Liverpool football club confirmed the inevitable this morning with the announcement that Roy Hodgson has left the club “by mutual consent” (why can’t we just say sacked?). The official word from Liverpool’s new owner John Henry is as follows…

“We are grateful for Roy’s efforts over the past six months, but both parties thought it in the best interests of the club that he stand down from his position as team manager. We wish him all the best for the future.”

The departure of Hodgson was becoming more a case of when and not if over recent weeks and months, the home loss to Wolves was seen as the final straw by many but the late home win against Bolton seemed to offer Hogdson another late reprieve. Days later Blackburn so resolutely trumped Liverpool on Wednesday by three goals to one that the writing was quite literally on the wall…

What this now means is that [many of] the Liverpool fans now get what they wanted back in the summer with the added announcement that Kenny Dalglish has been granted temporary charge of team affairs. Dalglish starts with the FA Cup trip to Old Trafford and will stay in charge through to the end of the season. Club chairman Tom Werner said…

“No one who cares for this great club has been happy with the way this season has unfolded and we have examined options and considered at length what is best for us going forward. Kenny will bring considerable experience to the position and provide management and leadership for the rest of the season.”

Fans and Fantasy Managers alike were getting frustrated with the tactics employed by the now incumbent manager so it will be interesting to track exactly how the Merseyside legend attempts to bring his club back from the brink, having not managed for the past decade the size of task on his hands must not be under-estimated.

In Fantasy Football terms, Liverpool have a decent run of games (EVE, wlv/FUL, STK, che, WIG) having been Frisked just days ago which, in combination with the impetus often following a new managerial appointment, may provide renewed vigour when it comes to investing in a Liverpool side that has disappointed more often than not to date. With the club in the midst of their own double-gameweek, and with an FA Cup tie to play tomorrow, managers will have time to assess how and if anything has clearly changed over these two games before we enter our next gameweek.

The picture of Liverpool’s defence will have many questions that need answering as the likes of Konchesky and Aurelio will be vying for their new managers favour and Daniel Agger hoping to get a smoother ride than he seemingly faced under Hodgson. The 12% of Fernando Torres owners and 10% of Steven Gerrard proprietors will be hoping King Kenny also adopts a more attacking formation last seen in the Benitez era which will be built around Liverpool’s two star players as opposed to the rugged 4-4-2 we have been seeing somewhat stifle them this season.

Those already on the Liverpool bandwagon hope the club will bring a spark with them to Blackpool on Wednesday to boost their first double-gameweek of the season; but for now, we wait, and watch.

Won't be 2 up top as such. Nicky B will play wide on the right I'd imagine with Rosicky through the middle and Shava on the right. Song and Denilson in behind.

I was one off! My predicted team had Kosy ahead of Squil.

He was a good player in La liga and for Argentina, I have no idea why he has deteriorated so much. Maybe it's the manager or maybe it's his position or maybe he just can't hack the pace of the premier league.

    Hi everyone,
I am thinking of playing my wild card this week and these are my thoughts for the 'perfect' taking into consideration the upcoming gameweeks...your thoughts would be appreciated.

    Kingson Gordon
Evra Sagna Cole A Coleman Skrtel
    VDV Nani Brunt Nasri Adam
    Tevez Drogba/Van Persie Varney

    and for following gameweek (G24)
    Drogba/Van Persie out for Torres
    Tevez out for Rooney/Berbatov

Drogba may do well vs Blackburn, but rvp is a very good pick especially as it looks like it will save you a hit and you get cash back.

Good shout. Alternatively if you stuck with berbs and could get fabs in the mid (poss another cheapy def?) then even better. Just beware fantasy fabs basically.

Also beware Gordons fixtures. He may not continue to score as he has done in recent weeks. Fabianski is a good alternative or Begovic.

agreed I just think Daglish is taking advantage of the fans anger and people forgot his record

He was managing liverpool when they had the best team around and got it cos he was a club legend then jumped ship as it turned sour for " a long break"

Then 8 months later turned up at the money BB to buy the title.

He was then appointed to 2 proper management jobs where he didnt have money or the best squad and therefore actually had to coach - and both were a disaster.

I think Liverpool fans know that, they just want someone in place who they know will be backed by the owners in the transfer market.

I still think this is very temporary and designed to appease the fans, get them behind the team and bums on seat.

              Hopefully Deschamps in the summer.

No doubt we need a major overhaul if we are to get back into champions league, but the fact is woy's tactics were ridiculous. All Kenny has to do to improve the lads is play them in positions that suit and give them some motivation/ass kicking where needed.

Not playing gerrard in his best position

          Playing Konchesky at all

so Dalglish wont do any of these then?

Liverpool fans would have moaned if Carra was dropped ( he should have been about 3 years ago)

Gerrards best position (by stats) is Right Midfield but he is too egotistical/selfish/unprofessional to play there

Konchesky was a bad buy but no where near as bad buy as most of Benitez

Where is Coles best position? I have wathced him on TV/Live many times and I cant tell you - sub maybe?

U might be right about Carra, buts it's CB or not at all.

Gerrards best position is behind Torres our most recent succes has been him playing their, what are these stats?

              I never said Rafa didn't buy sh*t

Coles best position probably is the bench

I would personally play 4-2-3-1 we have in the past, we will see what Kenny does.

re: Gerrard RB - I believe he played over half a season there under benitez, i also think this was the season that he had his most productive stats at end of season.

His 2nd best position is CB, he is not a 2nd forward imo.

This is perhaps slightly unfair, because Tevez, like Gareth Barry, is a good player. He isn’t worth anything close to what Kia Joorabchian is asking for him, though; that pricetag is around £30 million, which is probably £10-12 million too much. Manchester United appear to agree with me on this point, which is why – even with Ronaldo leaving – they haven’t spent part of their £80 million windfall on the Argentinian striker.

Tevez is overrated because he’s essentially a one-trick pony. On his best day, he can run forever, work hard, get the ball, run down the opposition, and take shots. On his worst day, he can run forever with no real end result to speak of and, ultimately, no real advantage for his team. He’s not a particularly smart player, he’s just a hard worker.

He’s very good in the role he plays. Going back to gridiron football, I think of Tevez in the same way I think of a workhorse running back or a journeyman quarterback: he’s valuable to the team, but he’s not someone you’re ever going to pay top dollar for. He’s simply not that kind of guy; if you’ve seen one Tevez performance you’ve really seen them all.

From Manchester United’s perspective, they’ve already got guys like Tevez on the team. Wayne Rooney’s does pretty much everything Tevez does, just a little bit better. Park Ji-Sung does everything he does a little slower. Cristiano Ronaldo’s flair tended to mask the fact that United is a team of hard working players; Sir Alex Ferguson already has players lined up to take Tevez’s spot for far cheaper once he leaves.

The other thing worth mentioning with Tevez: his strike rate. In his two years at Manchester United, Tevez has scored 19 goals in 63 appearances; to put things in perspective, Roque Santa Cruz scored 19 goals in 37 games in the same debut season. Tevez’s international strike rate for Argentina is even worse: in his fifty appearances, he’s only scored eight times.

In the recent comments section I read that as, 'even by Jara's standards.

And I got all excited. I need to get a grip.

For that price he is straight in the team. He will surely take some points of Tevez, maybe making him play deeper?? Balotellis days are numbered imo, he will never be happy imo.
