This season, Ian Holloway’s Blackpool have lit up the Premier League with an attacking approach that has been thoroughly refreshing to watch. In spite of this, only Charlie Adam has come under any serious Fantasy consideration so far, with a tendency to catch the Bonus Judges eye almost every time he takes to the pitch.

A culmination of the recent spell of frozen weather and Blackpool’s lack of undersoil heating means that, currently, Holloway’s side now has an eye-watering three Double Gameweeks (GW22, GW 24 & GW 27) over a period of six game weeks, with their fixtures reading (BIR & LIV, wba, SUN & MUN, WHM, eve, AVL & TOT). With that in mind, it would be remiss of us not to run the rule over couple of other alternatives.

Stephen Crainey
Far and away the most attack-minded of the Seasiders’ back four, Crainey has yet to gain the returns his forages forward have merited. A look at the Members Area stats shows just how much more of a potential advantage he holds over the likes of Ian Evatt, Neal Eardley and Craig Cathcart when it comes to going forward.

Although Blackpool have failed to record a clean sheet at Bloomfield Road so far this season, they have scored in every home game and sooner or later, Crainey’s promise of a decent haul will surely come to fruition. On the road, Holloway’s side have also been far better defensively than many appreciate, chalking up five clean sheets, which is, astonishingly, the same number as Man City and Chelsea combined. That stat alone means Crainey (and Blackpool defensive options) are definitely at least worth consideration.

Cairney comes in at £4.1m in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and is owned by 3.8% of managers, though with the Seasiders’ run of fixtures, there’s no doubt his ownership will rise.

Luke Varney
The on-loan Derby man has been overshadowed thus far by Adam, but has scored some cracking goals and shown a consistency of performance that has crept well under the Fantasy radar.

Varney has played a part in all six of Blackpool’s home games and has averaged 5.3 points per game at Blooomfield Road. Indeed, there has only been one home game so far where Varney has failed to either score or assist, as Holloway’s tactics ensure plenty of chances for his forwards.

At just £4.6m, Varney has accumulated 68 FPL points so far, which, in terms of “Value”, makes his fifth-top forward to date. Owned by a mere 2.4% of FPL teams, Varney is certainly showing he has the ability to make his mark at the top level. Such has been his impact, Holloway is keen to make Varney’s stay a permanent one, though there’s no surprise the likes of West Brom are also rumoured to have joined the chase for his signature.

DJ Campbell is also worth a look, though he seems to do better away from home, the polar opposite of Varney. Every one of Campbell’s five league goals this season have came on the road, though he is looking like a man in form right now, with three goals in his last three games.

Which of these, if any, would you do for a 4 point hit?

    1) Silva, MGP > Cleverley, VDV (Clev for the double, plus both are playing at home in GW23. My team is full of away boys)

    2) Baines, Silva > Crainey, Fabregas

    3) Baines, Silva > Crainey, Nani (if he plays. I will probably miss the window between the teams being announced and the deadline tonight)

All of them leave enough money for Paul Robinson > Reina for another 4 pointer, which I'm quite tempted by.

Silva has been close to good scores, I've been impressed with his performances. But he's been heavily involved without getting points, which is frustrating. So with his injury, this might be the time to move on.

As for Reina, I'd be playing Carson with Robinson's injury. So will Reina get 4 more than Carson? Over the next 3 gameweeks, I'm certain he would, and a decent chance of it this week alone. And I'd rather play Reina than Robinson in GW24 (if he is back by then).

Current lineup (with 0.1 in the bank & one freebie)

        Foster (Mignolet)
Konchesky / Rafael / Taylor (Kolarov, Coleman)
        Nasri / VdV / Fabregas / Nani / Bale
        Berbatov / Tevez (Piquionne)

Righty hoo, captain Adam or Torres? S'pose I should be sensible & go with the 2 homes for Adam. But Blackburn are apparently 'depleted' & Blackpool will surely concede, so Torres wouldn't be an insane choice either. Any advice ye gentlefolk?

Adam I think, or there is a little gut feeling for Crainey as a risk. Though that gut feeling might be the cheerio's I had earlier.
Torres has the potential to be rested according to the Independent.

Yeah i took 4 pts hit Nzog --> Adam and Ken Jones --> Varney

so, my current team looks like this :

        Jask

        Konch Kyrgiakos Rafael Vidic
        Adam (c) Bale VDV
        Torres Varney Tevez

        subs : MGP -- Henderson -- Onuoha

Do you think Konch and Kyrgiakos will start both games? or should I put Henderson back in?

any comment will be greatly appreciated

        a) Gerrard
        b) Adam

        Robinson, Carson
        A. Cole, Konchesky, Evra, Kolarov, Bardsley
        VDV, Nani, Adam, Yaya, Gerrard
        Berb, Carroll, Tevez

I’m also thinking of taking a 4 point hit to get Kingston in, worth it?

For short term - Kingson is the man, but if you are looking for a permanent keeper, sell Krul and buy Hart as ou can rotate between Robinson and Hart (These two team's Home and Away games alternates usually well)

          Consider Stockdale (Fulham).Schwarzer is absent. Cheap-as-chips (3.9)
Nice fixtures (WBA, wig. DGW for STOKE & liv. NEWC, Villa.

When Swarzer returns, and/or fixtures get tricky, transfer him out with the Wild Card.

Surely he'll do any resting vs Man U. Liverpool are unlikely to win there with a strong team, and unlikely to beat both Blackies with a weakened one. I'm sure Gerrard and Torres will play the league matches.

Sorry for the repost but need some more opinions:

Already done Cahill->Adam and Salcido->Evatt with the two freebies.Team as it stands:

            Foster,
            Evatt,Coleman,Jara,
            Nani(C),Nasri,VdV,Adam,Barton,
            Drog,Tevez.

            Subs: Krul,Kolarov,D.Collins,Carroll.(4.5 in the bank)

I wanted to do Carroll->Varney as well for -4,but am not sure since I might very well be going with 5 in midfield this week.Other options are:

            A) maybe beef up the defence with D.Collins->Rafael/Skrtel and put one of Jara or Coleman on the bench?Or perhaps,

            B) do Nasri->Gerrard?(although I have no belief in Liverpool and see no reason why their crappy away form should suddenly change, but just because of the DGW let’s consider him.)

Or maybe also Carroll->Ngog?Any opinions will be much appreciated.Thanks.

If your going to transfer I'd do either:

              Collins >>> Evatt/Crainey

Krul >>> Kingson (and then play him)

I have the same starting team as you except for Rafael instead of Jara and I'm also considering Carroll --> Varney for a 4 pointer but don't think I will be doing it because it would mean benching Barton which I don't really want to do as he has been a nice point scorer for me.

I think if you're going to do anything it has to be A and bench Jara because I'd be pretty suprised if he got a cleanie but a 4 point for a defender? Quite a big risk with little reward, except if Skrtel gets 2 cleanies which isn't going to happen...

Exactly! That's why I don't want to buy Varney as well,Barton has been doing some fine work.So it will be A.Who should I get in,mate?Rafael or Skrtel?Rafael has a nailed-on cleanie against Stoke plus maybe an assist or some BPS,but Skrtel plays twice this week and carries a threat from set-pieces.
