had been given insufficient time to go home and return in time for training.

Tevez has previously stated that his absence from his two daughters and his wife back in Argentina is a major problem. The player has even hinted that he may consider retiring from football in order to be re-united with his family. It is widely suspected that he will look to seal a move to Spain in January, in the hope that his Spanish speaking wife will join him.

For now however, City are insistent that Tevez is going nowhere. He is due back in England in the next 24-hours and further developments will surely follow.

Fantasy Managers can only sit and wait and hope that the air can be cleared sufficiently to get him on the pitch for the weekend clash with Everton. Right now that looks a rather unlikely prospect, but press conferences this week, prior to City’s Europa League tie on Thursday, will surely give us more to go on.

Tevez has been removed from our Watchlist player rankings pending tomorrow’s full refresh.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Baines is looking like a decent option but when Arteta is back he's no longer on set pieces, Kygriakos is also a decent option but Agger is targetting a return next game and it might be wise to wait and see how secure his place is.

Doesn't it really all depend upon whether Tevez is on the pitch? If he is then they have a decent chance if not then I'd be putting bets on 0-0.

As I said earlier I'll wait and see what City do with the captaincy - if he is stripped of it then surely he wont be appearing for them again, if not then he will be. In the latter case you could have a good shout there.

Not to be a bitter lemon but if it was up to me (and it really should be) I would do away with the auto subs and especially auto captaincy. Lets jammy buggers who pick injured players get off the hook.

I think almost everyone on here would agree with you Atilla, it's just that the unfairness that you describe isn't a side-effect, for the FPL, it's the reason that these things exist.

There is auto-subs and auto-captaincy so that, if a casual player leaves their alone for a few weeks, then comes back, their points total for the year hasn't been totally gutted. So your logic, though I agree, will never convince them to change it.

the one transfer that i have been thinking about for this week was switching cahill out for yaya, basically going for the home win over cahill getting anything at eastlands. i think cahill has 3 games left before he’s off to asia (yes?), and with recent comments about yaya playing forward in an attacking role and tevez on the fritz, maybe yaya’s worth the risk? it gives me 4 mil in the bank to use to upgrade VdV to lamps or fabs next week.

i’m thinking, though, that leaving myself with 2 transfers next week may be the shrewd thing to do, especially if fabs or lampard comes back with any sort of form and i need to make 2 moves to afford one of them.

    compelling both ways imo. others?

I've been watching Yaya Toure the last few weeks and he has been Citys best player by some distance, looks a very good FPL prospect so I think he is worth a go.

That was without Tevez, and mostly without Balotelli too, I fear he's going to be back to being quite hit and miss when either of them are playing, and for the money I think you're better off with a BP hog from a lesser team - Adam/Zog/Ethers etc

            Murmuring -
He isn't that far up the pitch in an OOP sort of way, originally I (probably like a good few others) discounted Yaya Toure as I thought he would be too defensive a midfielder, the same way I wouldnt pick Essien, Tiote or other similar players. But he doesn't seem to be shackled back there, he seems far more box to box, and seems to have overall influence on the game. I must say I have begun to like him as a player, I'll have a good look at his stats but I would love one of the nice articles showing heatmaps etc

worth bringing yaya in for nzog this week, then?

that would allow me to drop cahill for a cheaper option next week and bring in fabs/lamps the week after.

This is the day most Gooners have been waiting for Attila, the other 2 clowns have been there because they are older but this lad is better then both and the reason he only wanted to sign Schwartzer simply to be a stop gap IMO, hopefully he takes his chance because the other 2 need to be as far away from the starting eleven as possible.

Yeah he looks a right prospect, and I know he is highly rated by your Keeper coaches etc. Big match to throw him in but really considering the alternatives Wenger has nothing to lose by trying him out.

He went to Brentford last year after their season started and ended up winning their player of the year which speaks volumes, it's a big step up but he has all the qualaties that the other 2 don't, he commands his box and organises his defenders, that is half the problem for the other 2 as both are decent shot stoppers but it's not all about that, I'm very confident he will pull it off tonight.

Seriously though, I reckon he could be in line for a few starts in the coming weeks. I think Mancini is starting to realise that Milner is a pile of wank.

