This season, Ian Holloway’s Blackpool have lit up the Premier League with an attacking approach that has been thoroughly refreshing to watch. In spite of this, only Charlie Adam has come under any serious Fantasy consideration so far, with a tendency to catch the Bonus Judges eye almost every time he takes to the pitch.

A culmination of the recent spell of frozen weather and Blackpool’s lack of undersoil heating means that, currently, Holloway’s side now has an eye-watering three Double Gameweeks (GW22, GW 24 & GW 27) over a period of six game weeks, with their fixtures reading (BIR & LIV, wba, SUN & MUN, WHM, eve, AVL & TOT). With that in mind, it would be remiss of us not to run the rule over couple of other alternatives.

Stephen Crainey
Far and away the most attack-minded of the Seasiders’ back four, Crainey has yet to gain the returns his forages forward have merited. A look at the Members Area stats shows just how much more of a potential advantage he holds over the likes of Ian Evatt, Neal Eardley and Craig Cathcart when it comes to going forward.

Although Blackpool have failed to record a clean sheet at Bloomfield Road so far this season, they have scored in every home game and sooner or later, Crainey’s promise of a decent haul will surely come to fruition. On the road, Holloway’s side have also been far better defensively than many appreciate, chalking up five clean sheets, which is, astonishingly, the same number as Man City and Chelsea combined. That stat alone means Crainey (and Blackpool defensive options) are definitely at least worth consideration.

Cairney comes in at £4.1m in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and is owned by 3.8% of managers, though with the Seasiders’ run of fixtures, there’s no doubt his ownership will rise.

Luke Varney
The on-loan Derby man has been overshadowed thus far by Adam, but has scored some cracking goals and shown a consistency of performance that has crept well under the Fantasy radar.

Varney has played a part in all six of Blackpool’s home games and has averaged 5.3 points per game at Blooomfield Road. Indeed, there has only been one home game so far where Varney has failed to either score or assist, as Holloway’s tactics ensure plenty of chances for his forwards.

At just £4.6m, Varney has accumulated 68 FPL points so far, which, in terms of “Value”, makes his fifth-top forward to date. Owned by a mere 2.4% of FPL teams, Varney is certainly showing he has the ability to make his mark at the top level. Such has been his impact, Holloway is keen to make Varney’s stay a permanent one, though there’s no surprise the likes of West Brom are also rumoured to have joined the chase for his signature.

DJ Campbell is also worth a look, though he seems to do better away from home, the polar opposite of Varney. Every one of Campbell’s five league goals this season have came on the road, though he is looking like a man in form right now, with three goals in his last three games.

How gutted would everyone be if the snow returned after the FA Cup and Blackpool v Liverpool got cancelled again?

That said, I still think I'll bring in atleast 1 Blackpool player, most likely Varney for Carroll. I'm undecided with dropping either Tevez or Fabregas to accomodate for Torres or Gerrard.

Unless you're hurting for a captain, I'd say no. Drogba's matchups are good. Rooney will have a DGW in 24 (and a good matchup tomorrow, should he play). And Tevez is pretty much essential, this past weekend notwithstanding.

(That said, I have Torres, and not Drogba or Rooney -- though I will have Rooney in GW24.)

Does anyone hear have any understanding of how the metro game is sorting blackpool liverpool into it's game weeks??? I'm 34th in the overall metro league currently and 6th in the ffscout metro mini league league (if you count the many lawes teams as legal, otherwise 4th) and really dont want to mess it up!!!!

Any help would be appreciated 🙂

Andy has asked the guys who run the Metro game the question as it's totally unclear at the moment. The fixtures for the next gameweek don't include the Blackpool-Liverpool game at the moment so on of three things is going to happen:

      1. the game will be added to the current gameweek
      2. update the upcoming gameweek's fixtures to include it
      3. they'll ignore it completely

None of those is very satisfactory in my opinion but we should know tomorrow when the guys are back at work.

Ah was wondering that one myself... I assumed it was added to this week and had been kicking myself for missing it.

thinking about it though, there is a 4th option that they will play a gameweek with just one fixture in it so that they keep with the whole new gameweek starts every saturday thing. Gameweek 4 had no games in it at all because of the international break, so this looks the most likely thing to happen

Yeah OK, 4th option is a variation of option 2 above. Changing the upcoming fixtures for the next gameweek would be totally unfair on players who have made transfers based upon the already published list of fixtures.

The game is on the 'live scores' calendar so my money is on it being added to the currently open week... but I don't remember it being on the published list. I'm annoyed (maybe at myself) as I would've got one or more of Adam, Stevie G, Torres in had I known.

No, I agree. I think there going to put it on the end of this game week. I feel sorry for anyone who wastes a transfer this saturday that won come into affect till a week later, especially if they decide to take a hit and the dont have the transfer for the next game week. Metro really need to sort there lack of clarification out generally!

Doesn't look like they'll ignore it completely as the fixture is in the live scoring on the website. so it's on this game week unless they shift it to the next. If they do make it a one match week will be interesting to see what people do. Thanks for your help guys

Share your opinion on the scoring system/layout. It wasn't published as being on the current gameweek, as well as not on the next, Peeople have been bringing in players for the fixture. Whatever they do now it's going to be unfair on someone!!

cleverley might get recalled, but the rest are all strikers and they are overloaded in that position already. obertan is a winger and gibson mf, so makes sense if you think about where they need backup and where they're in excess.

You know better than me but I would want my absolute best squad around me in such a tight league. Especially with the noisy neighbours hot on your tail. Rotation could be the key this year. You only have 3 strikers from what I can see, and can they all play together? Oh and Owen of course.

i really think that only cleverley would do us any good. what's a surplus of strikers going to do when we have 3 and owen when we sometimes even play rooney as a lone striker? are you suggesting that we keep them instead of people in their natural positions and play them out of position instead if it came down to it? i leave the managing to fergie and think he knows better than us fantasy gurus what he's doing. does the others better to develop and get some quality minutes elsewhere, especially as far as strikers are concerned to develop confidence and adapt to first team prem football. they're not ready for the pressure as a united striker.

Adam is a strong choice, very likely to score well. However, could easily be outscored Drogba against Wolves and it's getting cold again so 'pool game could be prosponed again.

    Hi fellas,
    I'm thinking:
    1) Carroll -> Varney (4pt hit) and bench Bale (or someone else)
    2) Krul -> Kingson (4pt hit) and bench Foster
    3) no hit, play Foster and Bale

In other words, how likely is that Varney will outscore Bale by 4 points or Kingson will outscore Foster by 4 points?
What would you do and why?

ps Already did Salcido -> Evatt.

    two questions for you all

    1) am i crazy to play kolarov instead of simpson (H to west ham) & bardsley(A to villa)

    2) who to replace robbo with

kingson, stockdale or begovic? (needs to be 0.3 cheaper than robbo)

also i think konchesky will start

      1) Not crazy, Newcastle don't keep many CS and Simpson doesn't offer a lot going forward, in comparison to Kolarov. Also expecting AV to score at home, should be on a high after the Chelsea match

      2) Begovic's place may be under threat so could be a risky option

If Charlie Adam played 2 for everyone elses 1, he'd theoretically be a 9.6 Points Per Game midfielder with 164 points on the board.

VDV is currently the highest in the former category with 7.2 PPG and Cahill leads the field with 107 on the latter.

We all know that Adam could end up with next to nothing but he is the logical choice for Captaincy this game week.
