The Captain’s Poll is slowly recovering some form after a couple of recent positives – notably from the likes of Carlos Tevez and Samir Nasri. Now the big guns need to step up to help restore parity, after a season of armband disappointment from our regular poll winners.

Let’s look at some of the more interesting candidates this week…

Cesc Fabregas
Arsenal’s captain has only had 26 minutes on the field since his most recent return to action, but a home tie against Stoke means we basically have to give him some attention. Owned by under 6% of managers (with most likely to be the kind that give up and forget their teams) and down to the low-low price of a mere £11.7m, the midfielder is almost the perfect differential. Okay, perhaps not quite, but if an extra week’s training sharpens him up, then with Cesc, anything is possible – be it another agonising injury or a bountiful haul of goals and/or assists.

Carlos Tevez
As kindly pointed out by fresh-faced Scout johnfinlay, Carlos Tevez will play if he is picked. The question is, will he be in your team and will you double down on that bet and hand him the Fantasy armband? Call me a superstitious fool, but I can’t help but remember last winter when Manchester City had a Monday night fixture amongst a torrent of bad weather and lo and behold, Tevez popped with a hat-trick. City play on Monday once more and the weather looms ever present, can lightning possibly strike twice? Following this week’s events, it would be ironic in the extreme.

Morten Gamst Pedersen
It has probably been a good few years since Morten Gamst Pedersen was a major blip on the radar of Fantasy Managers, his last three seasons have been a pretty barren affairs. That was then and this is now, and with an 8 point average return over his last 6 games, the Norwegian midfielder seems to have found that spark once more. Still owned by only 4% of managers, he is not exactly going to be a key selection just yet, but the pollsters on this site have been tracking his performances and he is certainly in the hat for a decent haul this week; at home to bottom of the table West Ham, it’s difficult to ignore the potential he offers.

Fernando Torres
Can you hear the drums Fernando? It’s me banging on your door telling you to pick up your socks and show some of that form that has only offered slight returns so far this season. You’ve had a new born, surely you want to rock the cradle like it’s 1994? Enough of me getting my frustration off my chest (please, score!) and the bare facts are that Fernando Torres is the biggest “home banker” imaginable with 44 goals in 48 league appearances at Anfield, a record any striker would kill for. With Roy Hodgson’s old club, a travel sick Fulham paying visit, he’ll be hoping that his star striker can summon the form that put Chelsea to the sword last month and put smiles on the faces of the 16% of FPL managers who are putting the ultimate amount of faith in Torres.

Samir Nasri
Save the best until last, or at least the player who is more likely to dominate our poll this Gameweek. While the security blanket of a spot-kick (surely at least one of Van Persie or Fabregas will start this weekend and usurp him on that front) looks set to depart, Nasri has many other strings to his bow and will have the confidence flowing further after being crowned French footballer of the year earlier in the week.

As mentioned earlier with Fabregas, a home tie against Stoke is always going to tempt armband attention Arsenal’s way. Nasri has really sparkled so far this season with 8 goals in his last 11 appearances, that’s prompted a price rise to £8.1m in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game and is no in a third (and only growing) of all teams in the game. Little wonder that he’s topping our poll so far.

Five names there and not even space for the likes of Gareth Bale and Rafael Van Der Vaart who could be traveling to Bloomfield road this weekend with goals on the agenda, if the weather and their fitness permits. He may be facing one of the best home sides in the country but the consistent returns of Andy Carroll (the last time the giant Geordie started a game and didn’t pick up some added FPL points was as long as 3 months ago) means last week’s saviour is pursuing the charts too, then of course the likes of Nani, Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard will all square off against each other – will there be Fantasy points on offer in this titan clash?

If you haven’t yet cast your vote then scurry back to the frontpage and do so quick sharp. Are you one of the slight handful of managers looking to David Silva to kick off your FPL cup run?

    Foster Jussi

    Evra Kryiacos Givet (Carr Foley)

    Nani Nasi MGP Bale (Barton)

    Carroll Tevez Drogba

Almost odds on to do Evra > Kolorov but tempted by Carr > Bardsley. a 4 point but then don't have to rely on a suspect Blackburn defence with Givet..

I have 9 of my squad involved in head-to-head clashes:

    Cole + Malouda vs. Nani
    Samba vs. Obinna
    K.Toure v Cahill(Eve)
    Nasri vs. Ethers

Not an ideal situation, especially if a defender is matched against an attacker from the opposing team.
Any suggestions on who to bench, or transfer? I would like to play Cahill, but if he scores that rules out a Kolo Toure clean sheet.

