This season, Ian Holloway’s Blackpool have lit up the Premier League with an attacking approach that has been thoroughly refreshing to watch. In spite of this, only Charlie Adam has come under any serious Fantasy consideration so far, with a tendency to catch the Bonus Judges eye almost every time he takes to the pitch.

A culmination of the recent spell of frozen weather and Blackpool’s lack of undersoil heating means that, currently, Holloway’s side now has an eye-watering three Double Gameweeks (GW22, GW 24 & GW 27) over a period of six game weeks, with their fixtures reading (BIR & LIV, wba, SUN & MUN, WHM, eve, AVL & TOT). With that in mind, it would be remiss of us not to run the rule over couple of other alternatives.

Stephen Crainey
Far and away the most attack-minded of the Seasiders’ back four, Crainey has yet to gain the returns his forages forward have merited. A look at the Members Area stats shows just how much more of a potential advantage he holds over the likes of Ian Evatt, Neal Eardley and Craig Cathcart when it comes to going forward.

Although Blackpool have failed to record a clean sheet at Bloomfield Road so far this season, they have scored in every home game and sooner or later, Crainey’s promise of a decent haul will surely come to fruition. On the road, Holloway’s side have also been far better defensively than many appreciate, chalking up five clean sheets, which is, astonishingly, the same number as Man City and Chelsea combined. That stat alone means Crainey (and Blackpool defensive options) are definitely at least worth consideration.

Cairney comes in at £4.1m in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and is owned by 3.8% of managers, though with the Seasiders’ run of fixtures, there’s no doubt his ownership will rise.

Luke Varney
The on-loan Derby man has been overshadowed thus far by Adam, but has scored some cracking goals and shown a consistency of performance that has crept well under the Fantasy radar.

Varney has played a part in all six of Blackpool’s home games and has averaged 5.3 points per game at Blooomfield Road. Indeed, there has only been one home game so far where Varney has failed to either score or assist, as Holloway’s tactics ensure plenty of chances for his forwards.

At just £4.6m, Varney has accumulated 68 FPL points so far, which, in terms of “Value”, makes his fifth-top forward to date. Owned by a mere 2.4% of FPL teams, Varney is certainly showing he has the ability to make his mark at the top level. Such has been his impact, Holloway is keen to make Varney’s stay a permanent one, though there’s no surprise the likes of West Brom are also rumoured to have joined the chase for his signature.

DJ Campbell is also worth a look, though he seems to do better away from home, the polar opposite of Varney. Every one of Campbell’s five league goals this season have came on the road, though he is looking like a man in form right now, with three goals in his last three games.

    WC team for GW23

    Kingson Al-Habsi
    Kolarov Rafael Coleman Jara Crainey
    Fabregas Nano VDV N’Zogbia Adam
    Torres Tevez Carroll

    Bank: 0.6

Do I have Coleman or Konchesky?
And how is the team? As much as I lime it I don’t feel there’s a big differential in there to give me an advantage?

I was questioning the relevance of your comment (to the comment you were replying to) not the validity of the statement you made. I was also making my own little dig at Anelka (suggesting that RVP even not at his sharpest was better than Anelka but that was probably a little bit too subtle for you). I'm also fairly comfortable that nothing I said was factually inaccurate so I'm not sure what facts I'm meant to be getting 'right'.

What do people reckon to this masterplan:

    1) MGP > Adam
    2) Kolarov > Crainey
    3) Robinson > Kingson
    3) Cleverley > Gerrard

12 point hit leaves team of:

    Kingson (Carson)
    Rafael Kyrgiakos Crainey (Jara Bardsley)
    Nani VDV Nasri Adam Gerrard
    Tevez Torres (Carroll)

12pt hit seldom works. WC is hours away, why take 12 point hit when you can fix team for free?

Overkill to double up on BP defence. Only get 1 of gerrard/torres.

Contemplating transfers for this gameweek, and I am thinking about doing the following transfers.

Ta. A couple of leave Nasris on the bench - interesting. Part of my thinking was Stoke defence pretty sturdy too so can't see Man U scoring a shedload. But I guess City defence may halt Nasri progress too.

    Replies:

RvP - not a bad call if he doesn't get injured - may bring him in for GW27 myself.

Simon - Konchesky was dropped, if you read reports it looks like he was looking to be shipped off to West Ham but was blocked by FIFA due to the 3 transfers rule.

    My question:

Team for the week coming - comments on captain/subs:

    Foster
    Rafael/Simpson/Kolarov
    VdV/Nani/Nasri/Adam
    Carroll/Tevez/Torres(c)

    Hart/MGP/Coleman/Bardsley

Second question - post GW27, whose on a good rotation with Foster in the sub 4.6/4.7 range thinking between Begovic/Robinson/Al'Habsi

He knows very little about football.

Throw an error at a random poster here and they know as much a Andy Gray.

All he can add is "in my day that wasnt a foul"

And yes he said both those things and makes numerous gaffes about the PL too. Like at the weekend when he said Wigan have an excellent home record and recently gave City a tough game losing 1- 0.

I bought him in and Im quite happy with the move. Didnt realise other guy more attacking but thats stats and they dont mean everything in this game..not by a long way.

Heres hoping Torres does the business this DGW!

Being a liverpool fan, who was stung by signing 3 liverpool players in early nov (torres - shortly after his chelsea double, kuyt and mierles, when stevie G got injured), and being loyal to these players after poor perfomances has seen me slip from roughly 35,00 to 120,000 (along with one or tow other bad signings). So i say be careful of signing any liverpool players, until they get a run going.

Will Torres/Gerrard only play one of the dgw? With Man Utd sandwiched in between, surely the FA Cup is the only chance to win a trophy - i.e. the bigger game?

I'd say Torres will probably be rested at some point in the doublegamweek. Thats why its risky to get him. Gerrard has a better chance of playing both games.

I think Woy knows his job is not far from being on a shoogly peg, and will play his strongest team in all league games now - so I think they'll play both.

Funny to see Crainey's name flung around like he's Jesus tonight, when last night it was Evatt. Looking at the stats, Crainey and Eardley are much better options than Evatt, but of course, because he was the highest scoring Blackpool defender the masses went for him.

Personally I'd only consider a Blackpool defender if I was certain Konchesky wouldn't play either match. Anyone want to clear that one up for me?

Keeping Carroll I think, if he's back in a couple of weeks then its not worth losing all that cash with a WC on the way. Konchesky a much more worrying problem, I'll probably stick with him and hope - going to get a Blackpool defender in for Tamas for my move this week.

Would they shift THAT much? I was going to do it too but decided to take the boring option, with a Blackpool defender coming in I have two BPool and two LPool, which considering how inconsistent everything is, is quite enough.......... I hope! 🙂

I love a DGW as much as anyone else, but there's a lot of madness going around.

      Let's not forget:

      1 game Nasri > 2 game Adam
      1 game Nani > 2 game Gerrard
      1 game Tevez > 4 game Torres

        Tevez over Torres

Will be interesting to see how it pans out.

Over the course of the season, maybe I'd agree. But this is a tough GW for Arse and City, Nani is doubtful but probably a good bet, although I'm backing Gerrard for about 10 points this GW - (4 for playing 2 assists or 1 goal and some BPs)
