The Captain’s poll is about to go into overdrive over the festive period as Gameweeks seamlessly merge into one. We’ve got Gameweek 19 looming tomorrow morning, before the next creeps up on us almost immediately after squad lockdown.

Here’s a quick stroll through this week’s key candidates; the next poll will be go live on Sunday so keep your wits about you…

Nani
Runaway leader, at the time of writing, Nani is now one of the most reliable Fantasy performers available; it’s not something we haven’t said [many] times before but it still is a surprising ascent for the Portuguese winger given his previous inconsistencies. United have a home fixture against a Sunderland side who are scratching around to find centre-backs these days which helps to make Nani a clear favourite. With an average return of 9.3 points a game on the right wing at Old Trafford, it’s easy to see why.

Tim Cahill
Cahill and Everton play at home against less than steady travelers Birmingham on Boxing Day – it seems almost inevitable that we’ll see our Antipodean friend make one or more trips to the corner flag for his now familiar goal celebration. Cahill is a man on fire, with 9 Premier League goals (his highest tally in the last 5 years at least) already this season, he bears the brunt of the goalscoring responsibilities for David Moyes’ side. How they will miss him in January.

Wayne Rooney
Wayne Rooney is slowly creeping back onto our Fantasy radar but needs a strong Gameweek to convince the masses. With Nani so much more popular as a selection in the United attack, it would be a huge feat for him to top our poll but he’s still got plenty of backers ahead of the Sunderland game. Despite the fact he hasn’t scored in open play since March, is yet to catch the eye of the FPL Bonus Point judges and has taken to missing spot-kicks, he will always pose a threat. His owners will be relishing the prospect of the Rooney differential coming good against Sunderland.

The rest…
A whole raft of players follow in the wake of the leading three with Fernando Torres the closest to nip at the heels, as he hopes he’ll get to play at Bloomfield Road and pick a pocket or two in the Blackpool defence. Rafael Van Der Vaart is fit again and faces an Aston Villa defence that has been as steady as Bambi on the booze, while Carlos Tevez remains a prospect at Newcastle now his short-term future at City seems settled.

His solid form, which Mark has hinted could improve further, means Morten Gamst Pedersen is also scrapping along as a “differential” selection. A few weeks ago a home tie for Bolton would have had Fantasy Managers salivating, the bubble, at least as far as the armband goes, seems to have well and truly burst in a case of once bitten, twice shy as Kevin Davies and Johan Elmander struggle to attract votes.

If you’ve not yet placed down your marker in our poll, get to the frontpage and let us know who’ll be getting a Captain’s armband in their stocking this year. The poll will close at midnight tonight; pumpkins optional.

Alright guys, narrowed it down to two choices.
Need to pick up a GK who rotates well with Foster.
Gordon - rotates better, but has same home and away fixtures
Robinson - rotates great home and away
    Thinking Robinson at the moment.
    Thanks!

Who to bench, N’Zog, Malouda or Carroll?

Saving transfer, going to make Elmander>Bent and Jussi>Gordon next GW. Wise to double up SUN defense until GW24?

    Any thoughts?

Yep, maybe I just toss a coin between Mal and N'Zog. Tough one though. Would be easy one without Lamps' comeback, have this naive belief in my mind that Malouda starts deliver again when Fatty's back...

    Merry Christmas to all.

Lads I have really tough decision. I need to lose one defender in order to have VDV. Starting next GW. This week I will sit tight.

    1. Cashley - own him since the beginning, to much price rise, nice fixtures
    2. Vidic - to much price rise, goal threat, nice fixtures, double upcoming
    3. Kolarov - huge potential, but still haven't seen anything. Yes he has set pieces but someone has to score from those deliveries. I don't see anybody capable for that. Ade and Lescot are benched, only Toure, but he is suspended. I can't see Silva, Milner scoring from Kolarov cross/set piece ball.
    4. Konchesky - he was the obvious candidate cause I had strong enough defense, but that double has killed that.

    Please help.
    Cheers,

Me no understandy. If you are sitting tight (no transfers) for this GW, then isn't it a bit early to be asking this question given potential injuries etc?

Hi Horizontal next transfers are after 2 days, so there is no time. This GW will bring back up goalkeeper, Stockdale or Habsi preparing, for double GW 24. I need VDV for the two home games and I like playing MGP and N Zog this GW.

