Liverpool football club confirmed the inevitable this morning with the announcement that Roy Hodgson has left the club “by mutual consent” (why can’t we just say sacked?). The official word from Liverpool’s new owner John Henry is as follows…

“We are grateful for Roy’s efforts over the past six months, but both parties thought it in the best interests of the club that he stand down from his position as team manager. We wish him all the best for the future.”

The departure of Hodgson was becoming more a case of when and not if over recent weeks and months, the home loss to Wolves was seen as the final straw by many but the late home win against Bolton seemed to offer Hogdson another late reprieve. Days later Blackburn so resolutely trumped Liverpool on Wednesday by three goals to one that the writing was quite literally on the wall…

What this now means is that [many of] the Liverpool fans now get what they wanted back in the summer with the added announcement that Kenny Dalglish has been granted temporary charge of team affairs. Dalglish starts with the FA Cup trip to Old Trafford and will stay in charge through to the end of the season. Club chairman Tom Werner said…

“No one who cares for this great club has been happy with the way this season has unfolded and we have examined options and considered at length what is best for us going forward. Kenny will bring considerable experience to the position and provide management and leadership for the rest of the season.”

Fans and Fantasy Managers alike were getting frustrated with the tactics employed by the now incumbent manager so it will be interesting to track exactly how the Merseyside legend attempts to bring his club back from the brink, having not managed for the past decade the size of task on his hands must not be under-estimated.

In Fantasy Football terms, Liverpool have a decent run of games (EVE, wlv/FUL, STK, che, WIG) having been Frisked just days ago which, in combination with the impetus often following a new managerial appointment, may provide renewed vigour when it comes to investing in a Liverpool side that has disappointed more often than not to date. With the club in the midst of their own double-gameweek, and with an FA Cup tie to play tomorrow, managers will have time to assess how and if anything has clearly changed over these two games before we enter our next gameweek.

The picture of Liverpool’s defence will have many questions that need answering as the likes of Konchesky and Aurelio will be vying for their new managers favour and Daniel Agger hoping to get a smoother ride than he seemingly faced under Hodgson. The 12% of Fernando Torres owners and 10% of Steven Gerrard proprietors will be hoping King Kenny also adopts a more attacking formation last seen in the Benitez era which will be built around Liverpool’s two star players as opposed to the rugged 4-4-2 we have been seeing somewhat stifle them this season.

Those already on the Liverpool bandwagon hope the club will bring a spark with them to Blackpool on Wednesday to boost their first double-gameweek of the season; but for now, we wait, and watch.

Djourou really does look like business to me, a lot of Arsenal fans prefer him to all their defenders apart from Vermaelen also so think I'm going to get him in.

Oh and Arshavin will never come in my team ever again, he is so bad it's crazy. My team has been in freefall ever since I picked him over Nasri against Fulham.

The 2nd point while over the top has merit.

I would never pick Arshavin as he is too likely to go a run of games without doing anything. I would argue he is not first choice right now too as Wenger likes his fwds to be lacking more in the shooting/crossing/passing depts (see Walcott).

Good player (when he wants to be) but not an FPL player for me.

Its the football part that is ludicrous.

Its fine not rating him in fpl now as he has lost his place but he has done a fair bit in his career.

To be honest, before Euro 2008 I'd never heard of him. He had a good tournament and then joined Arsenal, did well from January to the end of the season and hasn't really done anything since. I feel he lacks the end product and is so easily to mark out the game in this country.

Not to get into this but "hasnt done anything this season"

Thats why you bought him? or was it the goals and assists consistency he had until December.

I don't exactly want Wolves to do well but if they have good fixtures and are on form, you'd be silly not to get any players from you, it's only a game after all. So why do you have Ferguson anyway? Surely you don't want Blues to do well.

In the 'easy' home fixtures this season, Ferguson averages about 4 points...

That actually isn't terrible for 4.1. I usually mock people for having him, but he really isn't the worst of options. I'd happily take 4/5 points from occasionally especially if it allows me to get Fabregas and co.

exactly, meireles and lucas are building a strong partnership and gerrard playing off torres was and can still be one of the best forward pairings in europe. We need a big overhaul to get back to chamions league but atm the team practically picks itself (and it certainly doesn't involve n'gog starting or meireles on the wing)

Oh and Meireles never played on the wing, in the wolves game he started as the furthest right sided player but it was right wing, he was basically tucking in and allowing Johnson to bomb on.

And in the wolves game he and gerrard swapped over after about 20min.

So no he didnt play on the wing.

Talking about Vermaelen. He scored quite a few goals when he first joined and since has been made out to be some brilliant defender.

right ok - yeah i agree with this post.

Lescott in particular is a terrible defender who was made to look playing left back (less defensive responsibilities) and goals from corners.

Would someone be so kind to help me sort out the defence of my WC team:

    Fabianski, Al-Habsi
    Vidic, Hangeland, Evatt, Crainey, Djourou
    Nani, Nasri, VdV, Nolan, Davies
    Berbatov, Carroll, Tevez

    4.1 in the bank

THe idea is to hold on to the Blackpool Players till GW 28 and then ditch&switch them for someone in form.

THe other issue I am facin is having 3 Arsenakl Players with Fabianski, Jourjou and Nasri which effectively keeps me from getting van Persie once he finds the back of the net again 🙁

Because this season I have absolutely on clue how to build a decent defence.

You are right though adam for Nolan is probably wiser. Still looking at next encounters whom shall i task with my defence?

Tempting idea, however I prefer to get any Liverpool player after the Merseyside derby. I'd like to see first whtat King Kenny will do to the team. Maybe Johnson will be an option at that time?

Nope - my previous theam was well beyond good and evil with Chakmah, Kyrgiakos and Malouda.

THe other idea is to get temporarly two Sunderland defendcers in. And then build up two free transfers in the next weeks, so I can go Tevez>RvP and Djourou>Skrtl/Johnson

Indeed. You'd always rather thump the other teams, play consistently well but at the moment no-one is really playing much better than another team. I mean teams like Blackpool and Sunderland are having pretty good seasons, but as far as the top teams no-one has really been THAT consistent at winning at least.

You'd take a scrappy 2-1 any day of the week if it meant 3 points. That's why I don't buy into this Arsenal crap about them playing nice football. Sure that's good, if you're winning.