I'm also tempted by Yaya Toure, but he'll most likely be playing DM next week with De Mong suspended.

Or I can do, Drogba > RVP, Lee > Silva.

I would leave me with a midfield of:

          VDV Nani Nasri Silva N'Zogbia

In a couple of weeks. Unbelievable flair.

The biggest injustice of this whole Tevez situation is that it's robbed us of the most reliable option in the Citeh team!

Their fixtures are so good! Perhaps Kolarov will be enough, but I somewhat doubt it.

Mucho twatter talk about Johnson possibly going to Newcastle on loan, dont think we really need him if Ben Arfa gets back next month. By then I hope my midfield would be
Nani, Nasri, Ben Arfa, VdV, N,Zogbia, Fabregas, Lampard, Yaya Toure, Malouda and A.Young.
            F*ck the rules.

Ben Arfa may be a good option, but i wud rather have barton or Alby after the the wildcard, N'zogbia is a chump, for fabregas you have to be in contact with his hammy's 24/7 if you get him, lamps is gone, malouyda isout of form and Young is just not consistent enough along with Villa.

              There you go,less headache 🙂

You really do love Tevez don't you?! To be honest, I don't really know what the fuss is all about. He's nothing more than a very good player who works hard in my eyes.

Because City finised fifth behind Tottenham last season, and won precisely nothing. Oh, and Argentina didn't live up to expectations in the World Cup and were embarrassed by ze Germans.

                  its a team performance....

england prove that every time they step on the pitch

if city didn't have tevez last season or this season they wouldn't be anywhere near where they are now...

and in terms of argentina now maradonas gone and cambiasso and zanetti are back in the team there playing how they should be playing whooping spain recently 4-1

Wenger will want him fit for the Chelsea game, and may deem it as more important (Probably not), so he doesn't want him playing 30 minutes not fully fit and going of injured against Man U and then not being able to play for a few more weeks, he won't play him tonight, however if they are really chasing the game late on, he will come on, or maybe if they are cruising 3-0 (Unlikely) then he will come on for some game time. The way I see it anyways, even if he is fully fit, he won't be match fit (There's a difference) so won't start tonight.

right, enough of Tevez, I want to turn my attention to Gary Cahill.

I've listened to Mark on the subject, I've seen his OPTA stats about blocks, tackles and goal attempts and each week, despite poor opposition he gets me 1 or 2 pts. Not even a bonus anymore. And now I see he is rising in the watchlist.

This love affair with Gary Cahill must end. My relationship with him is over. This week he departs my team to be replaced with samba...someone who has good opta stats but more importantly delivers in terms of fantasy pts.

Looks like we're not getting the Carroll Assist-boohoo

      Hi there

Thanks for your email - we appreciate your feedback.

      From the rules:

"These are awarded to the player from the goal scoring team who makes the last pass before a goal is scored.

"If during this pass, an opposing player significantly alters the speed or direction of the ball, then no assist is given except if this intervention directly results in an own goal."

No assist was awarded for Newcastle's 2nd goal against Liverpool. Skrtel's touch was significant enough to change the direction of the ball before the ball fell to Barton.

The Press Association provide all the data for our games, and we will pass your comments on to them.

However as it states in the rules:

"Neither we nor the Press Association will enter into any correspondence relating to the allocation of points to players."

      Regards
      FPL

Granny might phone them yet. So stay hopeful.

My theory is that at some point today Elmander will get the yellow card that he got yesterday, and at that point, Carroll will either get the assist or not get the assist. Just my opinion.

            And.....

Until someone gets a reply with a detailed response, rather than the copy and paste jobby they gave you, there's still a chance he'll get it.

When my brother complained about Etherington's 'assist' a few weeks back, he got a copy and paste jobby, and then they still changed it the day after.

I've watched it again, and again (and then a few more times). Although not obvious at first, Skrtel definitely gets a touch - but to say it's a significant one is stretching the truth a little. But now they've looked at it that should put the issue to bed.

I'm thinking 2-0 to Man United, because Robbie Savage said Arsenal 2-0. I'm thinking of putting an extra large stake on Man Utd. Anyone who isn't a Man United supporter think they will win?
