This season, Ian Holloway’s Blackpool have lit up the Premier League with an attacking approach that has been thoroughly refreshing to watch. In spite of this, only Charlie Adam has come under any serious Fantasy consideration so far, with a tendency to catch the Bonus Judges eye almost every time he takes to the pitch.

A culmination of the recent spell of frozen weather and Blackpool’s lack of undersoil heating means that, currently, Holloway’s side now has an eye-watering three Double Gameweeks (GW22, GW 24 & GW 27) over a period of six game weeks, with their fixtures reading (BIR & LIV, wba, SUN & MUN, WHM, eve, AVL & TOT). With that in mind, it would be remiss of us not to run the rule over couple of other alternatives.

Stephen Crainey
Far and away the most attack-minded of the Seasiders’ back four, Crainey has yet to gain the returns his forages forward have merited. A look at the Members Area stats shows just how much more of a potential advantage he holds over the likes of Ian Evatt, Neal Eardley and Craig Cathcart when it comes to going forward.

Although Blackpool have failed to record a clean sheet at Bloomfield Road so far this season, they have scored in every home game and sooner or later, Crainey’s promise of a decent haul will surely come to fruition. On the road, Holloway’s side have also been far better defensively than many appreciate, chalking up five clean sheets, which is, astonishingly, the same number as Man City and Chelsea combined. That stat alone means Crainey (and Blackpool defensive options) are definitely at least worth consideration.

Cairney comes in at £4.1m in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and is owned by 3.8% of managers, though with the Seasiders’ run of fixtures, there’s no doubt his ownership will rise.

Luke Varney
The on-loan Derby man has been overshadowed thus far by Adam, but has scored some cracking goals and shown a consistency of performance that has crept well under the Fantasy radar.

Varney has played a part in all six of Blackpool’s home games and has averaged 5.3 points per game at Blooomfield Road. Indeed, there has only been one home game so far where Varney has failed to either score or assist, as Holloway’s tactics ensure plenty of chances for his forwards.

At just £4.6m, Varney has accumulated 68 FPL points so far, which, in terms of “Value”, makes his fifth-top forward to date. Owned by a mere 2.4% of FPL teams, Varney is certainly showing he has the ability to make his mark at the top level. Such has been his impact, Holloway is keen to make Varney’s stay a permanent one, though there’s no surprise the likes of West Brom are also rumoured to have joined the chase for his signature.

DJ Campbell is also worth a look, though he seems to do better away from home, the polar opposite of Varney. Every one of Campbell’s five league goals this season have came on the road, though he is looking like a man in form right now, with three goals in his last three games.

Which duo is better, and why? Essien & Boateng or Ivanovic and Y Toure.

Thank you, in advance, for all of your assistance, y'all!

Thank you for the feedback - Much appreciated. This is my current team: Fabianski, (Al-Habsi), Konchesky, Rafael, Skrtel (Simpson & Ferreira), Nani, Fabregas, Nasri, Essien, De Jong and Tevez, Berbatov, (Varney).

I wanted to remove Ferreira and have 0.5 in the bank, but I wasn't sure if I should simply take him out and switch him for Boateng, or if I should take 2 weeks to bring in Y Toure for Essien and Ivanovic for Ferreira.

Any and all advice, much appreciated!

I still don't think that Boateng is nailed on at City. He hasn't been particularly impressive thus far and Zabaleta's form this season poses a problem for both him and Kolarov.

I'd definitely get Adam in ahead of Yaya. Adam has nine matches in the next 6 game weeks, compared to Yaya's 6.

Not entirely sure who is the best bet to replace Ferreira with though......

What are people doing wi Kyrgiakos? He seems to have lost his starting place to Agger, but Liverpool have 5 games in the next 3 game weeks. Are people hanging on?

I want to try and get Rafael in but it seems stupid to ditch a double game week player.

