This season, Ian Holloway’s Blackpool have lit up the Premier League with an attacking approach that has been thoroughly refreshing to watch. In spite of this, only Charlie Adam has come under any serious Fantasy consideration so far, with a tendency to catch the Bonus Judges eye almost every time he takes to the pitch.

A culmination of the recent spell of frozen weather and Blackpool’s lack of undersoil heating means that, currently, Holloway’s side now has an eye-watering three Double Gameweeks (GW22, GW 24 & GW 27) over a period of six game weeks, with their fixtures reading (BIR & LIV, wba, SUN & MUN, WHM, eve, AVL & TOT). With that in mind, it would be remiss of us not to run the rule over couple of other alternatives.

Stephen Crainey
Far and away the most attack-minded of the Seasiders’ back four, Crainey has yet to gain the returns his forages forward have merited. A look at the Members Area stats shows just how much more of a potential advantage he holds over the likes of Ian Evatt, Neal Eardley and Craig Cathcart when it comes to going forward.

Although Blackpool have failed to record a clean sheet at Bloomfield Road so far this season, they have scored in every home game and sooner or later, Crainey’s promise of a decent haul will surely come to fruition. On the road, Holloway’s side have also been far better defensively than many appreciate, chalking up five clean sheets, which is, astonishingly, the same number as Man City and Chelsea combined. That stat alone means Crainey (and Blackpool defensive options) are definitely at least worth consideration.

Cairney comes in at £4.1m in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and is owned by 3.8% of managers, though with the Seasiders’ run of fixtures, there’s no doubt his ownership will rise.

Luke Varney
The on-loan Derby man has been overshadowed thus far by Adam, but has scored some cracking goals and shown a consistency of performance that has crept well under the Fantasy radar.

Varney has played a part in all six of Blackpool’s home games and has averaged 5.3 points per game at Blooomfield Road. Indeed, there has only been one home game so far where Varney has failed to either score or assist, as Holloway’s tactics ensure plenty of chances for his forwards.

At just £4.6m, Varney has accumulated 68 FPL points so far, which, in terms of “Value”, makes his fifth-top forward to date. Owned by a mere 2.4% of FPL teams, Varney is certainly showing he has the ability to make his mark at the top level. Such has been his impact, Holloway is keen to make Varney’s stay a permanent one, though there’s no surprise the likes of West Brom are also rumoured to have joined the chase for his signature.

DJ Campbell is also worth a look, though he seems to do better away from home, the polar opposite of Varney. Every one of Campbell’s five league goals this season have came on the road, though he is looking like a man in form right now, with three goals in his last three games.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Option 1

    evatt In - jara Out
    varney In - tevez out

    Adam
    Torres
    For a 4 point hit

    Or Option 3

    Crainey In - Konchesky Out

    Kingson Foster
    Cole Vidic Kolarov Bardsley Simpson
    Nani VdV Nasri Adam Cleverley
    Drogba Tevez Carroll

    Options:
    A) Kolarov -> Skrtel
    B) Carroll -> DJ
    C) Carroll -> Varney
    D) Nani & Cole -> Skrtel & Gerrard (if Nani is out)
    E) Tevez -> Torres

    I have Charlie Adam as captain and Evatt in defence.....I can see the DGW panning out like this.......
    Charlie wakes up tomorrow morning not feeling well, suffering from flu, rings up Ian Holloway and explains that Evatt should play upfront, Holloway agrees.......
    .........the match kicks off (15 minutes late due to floodlight failure) Evatt plays well but Charlie, in true Roy of the Rovers style steals the show with a second half hattrick, one with his left, one with his right and of course, a header from his own half

    Adams - 3 goals, 3 bps = 17 * 2 = 34 points
    Evatt - 3 assists and a cleanie 2bps = 17 points

    The secod game against Liverpool was postponed due to Bloomfield road resembling the Tundra regions of Northern Russia.......hey ho!

    Right lads, now decided to do the following:

    Kolarov to Skrtel

    This is the first option that I'm reasonably happy with, as not sold on a Blackpool defender at all and don't fancy dropping Nasri, Bale, Carroll etc.

    Look ok?

      i wouldn't touch a liverpool defender w/a 10 ft. pole. they're as unpredictable as their merseyside neighbors except don't have a baines/coleman type w/as much as an offensive threat for value. johnson is a rip off as a lot of players are priced based on scores from two seasons ago.

          If you have 7 injured or unavailable players it is. Depends on the quality you bring in.

            depends on the length of the injuries/bans...

            very very unlikely to be worth it.

              1 player could cover the hit by himself if you captained him. I dislike hits but have seen too many work for others to disregard doing them.

        In my opinion definitely if you think Gerrard will play full 90 mins for both games

    alright lads,
    i could do with some help before my sleep meds kick in.

    Foster,
    Konchesky, Coleman, S Taylor
    VDV, Dunn, Nasri, Nani
    Drogba, Torres, Tevez
    Subs - Begovic, Albrighton, Bardsley, Jara

    I have 2 free transfers.

    Dunn -> Adam (c) will happen no matter what...

    Is it worth doing another xfer (i.e. Jara to Crainey)? I want to play Taylor and Coleman really...

    Hi everyone, I would appreciate any helpful tips for possible transfers for this week...

    My team currently is:
    Gordon, Mingolet, Vidic, Sagna, Cola A, Bains, Bardsley, Van der Vaart, Nolan, Yaya Toure, Nani, Jarvis, Tevez, Torres, Carroll

    I'm thinking:
    Adam for Jarvis
    Gerrard for Nani
    Campbell for Carroll
    (8 point hit)

      Id only do Adam for Jarvis.

        Good idea but I was thinking Campbell is likely to get 8 points minimum whereas Carroll is just a lost cause this week and that would cover my 8 point hit

          Nani could still outscore Gerrard this week.

      I'll start by saying that have way too much money invested in your defence and you need to address that in wc, e.g coleman and rafael instead of baines and vidic allow you to get a better midfield.

      Definitely the 1st transfer, not as keen on second two as I'm guessing you'll lose a lot of value on Nani and Carroll when they're back they're very good point scorers. And if Nani returns against Stoke, it may take a lot for Gerrard to outscore Nani by 4 points. Last transfer, suppose it may be worth a gamble with the 5 games Campbell has compared to Carroll's 1 / 2.

    i wish i had realized the double gw for liverpool before bringing in fabs in for cahill earlier. would have done gerrard instead then fabs w/the wildcard ahead. now i have zero liverpool coverage unless i'm willing to take a hit to bring in torres and everyone seems to be against that idea.

      I'm not sure you're missing too much...I currently have just Reina since he seems pretty safe for 6-10 points
