Liverpool football club confirmed the inevitable this morning with the announcement that Roy Hodgson has left the club “by mutual consent” (why can’t we just say sacked?). The official word from Liverpool’s new owner John Henry is as follows…

“We are grateful for Roy’s efforts over the past six months, but both parties thought it in the best interests of the club that he stand down from his position as team manager. We wish him all the best for the future.”

The departure of Hodgson was becoming more a case of when and not if over recent weeks and months, the home loss to Wolves was seen as the final straw by many but the late home win against Bolton seemed to offer Hogdson another late reprieve. Days later Blackburn so resolutely trumped Liverpool on Wednesday by three goals to one that the writing was quite literally on the wall…

What this now means is that [many of] the Liverpool fans now get what they wanted back in the summer with the added announcement that Kenny Dalglish has been granted temporary charge of team affairs. Dalglish starts with the FA Cup trip to Old Trafford and will stay in charge through to the end of the season. Club chairman Tom Werner said…

“No one who cares for this great club has been happy with the way this season has unfolded and we have examined options and considered at length what is best for us going forward. Kenny will bring considerable experience to the position and provide management and leadership for the rest of the season.”

Fans and Fantasy Managers alike were getting frustrated with the tactics employed by the now incumbent manager so it will be interesting to track exactly how the Merseyside legend attempts to bring his club back from the brink, having not managed for the past decade the size of task on his hands must not be under-estimated.

In Fantasy Football terms, Liverpool have a decent run of games (EVE, wlv/FUL, STK, che, WIG) having been Frisked just days ago which, in combination with the impetus often following a new managerial appointment, may provide renewed vigour when it comes to investing in a Liverpool side that has disappointed more often than not to date. With the club in the midst of their own double-gameweek, and with an FA Cup tie to play tomorrow, managers will have time to assess how and if anything has clearly changed over these two games before we enter our next gameweek.

The picture of Liverpool’s defence will have many questions that need answering as the likes of Konchesky and Aurelio will be vying for their new managers favour and Daniel Agger hoping to get a smoother ride than he seemingly faced under Hodgson. The 12% of Fernando Torres owners and 10% of Steven Gerrard proprietors will be hoping King Kenny also adopts a more attacking formation last seen in the Benitez era which will be built around Liverpool’s two star players as opposed to the rugged 4-4-2 we have been seeing somewhat stifle them this season.

Those already on the Liverpool bandwagon hope the club will bring a spark with them to Blackpool on Wednesday to boost their first double-gameweek of the season; but for now, we wait, and watch.

    From this:

    Foster/robbo
    Cole Enrique kalarov evatt  skrtel
    Vdv Nasri Etherington Adam Nani
    Elmander Drogba carroll

    To this:

    Hart/Stockdale
    Bardsley  Huth  Rafael  Coleman  Djourou
    Adam   Nani  VDV  Fabregas  Dorrans
    RVP Berbatov  Carroll

Worth it? Bit of a ‘tescos value’ team tbh as money is tight!

well you have 3 rotation risks in Coleman, Djourou and Rafael.

I wouldn't say the defence is better. Midfield and Upfront is an improvement though.

well come to think of it, rafael is still a pretty safe bet. I'd trade coleman out for a birmingham defender, dann or johnson, and stockdale for fabianski and then Djourou for either hughes onr hangeland depending on your budget ?

              Hope this helped

Wow, didn't realise that Djourou is the new Baresi Carvalho....

What we have here is a classic case of believing what you want to believe, so it suits your fantasy team. Other classic cases included non-Bale owners claiming at the beginning of the season that BAE is absolutely dreadful, and so Bale will have to play LB.

Djourou has been at Arsenal since 2004 and not broken into the team, so cant see how 3 starts in a row constitute him being first choice. Good short term option while Vermaelen is out though

What does constitute him being first choice is him performing better than any other Arsenal central defender this season.

He's always been riddled with injuries, and is still only 23. The fact that Wenger's kept him so long suggests he sees considerable potential there.

My point being that people have seen that Djourou may be a great bargain at 4.2, and so all over a sudden we have hundreds of people claiming how brilliant he is every game.

Chelsea's attacking three were a joke against Arsenal, and I barely noticed Djourou in the City game, mainly because City only made it out of their half twice.

I'm not saying he's a bad player, or not a good player for that matter, I just find the way that people overhype players that they want/have in their team is quite amusing.

