This season, Ian Holloway’s Blackpool have lit up the Premier League with an attacking approach that has been thoroughly refreshing to watch. In spite of this, only Charlie Adam has come under any serious Fantasy consideration so far, with a tendency to catch the Bonus Judges eye almost every time he takes to the pitch.

A culmination of the recent spell of frozen weather and Blackpool’s lack of undersoil heating means that, currently, Holloway’s side now has an eye-watering three Double Gameweeks (GW22, GW 24 & GW 27) over a period of six game weeks, with their fixtures reading (BIR & LIV, wba, SUN & MUN, WHM, eve, AVL & TOT). With that in mind, it would be remiss of us not to run the rule over couple of other alternatives.

Stephen Crainey
Far and away the most attack-minded of the Seasiders’ back four, Crainey has yet to gain the returns his forages forward have merited. A look at the Members Area stats shows just how much more of a potential advantage he holds over the likes of Ian Evatt, Neal Eardley and Craig Cathcart when it comes to going forward.

Although Blackpool have failed to record a clean sheet at Bloomfield Road so far this season, they have scored in every home game and sooner or later, Crainey’s promise of a decent haul will surely come to fruition. On the road, Holloway’s side have also been far better defensively than many appreciate, chalking up five clean sheets, which is, astonishingly, the same number as Man City and Chelsea combined. That stat alone means Crainey (and Blackpool defensive options) are definitely at least worth consideration.

Cairney comes in at £4.1m in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and is owned by 3.8% of managers, though with the Seasiders’ run of fixtures, there’s no doubt his ownership will rise.

Luke Varney
The on-loan Derby man has been overshadowed thus far by Adam, but has scored some cracking goals and shown a consistency of performance that has crept well under the Fantasy radar.

Varney has played a part in all six of Blackpool’s home games and has averaged 5.3 points per game at Blooomfield Road. Indeed, there has only been one home game so far where Varney has failed to either score or assist, as Holloway’s tactics ensure plenty of chances for his forwards.

At just £4.6m, Varney has accumulated 68 FPL points so far, which, in terms of “Value”, makes his fifth-top forward to date. Owned by a mere 2.4% of FPL teams, Varney is certainly showing he has the ability to make his mark at the top level. Such has been his impact, Holloway is keen to make Varney’s stay a permanent one, though there’s no surprise the likes of West Brom are also rumoured to have joined the chase for his signature.

DJ Campbell is also worth a look, though he seems to do better away from home, the polar opposite of Varney. Every one of Campbell’s five league goals this season have came on the road, though he is looking like a man in form right now, with three goals in his last three games.

I have no Liverpool cover for this gameweek, am I mad? I just think they are shite away from home at the moment and dont think it will change anytime soon.

Also for those that have been playing FPL last week seasons do you remember if they double gameweeks were actually worthwhile in terms of points? I seem to have bad memories of my transfers doing sod all!

There was the odd big haul, but for the most part they were disappointing. Rooney got 4 points on more than one occasion, in the middle of an in-form run.

So I'm doing what you're doing and thinking what you're thinking, in the hopes that everyone else destroys their teams to accomodate multiple DGWs

Cheers Soop, good to know im not the only one, yeah I remember the Rooney DGW and also I remember captaining Milner (during his Villa awesomeness) and it got 4 points or something pathetic like that.

I reckon Adam is the only worthwhile transfer for this DGW. At a stretch Varney if people are struggling for strikers.

Rooney also got 26, and Milner cleaned up in his last DGW of the season. Hunt and Dunn were stars earlier in the year. Gambling on a DGW doesn't always work, but I usually go for it - makes it more fun.

True, but Milner had a large number of DGW's as I remember which produced sweet FA. You're right, it could pay off, but I'm not captaining anyone I wouldn't normally. Tevez (c) for me this week.

Why would he ever go to Blackburn. Although I dont understand why more PL clubs arent in for him. He is still amazing enough and I read somewhere Milan will let him go for 10M-ish. I think any of the clubs chasing European football could take him on and even if he only lasts a season or so it would have paid for itself. Look at what the 'rejects' like VDV, Sneidjer etc have achieved.

Team ATM , after using my 2 frees

    Foster
    Kyrgiakos pantsil evatt acole
    Nani vdv Adam (c)
    Rooney drogba tevez

    Subs yaya Morrison. Kolarov

If Rooney is confirmed out before deadline, thinking of Rooney to torres for -4

I think krul to kingson also could easily pay off, and it would allow me to hold my wildcard

Then for week 24 I can bring in Rafael and Rooney for uniteds double

    Wc in week 27

    Thoughts ?

Trading out Rooney now is a little silly IMO. He's clearly getting back into form and Torres isn't exactly a nail on for a double point return this week.

    Foster (Gordon)
    Vidic Kolarov Konchesky (Nelsen Coleman)
    Nasri VDV Nani Adam(c) (N’Zogbia)
    Carroll Tevez Berbatov

    Bank: 4.9, 1 free transfer.

I understand that Nelsen and Coleman may well get brought on if Konchesky, Carroll or Nani don't play. This worries me slightly although I don't want to make any rash changes that I'll regret (will lose loads of $$$ on selling Carroll or Nani).

Worth making any last minute changes?

    Cheers.

Argh still undecided on whether to bench VDV or Barton. Barton has the easy game at home, and he was unlucky not to get 3 assists last match...but vdv is a predator away from home.

That suggests he will be rested over the next few games but also said they need players like Gerrard and Torres to get them up the league. I.e telling Liverpool fans that they don't care about the FA Cup and that's when they'll be rested on Sat

But Hodgson specifically references his injury as a reason he needs to be rested, nothing to do with pitch time as such.

Morning, gents!Already done Cahill->Adam and Salcido->Evatt with the two freebies.Team as it stands:

        Foster,
        Evatt,Coleman,Jara,
        Nani(C),Nasri,VdV,Adam,Barton,
        Drog,Tevez.

        Subs: Krul,Kolarov,D.Collins,Carroll.(4.5 in the bank)

I wanted to do Carroll->Varney as well for -4,but am not sure since I might very well be going with 5 in midfield this week.Other options are:

        A) maybe beef up the defence with D.Collins->Rafael/Skrtel and put one of Jara or Coleman on the bench?Or perhaps

        B) do Nasri->Gerrard?(although I have no belief in Liverpool and see no reason why their crappy away form should suddenly change, but just because of the DGW let's consider him.)

        C) Carroll->Ngog?

        D) Krul->Kingson?

I'm open to any other suggestions.Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Sorry misread, I thought it was for a freebie. Just play Foster as it isn't worth a hit.

I have Gerrard as captain, but it's probably because I want Liverpool to come good. And I don't really expect a clean sheet in the 2 away games.

If Nani doesn't start, I would do Carroll > Varney/DJ for a hit.

thanks both. Next week looks like a good GW, this one looks terrible.

Yup - 1st year. I just assumed it would be 7:30pm my time. At least it means I still have more time than the people who forget to set alarms and wake up 15 minutes too late. 😉

(I knew something was up when I came on here and there wasn't 10s of pages of Carroll/Elmander/... ->Varney/DJ for 4pt hit worth it? questions)

Roque Santa Cruz would rather go play for Lazio than go back to Blackburn! hahaa, Ronaldinho must be licking his lips at their offer.