Hope I made it more understandable and will appreciate your opinion.

Cashley: Could be downgraded to Terry or Ivanovic without losing too much points

Vidic: Could be downgraded to either Rafael or Ferdinand, but Vidic is the more secure option, and should also score more

Kolarov: The best option in the city defence, and will (hopefully) come good.

Konchesky: Nice value option, and really good fixtures coming up. I'd keep.

Tough choice (obviously), but I'd downgrade Cashley to Terry, alternatively Vidic to either Ferdinand or Rafael. I'd definately keep Kolarov and Konchesky.

Thanks Rekesalat, I thought Downgrading Cashley or Vidic but I am not positive on Rafael still and with the games coming in 2, 3 days he could be benched easily. Fan on Cashley and I think I am gonna own him whole season. But maybe that is the solution. Change him for Ivanovic, but simply I can not make me do it. Maybe I will make ballsy move and offload Kolarov, I think its to much fuss about him, he isn't that much good. He wasn't first choice LB for his National team on the world cup even.

OK, I get it now. 🙂

Would Vidic to Rio solve your problems?

Gives you money in the bank and a nailed on Man U defender (barring injury).

Not as much attacking threat as Vidic, but you have to make a tough decision here.

          Best of luck with it.

Thanks, the problem with RIo is that I have nad experience with him, he got injured a lot of time. I will look to that, but even him could be benched one game IMO. Smalling could get some game time. BTW Vidic loves doubles. Remember when he got 21 pts I think?

you can downgrade vidic to evra...you will still have the attacking potential plus the ocassional him playing as winger....personally hate evra but this might help your situation plus nailed on starter...

I think Kyrgiakos is in pole position. Agger wasn't Hodgson's first choice in the way Konchesky was, and he seemed to clash with him before he got injured. I wouldn't assume he is a shoo-in when he is fully fit. Go Greek is my tip.

Looking at the fixtures, the next 2 GWs after this one have fantastic fixtures for a lot of the most popular teams:

Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City, Sunderland and Spurs all have 2 easy home fixtures.

Arsenal and Man United have 2 away fixtures, but they are all 'easy'.

I think GWs 20 and 21 should be high scoring after a couple of dire weeks.

I'd wager that the BP-Liv match will be off, looking at the forecast:

      http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/nw/blackpool_forecast_weather.html

So you should consider beefing up your defence with your extra cash.

Simpson to Kolarov? I know he's yet to produce the goods, but he's reasonably priced and may well come good soon.

I'm in the same quandry, thinking that I have to play elmander at home to stoke even though he hasnt done anything for weeks.

VDV will likely come off early, but he has so much potential to score big when he's on.
Nasri may be overshadowed by Fab and is playing Chelsea after all, even though they've been playing poorly recently.

RBJ seems to be a tad perturbed since he doesn't like talking turkey and his missus is definitely missing a good stuffing.

      I blame the Christmas spirits.

Flipped a coin, Drogba (c) it is.

Hoping for his run to continue agaisnt Arsenal esp with Lamps back in the picture and be a good differential.

    Am I mad?

If playing Fantasy football has taught me anything, it's to never look at form.

I know it sounds ridiculous, and i appreciate that this is a sport where many players blow hot and cold at different times. But in terms of picking a fantasy teams every week, you have to judge ever sinlge week as a seperate entity.

There are so many people out there that base their current team on who did well last week. And more times than not, it blows up in their face. Look at Berbatov, 5 goals in one game, hundreds of thousands of people brought him in, looking to cash in on another big points haul, and he didn't even play in the next league game.

You need to judge every gameweek as an individual episode, rather than a concurrent series. Pick your team based on THAT gameweeks fixtures.

Ugh, apologies. Only meant to write 2 lines of advice, ended up scrolling a book.

The da's current team as follows:

    Jaask
    Evra, Kolarov, Coleman
    Nani, Nasri, Bale, VDV
    Drogba, Tevez, Carroll

    Subs: Barton, Konchesky, Jones

    Do I....

    (i) swap Bale for VDV
(ii) swap Phil Jones for Rafael (means benching one of the above)
    (iii) do nothing?

    VDV's the favourite so far.

Also should I captain Nani or Drogba? Nani the obvious one but all positive signs for Drogba (form against Arsenal, his returning personal form, many of the big players coming back etc)

    Cheers.
