With Wildcards fluttering madly, the timing of the update to our Watchlist player rankings couldn’t be better. You’ll find our current thinking in your sidebar on the frontpage.

Arsenal’s forthcoming run of obliging opponents, coupled with a delicious double in Gameweek 27 is behind their boost to their assets this week. While Samir Nasri has strong coverage in squads across the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, now might be the time to contemplate further Gunners investment with the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Robin Van Persie and even Johan Djourou earning attention and high placings in our tables.

Joe Hart’s showing at the Emirates that helped to fetch Man City their twelfth clean sheet of the season did little to shake his position atop our Goalkeeper rankings. Hart and City don’t benefit from any double Gameweeks but his fixtures remain favourable enough to see him hold that position. Edwin Van der Sar with two double Gameweeks, is his nearest rival with Wigan’s Al-Habsi providing the most desirable budget option with three home games in the next four to come. Arsenal’s Lucasz Fabianski is back in the Gunners goal and in form with two consecutive clean sheets – his forthcoming opponents, including that kind double in Gameweek 27, appear to offer the potential for him to go on delivering value in the mid-price bracket.

Finding five defenders to recommend at this time is a major task. With Chelsea in continuous decline, Roberto Mancini rotating heavily and Liverpool looking alarmingly frail, the options are largely cut to low and mid-price selections.

United’s Rafael holds on to top spot as he continues to offer value in a relatively solid United backline that has two doubles on the horizon. The Brazilian should be protected from rotation given Gary Neville’s recent performance at West Brom, although John O’Shea (when fit) and Wes Brown could become factors.

Below the United man, Everton’s Seamus Coleman climbs with outstanding form – damaging his team-mate Leighton Baines’ appeal in the process. Coleman now looks to have cemented the right midfield role and provides superb value at 5.0 in the FPL. Wigan’s Antolin Alcaraz is perhaps a punt in our top five, but short-term fixtures and his Bonus Point potential has him climb to third spot. Sunderland’s Phil Bardsley has form but suffers a slight drop as fixtures toughen up. City’s Kolo Toure is now the only secure option within a strong City defence in the FPL and will remain so while Mancini continues to tinker with his full-backs.

Fulham’s Brede Hangeland and the emerging potential of Arsenal’s Johan Djourou are our highest new entries and offer value further down our rankings. There’s every indication that the Swiss defender is holding the centre-back spot in Arsene Wenger’s back four – if that continues at West Ham, expect a climb into our top five in preparation for Arsenal’s continued kind run.

The midfield rankings continue to be fairly settled. The big movement sees Charlie Adam climb into our top five, with Gareth Bale dropping to sixth. We’ve gone for both Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas for Arsenal’s spell which surely promises plenty of goals and assists for the pairing.

Below the big five you can find value in the mid-price with Kevin Nolan and Chris Brunt continuing to offer a degree of consistency. Brunt will enjoy a further climb if he can rediscover form to coincide with the Baggies attractive double home fixtures in Gameweek 27.

Controversially perhaps, Dimitar Berbatov holds on to the top ranking amongst the forwards, despite a recent decline. Wayne Rooney’s fitness is a big factor to the Bulgarian’s form and with him set to return to action this weekend, we would expect Berbatov to start firing again, just in time for United’s double Gameweeks.

Carlos Tevez doesn’t benefit from extra fixtures and subsequently drops to third with Fernando Torres perhaps needing a goal at Blackpool ahead of his three Anfield games in four. Robin Van Persie is the big climber – he presents the alternative for those looking to harness Arsenal’s potential. Although yet to blink on the radar, Van Persie has shown glimpses and has been influential since his return.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Here's some useless information for all of you. Arsenal have 8 wins and 1 draw in the 9 games Djourou has played in. 4 wins, 3 draws and 5 losses in 12 games where Djourou hasn't played. Interesting! or not.

Just a thought about Didier Drogba: I know all us football enthusiasts are like ostriches, head in sand - but would you be able to focus if all your nearest and dearest were in imminent danger of being murdered/raped/beaten up? There is probably going to be Civil War in Cote d'Ivoire any minute now ...

Chiek Tiote and Yaya Toure seem to be coping.

Personally, I reckon malaria has done for our Didier. I remember how good Kolo Toure used to be, then got got malaria and went downhill rapidly. No player, especially not a centre back, starts to decline at 26 without there being something up.

Yes - but Drogba had that shooting incident just before the World Cup, and I reckon he's actually quite a sensitive sort ... The malaria really should have run its course by the end of November, and although there will be intermittent bouts, should not affect him too much.

They're two questions, and they don't contradict at all.

But let me elaborate anyway. The whole of the Chelsea team has been playing badly lately, whether this is down to wilkins or just a confidence issue or whatever, the whole team is playing badly.