Yes, there is no way of predicting which scenario will happen.
If Cahill scores a couple and gets BPs, I would accept 2 points for Toure.
If Cole keeps a clean sheet and Malouda gets points, I would accept 2 points for Nani.

Post got lost on previous page..... Thinking of holding off on transfers this week, got 2 freebies but nothing is jumping out at me so far… Might ditch Elmo if he’s not starting but other than that I got no real itch to scratch.. 3.4m in bank

    Robinson
    Ridgewell Toure Elmo
    Nani Malouda Nasri(C) N’Zogbia
    Drogba Elmander Carroll
SUBS gk Foster Jagielka Jara Adam

Most likely hold onto Malouda til WC, unless VDV is fit and firing, and also upgrade Ridgewell next week… Thoughts?? Cheers

Why get rid of Vidic? He's one of the few fixture-proof players. Fabs clearly wasn't fit last monday and Wenger looks like he could be doing exactly what he said he wouldn't do and rushing him back which will just result in him breaking down again.

Or play safe and go for Nasri ? Always have a slight question mark whether he will play full 90 mins as Wenger rotates MID so much....he SHOULD play whole match, but you never quite know do you ? Time Wenger may rest him ?

    Robbo

    Cole, Konch, Dann

    Nani, Nasri, Brunt, Malouda, Gerrard

    Drogba, Carroll

    (Elmander, Coleman, Simpson)

    1 free transfer, options are:

a.) stay put, play elmander if gerrard doesnt go, save transfer
b.) drop cole for kolarov, better matchup, good fixtures coming
c.) drop gerrard for fabregas, then nasri to VDV next week
    d.) something else

    Hart
    Vidic Kyrgiakos Cahill
Bale Yaya Toure Nasri Nani (C) Malouda
    Drogba Carroll

have carson wellbeck stam and coleman on the bench.

2 transfers available and 1.3 to spend

is it worth dropping bale or yaya - im thinking bout going to david dunn or gamst pedersen or nzogbia

or do i try get in a blackburn defender, or any other suggestions.

also not confident about chelsea v man u game, drog and malouda - potential of scoring big or not at all?

Snowing like a crazy white ice mother in my western part of England. If its this bad elsewhere there are going to be cancellations for sure (as Redknapp would say). My tranny is on hold until I know more.

Not to sure. Meeting between him and Mancini not happening today anymore(see tweets)

I'm not so confident ManC will bang in lots of goals vs Everton on Monday Eve.(I dont like the monday eve games for a captain. Call me superstitous)

Yeah rule of thumb here is -

keep him if youve got him
dont get him if you aint
        dont captain him

any1 wana take a stab at sorting out last weeks lowest scoring team on this website? 2 free transfers...

    foster(krul)
    kolarov jones koncheskey (cahill shawX)
    arshavin dunn fabs jarvis nani
    tevez balotelli (elmander)

    1.1 in bank

1 question is to whether keep balotelli or not? he has a good fixture and everton tend to leak goals in away fixture...
else i can do a simple balotelli>torres and one more transfer to help fund an extra 2.2 mill... so maybe arshavin>someone...
    thanks a in advance

ty for the nzog option, i think i'l do arshavin>nzog for sure.
only doubt is whether i should do balotelli>torres
          or
          elmander>torres + g.cahill>bardsley ... i wanna keep balotelli!

Looks like Ferdinand won't make it for Sunderland, io can't work out whether that helps or hinders their clean sheet potential 🙂

Nasri for Malouda/Cahill is the better move. Gives you a good capt choice this week and Nasri is a keeper for the season if his form continues. I like the other move as well, but the Nasri one is better.

My own mistake, gambled on Barton to Ethers (since Barton was a doubt & had 3 players out) last week... should have gone Nzog or saved the move...
Still mixed feelings here - Nasri might be rested a little vs Stoke with Fabs, RVP, Walcott etc... back in the mix. I know he's in great form but losing spot kick duties + home to Stoke, he might not do that much... if I get Nzog I can plaw him and bench Cahill (who has good fixtures before Asian cup)...
Depending on Cesc's fitness, I'd be able to decide later which ARS mid I should get for Cahill/Malouda (as I also want VdV when back to his old self)
