Now that we’ve had a couple of days of turkey (and goal) feasts it’s time to try and get back into a fantasy routine once more, albeit an incredibly hectic one, as gameweek twenty looms large before the current one has even finished.

The captain’s poll has been updated for gameweek twenty and with under a day until the deadline closes in on us anyone looking for a vote and opinions of their peers will need to get cracking, sharpish. Here’s a few folks we expect will be the hot contenders…

Steven Gerrard/Fernando Torres
Liverpool, Liverpool, Liverpool. Based on results and recent history you can’t really consider them one of the big clubs any more as they look to fight for a place in the Europa League once more next year, but when a favourable fixture at Anfield comes along, you can’t help but recall, and almost expect, The Reds of old to return. Steven Gerrard always leads his club with a full heart and with the back-up of set-piece and penalty dominance at least has a safety cushion to fall back on.

Team-mate Fernando Torres has a record at Anfield that Fantasy Managers always want a slice of with his 44 goals in 48 home league appearances. The visit of Mick McCarthy’s Wolves means that the Spanish hitman and his captain will surely be dominating the thoughts of managers far and wide – whether they want them to or not. At least they’ve now got double fixtures in gameweeks 22 and 24 to help compensate any wary investors too.

Carlos Tevez
A home form that has seen the Argentine striker score just 14 points in his last five gameweeks at Eastlands (breakdown: 1,2,1,8,2) means the idea of Carlos Tevez competing at the top of the poll seems somewhat convoluted – but we all know it’s not that simple. Well, technically it is, but it isn’t really. Manchester City may be one of the least potent home offences (two goals in those last five games at Eastlands) but a solo talent like Tevez will always attract attention. Add a club like Aston Villa- who seem to being through a bit of an identity crisis at the moment- into the fray and the outcome could end up something special. Things might not always turn out that way, but it’s surely not long before the away form gets reciprocated in front of the home ground – perhaps even this week.

Rafael Van Der Vaart
The Dutch midfielder has settled into the Premier League like an absolute dream, while his niggling injuries have been frustrating for Fantasy Managers to contend with (an extra week off due to the weather last week may have actually been a godsend, in a manner of speaking), everything else has been nigh on perfect; particularly when it comes to bringing home the all important fantasy bacon (Mmmm, pigs in blankets – me).

Van Der Vaart has the highest points per game returns of any player in the FPL spectrum, takes penalties, attracts the bonus judges rewards and on top of that is frankly everywhere, cropping up in the right place at the right time to notch goals with consistent regularity. A home game against Newcastle is just another chance for the Tottenham talisman to fizz, bang and whistle this festive period following his 16 point haul at Aston Villa yesterday. Fantasy Managers new favourite toy, and at a comparatively low price to boot.

The rest…
All of the candidates we think that might just be on the periphery of our front three are certainly not lesser lights, in fact they’re some of the most owned and most proficient fantasy selections on offer. The triumvirate of Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard and Florent Malouda will be hoping that Bolton haven’t suddenly mastered the art of the clean sheet after 17 weeks between their last two.

Gareth Bale and his army of well over 50% ownership will be hoping he does what he does best, and offers a reasonable outlet for opportunity while Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas travel to a Wigan known to be able to concede a goal or nine and Nani of course is also very much a regular points scorer these days, even if he’s heading to St. Andrews. We haven’t even got to mentioning the Sunderland strikers up against an always open Blackpool defence. Options aplenty this week.

Head back to the frontpage and place your marker as we make an assault on another gameweek. The poll has to get into a real groove at some point, so let’s go out of 2010 with a bang.

Have Yaya and Dempsey benched for Rafael and Coleman at the moment...

Bham can't seem to score and Everton are much better away than at home this year (with Fulham just poor and Yaya home record nothing like his away).

Thinking about Bale->Kuyt before tomorrow. Is Agger back to force kyrg back to the bench? Kyrgiakos->Skrtel next week? Or get rid of Samba? Want to get some Liverpool players for the next gw's. Is Skrtel, Kuyt and Torres too much? Or should I focus on improving my defence instead?

          More so I reckon.

If Fabregas and RVP return to form, Arsenal will start tearing apart teams again, which will be more profitable for all involved. Nasri may lose a few bonus points, but he normally needs to have a hand in two goals to get significant recognition anyway.

