Time once again for our Members to lose themselves in some weekly OPTA stats, as we investigate some of the standout numbers and performers from Gameweek 17.

The following article is produced using the Gameweek snapshots of the OPTA stats which we hope to have available to Members as a BETA this weekend or early next week. Keep ‘em peeled for news on that over the next few days.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'm struggling to make a decision this week.
What do you think of this pair of transfers (no points hit):

    K Davies -> Rooney
Tim Cahill -> Yaya Toure or Brunt

I can't afford to get Rooney without downgrading somewhere else.

I was just about to say the same except about Cahill.

He has Birmingham at home next week. Why so desperate to get rid? I don't like either of mleanord's transfers.

I guess my problem is who to bench this week. I'll probably wait on Rooney but I have a feeling that he may play well (and score) against Chelsea.
I don't believe Cahill will get many points at Man City.

i'd go for yaya, hes got good fixtures and after last week i think he'll be pushed forward more and 5.2 is a bargain. i think the chelsea game is made for rooney to make his comeback complete and win the pissed off fans back.

Hey, I'm thinking of swapping out Drogba for Torres in my Sky Sports team.

Here is a doozy of a question for ya:

Torres FUL, blp, WOL, BOL, bla, EVE
Tevez EVE, new, AVL, BLP, ars, WOL
Drogba MUN, ars, BOL, AVL, wol, BLA

    Torres
PROS: Great fixtures, 4 home games in 6, two winnable away games
    CONS: Poor form, lacks sharpness

    Tevez
PROS: Good fixtures, always likely to be in the goals. Good form
CONS: Man City dont score many, biggest con - will he play and if so will he play 90?

    Drogba
PROS: Bad fixtures for next two but then dramatically improve. Has scored in his last two games, looking sharper.
CONS: Not looked at his best although improving, Chelsea not playing particularly well. Chance Lampard could take some set pieces off him?

Overall I think I want to get Torres in, his fixtures are too good to ignore, I have the other two (and Carroll) so I wonder who would people see as the more expendable of the two? If it is Tevez then I could mitigate that by perhaps getting in the increasingly impressive David Silva? Thoughts and opinions most welcome.

Why is that? Winnable game against this lower ranked chap:
        http://fantasy.premierleague.com/M/entryhist.mc?id=518846
We'll probably both captain Nasri then it should be rather tight. He has three Chelsea players which would make me uneasy if I was him for their next game

Its not Jamsie P is it? Yeah he is a bit close in terms of ranking, and he seems to be cautious enough with his transfers so I cant see him taking a daft hit and making it easy. Ach well, its about time I dragged my team back up the rankings so this week may as well be the start of it.

I think ultimately Torres is the wisest choice on paper.

However, I have Tevez, and I can't swap him out without a hit, so he's staying.

Torres is a 6 weeker too, so if he doesn't do well immediately, you may be kicking yourself, but there's plenty of time.

You are in tight spot there mate. For other who already have Torres we decided it before and was a bit easier but in your situation with no certainty on Tevez and Drogs still having 2 pretty tough fixtures to come you have to wait for confirmation when you actually can't afford to. I wud just suggest wait as long as possible to get any news regarding Tevez andd take a decision accordingly anbd if you don't then Drogba gets the cut for me too.

That's the rub though, will Tevez play? If I knew that he was definitely stripped of the captaincy I would take him out as there is a decent chance he wont be playing, besides they might send him off to Rooneycamp USA to chill his beans or something.

Is there anywhere you can get a tally of braces, hat-tricks and above?

I'm thinking if we maybe look at the stats from the last couple of years we can figure out who's capable of the really big hauls.

I can guess the usual suspects, but if we start with everyone with 20+ goals a season, that would be a good look for the captain potentials.

    Hi all,
Just mulling over my starting XI, there are a few people on the bench I am mulling over and I'll give my reasons for my decisions...

    Foster
    Vidic Kolarov Baines
    Bale Nasri Nani NZogbia Cahill
    Torres Carroll
    SUBS: Davies, Jara, Coleman

    Sub decisions:
Coleman: I see City putting up a defensive barrier that maybe Baines would be better suited to get points from.
Jara: Its between him and Vidic, but I have a hunch about Vidic this weekend.
Davies: This is a tough decision. Sunderland are defensively solid but Davies can nick a penalty. Perhaps drop Nani for him given Sunderlands defensive injuries?

    Transfer decision:
Almost certainly bank the transfer barring injuries/cancellations.

    ALL comments welcome!

Barton --> Brunt (4.9ppg) or Yaya Toure (4.3ppg)
Both have decent fixtures but leaning towards Yaya because although Brunt is likely to be involved in West Brom do, they don't do that much compared to City
