This season, Ian Holloway’s Blackpool have lit up the Premier League with an attacking approach that has been thoroughly refreshing to watch. In spite of this, only Charlie Adam has come under any serious Fantasy consideration so far, with a tendency to catch the Bonus Judges eye almost every time he takes to the pitch.

A culmination of the recent spell of frozen weather and Blackpool’s lack of undersoil heating means that, currently, Holloway’s side now has an eye-watering three Double Gameweeks (GW22, GW 24 & GW 27) over a period of six game weeks, with their fixtures reading (BIR & LIV, wba, SUN & MUN, WHM, eve, AVL & TOT). With that in mind, it would be remiss of us not to run the rule over couple of other alternatives.

Stephen Crainey
Far and away the most attack-minded of the Seasiders’ back four, Crainey has yet to gain the returns his forages forward have merited. A look at the Members Area stats shows just how much more of a potential advantage he holds over the likes of Ian Evatt, Neal Eardley and Craig Cathcart when it comes to going forward.

Although Blackpool have failed to record a clean sheet at Bloomfield Road so far this season, they have scored in every home game and sooner or later, Crainey’s promise of a decent haul will surely come to fruition. On the road, Holloway’s side have also been far better defensively than many appreciate, chalking up five clean sheets, which is, astonishingly, the same number as Man City and Chelsea combined. That stat alone means Crainey (and Blackpool defensive options) are definitely at least worth consideration.

Cairney comes in at £4.1m in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and is owned by 3.8% of managers, though with the Seasiders’ run of fixtures, there’s no doubt his ownership will rise.

Luke Varney
The on-loan Derby man has been overshadowed thus far by Adam, but has scored some cracking goals and shown a consistency of performance that has crept well under the Fantasy radar.

Varney has played a part in all six of Blackpool’s home games and has averaged 5.3 points per game at Blooomfield Road. Indeed, there has only been one home game so far where Varney has failed to either score or assist, as Holloway’s tactics ensure plenty of chances for his forwards.

At just £4.6m, Varney has accumulated 68 FPL points so far, which, in terms of “Value”, makes his fifth-top forward to date. Owned by a mere 2.4% of FPL teams, Varney is certainly showing he has the ability to make his mark at the top level. Such has been his impact, Holloway is keen to make Varney’s stay a permanent one, though there’s no surprise the likes of West Brom are also rumoured to have joined the chase for his signature.

DJ Campbell is also worth a look, though he seems to do better away from home, the polar opposite of Varney. Every one of Campbell’s five league goals this season have came on the road, though he is looking like a man in form right now, with three goals in his last three games.

    Jaask (Foster)
    Coleman, Evatt, Bardsley. (Kolarov), (Jara)
    Fabs, Nani, VDV, Adam(c), (Etherington)
    Drogba, Tevez, Welbeck
    1.4m in the bank

Any changes and/or transfers (would be for point hits) needed here?
Maybe Welbeck -> Varney or Jara -> Crainey

    Thanks

This one time in Champ Mananager, probably about 2000/2001 edition. I was managing Everton and we had about 20 'wrist injuries' in training in 1 season.

What the hell were they training for????????????

Yeah may be worth it. Can always swap your keepers if you need to with your wildcard later on. Id say if that 0.6 can help you with another improvement in your side do it! Having had a quick look i would get rid of Konchesky immediately.

I think he'll play at least once. Woy always harps on about creating his own team at Anfield. Konch is Woy's only real purchase up to now. He's gotta back his man or it amounts to not backing himself.
I'm not including Cole in this of course.

I'm going with Evett. should be fairly sure of 4 points.

And I think "not backing down" hasn't worked for Woy so far, so we're looking at "keeping my job" as his primary focus, and "not getting relegated" as a long term thing.

and maybe that's only because I've never owned Adam before, so don't immediately think of him as (c) material ( though I know what he can do of course). It's odd psychology.

Big article today with interview from him saying he still doesn't feel the same after malaria. Don't think Chelsea can afford to drop him though even at 70-80% he is better than anyone they would bring in ie Sturridge

    Hi Guys;
1 free this week; should i do:
    Robinson to Kingson
    or
    Carroll to Varney?
Thinking the first one as would lose 0.7m on Carroll.

True, but proving a negative is largely impossible.

Not going to get into a debate about it, I was merely suggesting you could have said that you don't think he exists rather than stating it as though it was a given.

OK.. tried to stay away from a RMT but this weeks a real headache, any comments will be appreciated

    Foster (Hahnemann)
    Konchesky Samba GCahill (Shawcross Coleman)
    Nasri (c)Adam MGP Nani VDV
    Drogba Tevez (Carroll)

    Sub order: Carroll, Coleman, Shawcross

1 free transfer with 0.3 in the bank

I've got Nani, Samba & Konchesky who are doubtful and Carroll out so theres a chance I won't even field 11 if I don't make a transfer

I think Shawcross, Coleman & Carroll are keepers, the one I'd probably transfer out would be Samba for Evatt

    Comments please.. thanks!

Samba > Evatt is probably a good move at least for this GW and a lot of people believe Nani may well start tonight. Coleman & Shawcross will probably both play so you will have 11 anyway if you do the Evatt transfer

    Morning all.
This is a bit long-winded but stay with me, I need some help. Just sorted one of my work leagues by "December" to see who won the manager of the month.

My score for GW20 was an atrocious 29 points (don't ask), but when I sort by December, my score for the current week (i.e. the last week of December) shows up as 25. I know what you're thinking - points hit. But at no point in December did I take any hits.

Am I missing something really obvious here?

To say Torres looks to be being 'rested' (rested - yeah right!) one of these DGW games, he should be classed simply as a normal 1 game player this GW, which means I wouldn't have brought him in, if I didn't currently have him.

Rule 1 of double gameweeks: Don't make a transfer based on the DGW. Don't get someone you wouldn't buy if they didn't have a DGW.

I've just broken this rule with the purchase of a blackpool defender.

Not sure if I want Gerrard though. If Konchesky plays one of these games its worth keeping him, otherwise I may get rid either for Crainey or Skrtel.

Cashley has to go too but against Wolves you would think/hope he should have some value this week!

When is everybody using the shiny new wildcard?

I was thinking when looking at the upcoming doucble gameweeks, weeks 27/28 have much jucier double gameweeks than week 24 (example arsenal have WOL, STK)

Therefore, i'm thinking that i will use free transfers up to gw24 to load up on utd players as much as possible (don't fancy any of the other dbl's that week to be high scoring)

Then use the wildcard for say gameweek 25, and load up on double gw27 players. plus, by playing it a couple of weeks before gw27/28, i can take advantage of arsenals nice fixtures pre double gw and make sure i have 2 free subs for gw29 to fix my team back to "normal"

Anybody see any flaws in my cunning plans?

it's a fair enough plan, but because you're planning so much ahead, it could topple down like a house of cards.

And it could leave you with a mess to sort out after the DGWs finish. I'm going to play it fairly straight, although I might try and fit in another big name striker.