I am advising my friend to start Kyrgiakos (not drop him), if he misses game one then one of two good subs (Carroll the third) comes in and that's that. If the Greek plays, then maybe he might play the second game for gravy.

Scratch that, if Kyrgiakos misses game one the computer will just see if he misses game two, before a sub. Oh well, time to call my bud.

What do we think about transferring DJ in tonight? Worth doing it in case his price rises - he's at 93.6 as I type - or should I wait for the team sheets tomorrow just in case he doesn't start?

First post here, hi all - love this site and its write ups! I would be greatful for any opinions on my potential options for GW22.

    Team is (bad):

    Gordon/Robinson
    Johnson/Coleman/Distin/Kolarov/Jara
    Nani/Bale/VdV/Brunt/Cahill
    Tevez/Bent/Carroll

At the moment i possess Cahill who has gone off to Asian cup, so he needs replacing. Liverpool and Blackpool have double gameweeks, so I guess best option is to replace him with a player from one of those 2 teams. I only have one free transfer this week sadly and my thoughts are either:

    Cahill > Adam
    Bent > Drogba - 4 point hit

    Cahill > Gerrard - 4 point hit
    Kolarov > Evatt

    Cahill > Adam

Sadly If i was to swap Cahill for Gerrard straight i'd miss out by 0.1m .... so gutted! After this GW im looking at swapping Distin for Raphael. Trouble is, teams i am chasing have Adam and Drogba in.. so id gain no advantage through those 2 players!

Decisions... thoughs would be appreciated! I am reluctant to take a 4 point hit to be honest..

I'd be very tempted to get rid of Carroll... Can you afford Cahill > Adam and Carroll > Torres? Or maybe Berbatov if you can't afford Torres...

Thanks for the reply... that never crossed my mind so thanks, problem is im 0.2m out! Can afford Berba, but no double gameweek, is he worth the 4 point hit?

    Ok, longwinded RMT posts never get me anywhere on a busy night on this site!...So;

    (1) Hahhn OUT Kingson IN
    (2) PJones OUT BPool Def IN
    (3) Kolorov OUT Skrtel IN

Pick one please for a 4 pointer, or do none? Thanks

I'd do Skrtel in if I had to take the hit.. But i wouldn't take the hit. Liverpool leak goals away from home at times. Not worth a 4 point hit IMO

Jones has to go... And Kolarov may be worth keeping, I'm keeping for the Wolves game next week.

      I vote 2)

+1, carrying dead players isn't good even with a WC around the corner.

Thanks lads. He's not dead, it's just ligaments...Haha!
Seriously, though, is it not just Ok to make him 3rd sub until WC?

Hmmm - this might be a stupid question, but....

Defence (three playing) that I have currently listed in this order.
    Vidic Skrtel Bardsley (Simpson, Kolarov)

Any arguments? I have put Simpson before Kolarov because of the fixture - which may be a stupid idea.

I know SSN will take annoying ad breaks and then tell you how far England are ahead in the cricket between 7pm and 7:30pm but if you are in the dugout chat as soon as it's confirmed someone should have them in there.

I recognised your gravatar btw then saw you have the name to match 🙂

7.31 is too late. Deadline is 7.30. 😕

They will be out before that.

Does anyone know what's up with Evra's yellow tag? Facial injury? I don't wanna lose him for the Stoke game.

Need your help with a DGW straw poll. Had two freebies this week, already done MGP to Adam. Next move is likely to be one of the following:

      1. Nani out for Kuyt - no hit but no Utd cover
      2. Kolarov out for Skrtel and Tevez out for Torres - 4 pts
      3. Kol out for Crainey, Robinson out for Kingson, Bent out for Torres OR Nani out for Gerrard - 8 pts

Hopefully you can all see why the pros and cons at play here. Which would you go for?

To be honest I don't like any. If Nani doesnt play then 1 seems best. Im not to keen on this dgw. Already got Adam but Saving my transfer for the later ones I think but good luck.
