This season, Ian Holloway’s Blackpool have lit up the Premier League with an attacking approach that has been thoroughly refreshing to watch. In spite of this, only Charlie Adam has come under any serious Fantasy consideration so far, with a tendency to catch the Bonus Judges eye almost every time he takes to the pitch.

A culmination of the recent spell of frozen weather and Blackpool’s lack of undersoil heating means that, currently, Holloway’s side now has an eye-watering three Double Gameweeks (GW22, GW 24 & GW 27) over a period of six game weeks, with their fixtures reading (BIR & LIV, wba, SUN & MUN, WHM, eve, AVL & TOT). With that in mind, it would be remiss of us not to run the rule over couple of other alternatives.

Stephen Crainey
Far and away the most attack-minded of the Seasiders’ back four, Crainey has yet to gain the returns his forages forward have merited. A look at the Members Area stats shows just how much more of a potential advantage he holds over the likes of Ian Evatt, Neal Eardley and Craig Cathcart when it comes to going forward.

Although Blackpool have failed to record a clean sheet at Bloomfield Road so far this season, they have scored in every home game and sooner or later, Crainey’s promise of a decent haul will surely come to fruition. On the road, Holloway’s side have also been far better defensively than many appreciate, chalking up five clean sheets, which is, astonishingly, the same number as Man City and Chelsea combined. That stat alone means Crainey (and Blackpool defensive options) are definitely at least worth consideration.

Cairney comes in at £4.1m in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and is owned by 3.8% of managers, though with the Seasiders’ run of fixtures, there’s no doubt his ownership will rise.

Luke Varney
The on-loan Derby man has been overshadowed thus far by Adam, but has scored some cracking goals and shown a consistency of performance that has crept well under the Fantasy radar.

Varney has played a part in all six of Blackpool’s home games and has averaged 5.3 points per game at Blooomfield Road. Indeed, there has only been one home game so far where Varney has failed to either score or assist, as Holloway’s tactics ensure plenty of chances for his forwards.

At just £4.6m, Varney has accumulated 68 FPL points so far, which, in terms of “Value”, makes his fifth-top forward to date. Owned by a mere 2.4% of FPL teams, Varney is certainly showing he has the ability to make his mark at the top level. Such has been his impact, Holloway is keen to make Varney’s stay a permanent one, though there’s no surprise the likes of West Brom are also rumoured to have joined the chase for his signature.

DJ Campbell is also worth a look, though he seems to do better away from home, the polar opposite of Varney. Every one of Campbell’s five league goals this season have came on the road, though he is looking like a man in form right now, with three goals in his last three games.

Anyone know the most reliable place for team news prior to kick off tomorrow? Willing to sacrifice min 0.2 on getting Blackpool players in on the team news. I'm thinking Sporting Life so far but any suggestions would be good. Gracias.

Not in the slightest, he's a nothing player. But he works reasonably hard so the people love him.

Holden is a much better player and would probably be a helluva lot cheaper.

He isnt exactly dare I say "world class".

Not exactly going to set the world alight is he now. Our midfield (centre) is dire and has no creativity. Henderson isnt going to help

This is like Milner all over again from last season.
English player. standout season. etc etc.

        Solid and not spectacular.

Ireland still would do a better job at creating than Henderson.

Agreed but he is the type of player they need.

If he plays 4 3 3 in Europe then somebody has to create from midfield and keep possesion

It seems people are forgetting Barca 2009 when United couldnt get the ball or keep it.

Didn't Anderson used to be more of an attacking mid? How about getting him back to that and someone (but preferably not) like Tiote as a midfield ball winner. United's main creativity comes through the flanks anyway, esp. when Scholes is out.

The creativity from the wings is fine in the PL but im talking about upper level in europe.

Its all about possesion and a midfield creator to unlock the door.

Thats been the basis over the last few years
                    Xavi, Sneider, Ronaldinho, Pirlo, etc.

Tiote is a nice talent but a mug after his "acting" over the weekend.

Ta. My view is Skrtel too. I'm really not sure that Crainey is worth it even given Blackpool's DGWs. And he's had no goals or assists either. Plus their cleanies seem to come away from home bizarrely and mainly home games coming up.

Skrtel - he has Fulham home and wolves away as a double in 24. Plus this week (blackburn/blackpool). They're much more likely to get a clean sheet than blackpool. if you can afford skrtel, for for him instead.

I paid £5m for Carroll. Would I be mental to transfer him out for Varney as it'd cost me £0.7m to get him back in a couple of games?

So far my tram for the week is:

    Foster
    Konchesky Vidic Bisingwa (Foley Bardsley)
Nani MGP Bale Nasri Adam (c)
    Tevez Torres (Carroll)

I'm thinking of shipping out MGP. Any suggestions? One free transfer, £2m in the bank.

I see one recommendation above for keeping Carroll. That's the way I'm leaning but not sure what to tinker with elsewhere. Not bothered about saving the transfer as a WC looks tempting for next week.

      You will regret selling Carroll.

MGP is a good transfer out but I would save it until you can afford a meaningful replacement. I'm doing Cahill > Adam and MGP > Gerrard.

In my opinion, if you think Torres will play most of the minutes (not get injured/rested) between now and GW 24, then it is a good transfer.

I think Torres will be rested/injured for a portion of the double gw run, meaning he is not worth the gamble of releasing Tevez.

Having a bit of trouble deciding what to do with Konchesky? With a DG do I stick him in or is Aurelio going to be preferred? What's the story on Hutton? Why did he only get 26 minutes last??

I agree - and Cesc at 11.8 is a steal. I just picked him up yesterday and as long as he is fit he is on my team.

DGWs are over-rated in some ways. The extra game squeezed in means more of a chance of a player being rested/injured/rotated

To be fair, if Tevez plays against Wolves he could get more points then Torres will in 4 GW's. Whose to say Torres will play every game aswell, Liverpool have a lot of games within a short space of time, expect some sort of rotation.

Getting rid of a proven FPL pts scorer in Baines for someone with a promise of a pts haul is silly, double or not. If you want Crainey so much swap him for another defender. Ferguson to Adam is an excellent move on the other hand.