Drogba is a part of that team and so him playing badly is most likely because of the saem reason as everyone else - but you've come out and said malaria has done his career in - what are you basing it on that it is the malaria and not jsut the same thing as everyone else in the Chelsea team!?

Sum of things. Ballack and Carvalho leaving, Drogbas sickness and Wilkins getting the boot. Chelsea's earlier form was skewed due to their easy fixtures, we don't really know if this is actually that big of a dip in their form. Ramires is getting bullied in the midfield, Lampard is getting old, Kalou is useless... I could go on and on.

I'm sorry but if you watched Chelsea at the start of the season and in the last few weeks there would be no doubt that this is a MASSIVE dip in form.

You missed the point anyway, which was that in a team of players playing badly you can't just single out a Drogba and say that he is playing badly BECAUSE of his malaria, whether it is a factor or not remains to be seen. It's when the team is back to their best we'll see if there is something up with Drogba that is not up with the others i.e. malaria.

Im in the same situation. Think about it this way, If you play the wildcard in GW 26, It should benefit u until about GW31! The season is over in gameweek 38!!

In short, I think using the wildcard now will benefit me for the next 4-6 gameweeks, and then I've another one to use around GW30 for the run in!..

Brown is a right back / centre back (has played RB much more often than CB in the last 5 years). O'Shea can play pretty much anywhere at the back or midfield (not very well, but he can play there). Rafael is no 1 pick now, but rotation could come into it, especially with CL coming up.

Also, if Utd win the league with a few games to spare, all bets are off 😉

Yeah but Fergie has now realised he isn't a right back, cos he's rubbish there. O'Shea is a risk I suppose, but he's rubbish at right back also.

Dont you talk about Handsome Gar like that , your obviously still bitter about that pen decision!,why dont you take yourself off to the plastic surgeons and get that pimple taken off your shoulders!!
Wes Brown is a quality right back when he's had a few runs, fabio is young and will improve defensively, and O'shea is a great utility player. The 3 of them will get runs so i think tekkers riqulrmers has a great point about Evra, ill probably get evra too when im 'wc'ing, banker starter for all the dgw, defo moreso than fabio.

Ok, when he played a full season there about 3 years ago he was fantastic, injuries have ruined that guys career along with not being able to cement a 1st team place down,do you honestly think you know more than the most decorated man in english football,
              Fail attack for you clownface
And negative on the glory supporter my friend,i was in old trafford cheering them on in 85 when Terry Gibson was missing open goals, alongside Mike Duxbury and Remi Moses,so shut your shite and hurry up on down to the championship now ya'hear!

3 years ago?! Ronaldinho was the best in the world 3 years ago, so he is still? Your obviously not going to say anything bad about him cos he's been a loyal servant to Utd and your obviously biast towards your own team but ask anyone, Wes Brown is not a good right back!

my point is that, that was when he had a good run in the team, players need gametime, his career has now become one of a back up player, but when he did get that consistent run he was excellent ALL SEASON. Obviously his pace is now going as he's what 31 im guessing so centre half is now where he does his best stuff, but he is/was a good player, its a shame he had the injuries he had. Comparing anyone to party boy Ronaldinho is a bit of a non event for a multitude of reasons so no point going there.Would you take him (brown) on loan for the rest of the season, methinks yes

    Hart (stockdale)
    Rafael/hangeland/Coleman (elmohamandy) (alcaraz)
    Nasri/Adam/Nani/vdv (etherington)
    Tevez/Torres/welbeck.

I heard that welbeck is out for a month so I am thinking to bring in maybe dj cambell. Any suggestions?

Due to the excessive dog dirt I have accumulated in recent weeks I'm going to play my wild card. How does the following look?

    Foster/Stockdale
    Evatt/Coleman/Hughes/Bardsley/Rafael
    Adam/Fabregas/N'Zogbia/Nani/VDV
    Tevez/Berbatov/Torres

I'm looking to change Torres to RVP after the double gameweek.

I think we'll go 4-4-2 myself - Utd have an incredible record v Spurs (more prem points won from Spurs than any other team), we played 4-4-2 against them at home, and Spurs aren't that good, really.

On the last 6 occasions United and Liverpool have met in the FA Cup, the victors have gone on to win the trophy 5 times (MUFC 77, 85, 96, 99, LFC 06). Only in 1979 was this not the case, United losing to Arsenal 3-2 at Wembley in the final.

I think you need at least one striker that you know will play week in week out and will play a part in goals if they're scored.

Alot of people don't seem to agree but i think RVP will be saved for the bigger games and rotated with Chamakh quite a bit.

Not doubt RVP is a better player but they're both good and Wenger won't want RVP gettign injrued again
