A battling performance by Gerard Houllier’s side this afternoon leaves Chelsea outside the top four looking in as the New Year was heralded in by a cracking game at Stamford Bridge.

With Arsenal, Spurs and both Manchester sides all winning yesterday, the onus was on the champions to follow suit, but the visitors spoiled the party by snatching a last-gasp leveller to leave London with a point -as well as their tally of seven yellow cards- in a markedly physical contest.

Frank Lampard’s spot-kick opener suggests he has regained the position as number one penalty taker, following Didier Drogba’s miss at Tottenham a couple of weeks ago. In spite of this, Drogba’s goal and assist takes his Fantasy Premier League (FPL) total to 20 points (pre-Bonus Point allocation) in the last three game weeks, which, happily for his Fantasy Owners, is more in line with his early season points returns, a huge improvement on the 17 points in his previous seven game weeks, 11-17.

Remarkably, Chelsea had failed to score more than one goal in a league match since game week ten but, facing a porous Villa defence, they at least found themselves amongst the goals going forward, though a poor defensive performance will have done little to instill confidence in Carlo Ancelotti’s title ambitions. They now have chalked up just one clean sheet in their last eight league games.

The nature of the draw, in particular, will be bitterly disappointing to the Italian, as Chelsea, having trailed for most of the second half, seemed set to win it at the death only to throw away their lead seconds from the final whistle, with Houllier’s side scoring more than one goal in an away game for only the second time this season.

Most pleased of all, undoubtedly, will be Sir Alex Ferguson, whose Man United side now lead their rivals by six points with a game in hand, as Chelsea’s hangover now continues into 2011.

I love the knowledge on here. People seem to know for absolute sure that DJ the in form striker won't do as well as Varney. All based on home / away stats when so far Blackpool have hardly played at home!

My guess and my transfer is with DJ, the in form man who is lucky enough to take this amazing form to his home ground.

With DJ it's either all or nothing, he'll grab you a goal or will just flop and get you 2 points. Varney could get around 4-5 points some games with bonus & assists.. I'd go Varney!

Blackpool have played at home often enough for anyone to see that Reg V. is the horse for THAT particular course.

Sure, DJ has the best recent form but he has done NOTHING at Bloomfield. Reg V ranks VERY highly on home form alone.

    Hi lads,

Is it worth to take 4 pt hit for the below transfers

    1. Samba to Evatt &
    2. Morrison to Maxi Rodrigues

or do i need to bring in torres for Liverpool coverage (already got Kuyt and Konchesky)?

planning to have WC on GW-24.

Tough call. Rooney has Stoke at Old Trafford which he could possibly score more points than torres in 2 away games. Liverpool are very poor away from home. I think torres will be pushed hard to play 3 games in such close time. But then again, he's a player who can easily get a hattrick any time! I am personally having drogba instead of torres this week, but i still have a lot of doubts about it. I will kick myself if torres has a screamer - and i'm a liverpool fan! lol

Anybody else who just cannot wait for this season to finish? I'm sick of West Brom always hovering around promotion & relegation, we never do things the easy way and it's just always so nervy being an Albion fan. Fantasy Football is also absolutely shocking, I like a little excitement in the game obviously but it's just too random, all the big hitters aren't producing and it's getting really boring.

Already used my free transfer to bring in Adam, but not sure if I should take a 4 point hit to cover injuries (Carroll, Nani), and the fact Kyrg seems to have lost his place…

    Foster
    Vidic, Baines, Bardsley
Nani, Van der Vaart, Nasri, Adam (c)
    Tevez, Berbatov, Carroll

    Bench: Brunt, Kyrgiakos, Foley

    Hi everyone,

Obviously looking at which LIV and BLP coverage to bring in for this week. I have Konch but obv his position in high doubt with Aurelio coming in and doing so well and to be honest the defence is too unpredictable for hits. So most likely I'm looking toward Torres and Gerrard and maybe DJ or Varney.

For this would probably do in this order of importance

    1. Drogba > Torres
    2. Nasri > Gerrard (4 point)
    3. Welbeck > DJ/Varney (8 point)

Anyone care to agree or disagree with this? Or any suggestions for this week? My team is linked.

    Thanks

Just looking at the Opta Stats to help with the 'Varney vs Campbell' debate, and Campbell is ahead of Varney in every category.

Also looking at the ESPN heat maps, Campbell is definitely the main man positioned right in the middle of pitch, whilst Varney is out on the right.

Campbell it is then, at least for me.

Yeah sorry, I meant left, it's just the ESPN heat maps have the wingers and full backs the wrong way round for some weird reason.

Who'd have imagined at the start of the season the amount of debate that has been created on the relative merits of DJ and Reg!

Sorry for the dumb question. On the double game week...I see Blackpool have two games. If I bring in someone today, do I get the combination of points they get for BOTH games? Is that the idea?

In theory, he'll get 10bps, but yes, BP are awarded for both. Each game is a separate entity, just the points are combined at the end.

Are people not concerned about the possibility of Liverpool players being rested for the two premiership games, because they have Man Utd in-between both games in the FA Cup with the Blackpool game only 3 days later, and Everton 4 days after the Blackpool game. I have a feeling they wont play their strongest squad against Blackpool.

I can see Konchesky playing one of the two doubles and Gerrard/Torres possibly playing both unless they need to be rested.

I think Gerrard/Torres might be rested for one of the games at least - for Liverpool, the FA Cup is all they have left (apart from a potential relegation battle!!!), so I think their strongest team will play.

This season is going from bad to worse. Berbatov (C) and Tevez doing a Heskey (actually scrap that after today!) plus no rafael and kolarov's 1 pointer all make this GW a pile o pants.

      Just a couple of thoughts:

      1. Tevez or Drogba to Torres (just this Lpool DGW only)?
      2. Peoples' thoughts on when to use 2nd WC? Better to get the team sorted asap or wait until the last possible time to set up for the last 11 GWs? Used 1st WC in GW7 and about 120pts behind in mini-league so can't mess up!

Anyone think Berbatov will outscore either of the two popular blackpool strikers this week?

I remember someone saying he gets enough rest on the pitch!