I’ve a free transfer this coming week and have been toying with this idea for ages.

    MGP (out) Lampard (In)
    Brunt (out) Gerrard (In)

Which would give me an attacking force of:

(MID) Lampard, Fabregas, Gerrard, Nani, VDV
    (FWD) Welbeck, Odemwingie, Caroll

Am I foolishly trying to create sort of ‘all-star looking’ midfield line up or are Gerrard & Lampard still way off form and fitness and therefore I should stick with MGP & Brunt?

    So, so, so tempted!!!

    Thoughts anyone?

Thinking about this team for next week:

    Gordon
    Vidic Kolarov -
    Yaya VDV (c) Nasri Nani
    Drogba Torres Odemwingie

Am set on those 10, but not sure what to do about the third defensive slot. The options are:

    Jara - BLACKBURN
    Coleman - west ham
Johnson - WOLVES (for a point hit)

I'll be bringing in Johnson next week regardless, just not sure whether it's worth doing it this week for a hit. Not too worried about the hit though, the week that I bring Johnson in won't affect the total number of transfer I do until the second wildcard, so it will most likely cost the same in the long run either way. Make sense?

I don't think I'd make the change for a 4pt hit, but then you seem to have made your mind up about it already.. I can't see Johnson outscoring either Coleman or Jara with -4 so that would be why I would be against doing it.

Well odemwingie is a doubt so you need a usable 1st sub

I have somewhat of a similar problem.. My back line ATM is

      Jara acole gcahill kyrgiakos pantsil

Gonna have to play kyrgy acole his week for sure, not very keen on jara though, wondering if whether I should bring in kolarov for g cahill for -4 , thoughts on that ?

I personally think you should make the move, you can have jara as 1st sub if odem is out

I don't think I quite made sense there, so let's try again...

Let's say that there is a set number of transfers that I make until the next wildcard. I'm 99% certain that I'll make more transfers than there are weeks, i.e. I'll take a point hit at some stage. So the week in which I make the Johnson transfer, which I definitely will, won't affect the number of points lost to hits before the next wildcard. If I delay the transfer for a week, making that transfer free, it will just make some transfer a few weeks later cost 4 points, whereas that transfer wouldn't cost 4 points if I make the Johnson transfer this week? I think this makes sense! The way the transfer rollover system works makes it so.

So, I think Johnson will outscore Jara and Coleman this week, so I'll transfer him in.

      Yes?!

I totally understand, you want to make the move in a week where you think the hit will pay off, in a way so where the hit pays for itself, and in turn allows you to "save" that transfer for later

        right?

I am thinking similar with Kolarov, although he doesnt have a DGW

With Caroll or Elmander? I don't know why I got rid of Caroll, he was scoring every week and I thought he wouldn't with fixtures and I was annoyed of being talked out of getting Elmander way before the bandwagon. Worst transfer of the season and now most of my rivals have him since I got rid and they've caught up loads.

What's your opinion on playing Morrison ahead of pedersen this week dunny? Who do you see making up for brunts absence this week?

Any chance of a jara cs? Thinking whether I should play him or do a -4 to get in kolarov

Dunny?! I think we actually have a good chance of a clean sheet this week. I'd play Morrison, it's not going to be a goal glut so it makes sense to play the home side player.

Morrison is so bad. You'd have a decent team if you just dropped him!

If he could actually shoot he'd easily be one of our best players. That one on one against Bolton was cringeworthy though..

If he can get 60-70 mins each game that'll do. I plan to get him tonight after the Arse/Che match.

What do you lot think of my team for this week:

    Hart(Harper)
    Evra,Bardley,Skrtel(Dann,Coleman)
    Cahill,Nzogbia,Pederson,Nani(Barton)
    Torres(C),Tevez,Carroll.

Have torres as captain for now but tevez is tempting me aswell.
    Any useful comments welcome!
    Thanks in advance!

Captaining torres and without VDV. Too much of a risk? My rivals will most probably be captaining VDV.

That's what I'm doing.. Don't really care that I don't have VDV this week, Cahill & Nasri have as much potential to score big this week. Whoever you captain this week will be a risk, but if your just playing the fixtures then surely Torres is the 'safe' option anyway.
