This season, Ian Holloway’s Blackpool have lit up the Premier League with an attacking approach that has been thoroughly refreshing to watch. In spite of this, only Charlie Adam has come under any serious Fantasy consideration so far, with a tendency to catch the Bonus Judges eye almost every time he takes to the pitch.

A culmination of the recent spell of frozen weather and Blackpool’s lack of undersoil heating means that, currently, Holloway’s side now has an eye-watering three Double Gameweeks (GW22, GW 24 & GW 27) over a period of six game weeks, with their fixtures reading (BIR & LIV, wba, SUN & MUN, WHM, eve, AVL & TOT). With that in mind, it would be remiss of us not to run the rule over couple of other alternatives.

Stephen Crainey
Far and away the most attack-minded of the Seasiders’ back four, Crainey has yet to gain the returns his forages forward have merited. A look at the Members Area stats shows just how much more of a potential advantage he holds over the likes of Ian Evatt, Neal Eardley and Craig Cathcart when it comes to going forward.

Although Blackpool have failed to record a clean sheet at Bloomfield Road so far this season, they have scored in every home game and sooner or later, Crainey’s promise of a decent haul will surely come to fruition. On the road, Holloway’s side have also been far better defensively than many appreciate, chalking up five clean sheets, which is, astonishingly, the same number as Man City and Chelsea combined. That stat alone means Crainey (and Blackpool defensive options) are definitely at least worth consideration.

Cairney comes in at £4.1m in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and is owned by 3.8% of managers, though with the Seasiders’ run of fixtures, there’s no doubt his ownership will rise.

Luke Varney
The on-loan Derby man has been overshadowed thus far by Adam, but has scored some cracking goals and shown a consistency of performance that has crept well under the Fantasy radar.

Varney has played a part in all six of Blackpool’s home games and has averaged 5.3 points per game at Blooomfield Road. Indeed, there has only been one home game so far where Varney has failed to either score or assist, as Holloway’s tactics ensure plenty of chances for his forwards.

At just £4.6m, Varney has accumulated 68 FPL points so far, which, in terms of “Value”, makes his fifth-top forward to date. Owned by a mere 2.4% of FPL teams, Varney is certainly showing he has the ability to make his mark at the top level. Such has been his impact, Holloway is keen to make Varney’s stay a permanent one, though there’s no surprise the likes of West Brom are also rumoured to have joined the chase for his signature.

DJ Campbell is also worth a look, though he seems to do better away from home, the polar opposite of Varney. Every one of Campbell’s five league goals this season have came on the road, though he is looking like a man in form right now, with three goals in his last three games.

    Hi everyone, first post.
    Van Der Sar
    Rafa Bardsley Terry
    Adam(c) Vdv Bale Barton
    Drogba Bent Tevez
I've made one transfer, and have 1.7m in the bank. Would you make any changes, is drogba fit? Is it worth getting in dj campbell for bent? And do i play kolorov instead of bardsley?

I would have to get out a midfielder if i was to get him in for bent and i fancy tevez for a goal or two v arsenal. Is drogba fit do you know? Apparently he was limping but i did not see him limping? Torres has only scored once away from anfield this season as well.

Considering to do two substitutions prior to GW 22.

    Vidic OUT, Evatt IN.
    Carroll OUT, Berbatov IN.

Would leave me with this shower:
    Stockdale
    Konchesky, Bardsley, Evatt
    Nani, VdV, Adam, Nasri
    Torres (C), Berbatov, Drogba
SUBS: Foster | MGP, Shawcross, Kolarov

Team in link... So, how about it?

i would personally not take out vidic, and take out konchesky, i know it would allow u to make the berba transfer, but he is poor when rooney doesnt play, and rooney will not play most likely for stoke. why not go for varney, ive done that, garenteed 4 points, and he averages like the article says, 5 or more points a game at home.... and hese got two this gw!! and why are you puting in a blackpool defender, why take a 4 point hit, do varney for carol and save needed cash for fabregas for his easy run soon. 🙂 easy

Sir P: nice post affirming Varney.

This earlier Scout's report suggested Varney was more prone to rotation than DJ:

    http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2010/10/28/spot-the-differential-dj-campbell-luke-varney/

Do you think that is still a concern?

I'd say there is more chance of Varney being subbed/rotated than DJ, even more so while Harewood isn't around (although that also means less chance of Varney being rotated too)

I'm not sure Chelsea has missed him, he hardly played for them in the last few years and still wouldn't play now. I can't understand him as a suggestion, he's had a terrible start to the season and is far from certain to play in either let alone both DGW matches.

Well, I disagree with you. And I would like to let you know that I would never wind up anyone other than a seasoned poster, such as your good self, ab, A P, MF etc, or a mate such as Ollie or I L F! 🙂

That is fine but do u actually think he'll play both/either DGW games?

I've made one transfer to get Adam and have a bench of Carroll, N'Zog and Williamson i.e. no bench! If Nani doesn't play I'm fielding 10. I'm looking for a bit of advice - as I could potentially only have 10 players fit is it worth taking a hit for a DGW midfielder (N'Zog out plus 4.5m in bank) to someone like Kuyt who is likely to play 2 matches and will hopefully get me my 4pts back and maybe some more? Or better to just play 10 in case of any yellow/red cards etc and possibly minus points by taking a hit?

I would take a well thought out 4 pointer if I wasn't going to field 11 in a regular week.

In a DGW it's a no brainer, Kuyt is an option but expensive for his possible returns.

      Carrol to DJ/Varney?

I had thought of that, but it will cost me .7m more to get Carroll back as I've had since gw3. Though a midfielder was a safer option than a defender.

I'm a bit reluctant to get a Blackpool defender in, in case they let in 2 goals and get a minus point! I could do Williamson to Skrtel maybe?

Yeah Skrtel seems a good choice.
I have faith in Holloway 🙂

now i'm worried about taking a hit for torres thinking he might be rested at blackpool, or in a week's time the weather could easily change and postpone that game again.