I'm just as bad as anyone. Just ask my brother.. I love nothing more than bigging up the players in my side.

Walker's good, until he kicks down Hleb in the box. Unfortunately I think Birm. may have found a bit of a goal scoring touch. Never know, I see a few home teams this week getting cleansheeted: Wigan Athletic, West Ham., Stoke, Sunderland, and maybe even Liverpool, if the teams with pace keep the gas on until teams subit and pull a Mancini.

Can't really argue with either pen in the Leeds match. Wish Parker hadn't bothered tugging Walcott he probably would've missed it anyways.

    Hi guys,

Can you give my wild card team a quick look. Im in two minds whether to play it but i was just playing about and i can do this with no money spare. Compared with what i've got now do you think its worth playing?

    Hart - Stockdale
    Rafael - Kolarov - Coleman - Djourou - Alcaraz
Adam - Fabregas - Van der Vaart - Nani - Brunt
Van Persie - Carroll - Tevez

          Hart-Carson
          Rafael-Coleman-Bardsley-Djourou-Evatt
          Fabregas-Nani-VDV-Adam-Brunt

It was him or berbatov and I'd have the same problem with him....There arent that many options in that bracket i'd want longish term and it seems silly to put someone in i dont really fancy just to want to take them out already.

Im not sold on keeping kolarov but im hoping he'll keep his place.

Fair enough regarding RVP, he's a cracking FPL player when fit and I'm considering him myself - just worried about all the games piling up.

Its finding money for another good scoring long term defender i find the challenge. Have we had news on Zabaleta's red card appeal? The ban isnt showing on FPL.

If he proves to not be a regular i'll just downgrade him to a cheap option with good fixtures. I suppose Baird isnt a bad option.

Nope, 3rd round replays ALWAYS take place midweek 10 / 11 days after the initial match so Arsenal will be on the 18th or 19th. Therefore obviously no league matches are scheduled for this slot.

Who knows? He's supposed to be a target man so depends how he affects the formation - my point is he could mean that Tevez alters his role and thus is less of a FPL beast.

Hernandez has almost 1 goal in 2 games for Utd in his debut season in english football, where in a lot of games he was coming on as sub. His link up play is excellent and he's starting to get the BP judges attention.

Bendtner has been a donkey for 4 seasons, barring a purple patch at the end of last year.

Hernandez is basically the new Rooney.. He's only scored against Wigan, West Brom and Choke City.

Nor do Chelsea in the Charity Shield. 😳 😳

Bendtner is still better though. 😉

I actually think the best time to play the wildcard is just after GW25.
My logic being... You can load up on Spurs/Arsenal and Brum players all who have favourable fixtures prior to the double GW. You then don't have to use a transfer before GW27.. carry over a free transfer and have 2 prior to Chlesea & United double gw.
Should pay off provided i dont pick up injuries after Gw26.

I thought the same but It looks like best time is now. I can add those players with single transfers. Tot I have VDV, for Bale no spot in the midfield area so I suppose is Dawson but I don't like TOT fixtures from defensive point of view. Arsenal players I want them now, against W HAm and Wigan. For the double I could only add RVP if I am inspired, thats why I am not signing Gjorou I need another space for my attacking Ars players. Bir..??? Only defense, plus Foster Dann or Ridgwell are players taht could be added so it seems that is not worth to wait that long for the WC.

Still haven't press the WC button but its very tempting!!!

      Have u changed your mind?

Nah i think with 3 weeks of the transfer window left it's far too early to play it. Players could lose their places, you could miss out on bargains etc. Better to play it late and have a team set up that'll carry to at least the end of February.

This is my third year I don't remember players that has contributed in fantasy terms in the Jan transfer deadline. Only exception is Arshavin in tree years. Nothing else. WHo u think is gonna be bargain, Bentley??? Come on....

            1. Last season there was Wilshere.
            2. You'd expect a couple of City players to go out on loan.
            3. Samba will likely have a new club this time next month.
            4. The impact of Dzeko's transfer remains to be seen.
            5. Vela will be going out on loan.. could be a bargain if he goes to the right club

That's all i can think of off the top of my head.

    Team for GW23

    Foster
    Coleman Kolarov Vidic Konchesky
    Adam Bale Nani Brunt
    Torres Tevez(C)

    Begovic Evatt Carroll N'Zogbia

I have 1 free transfer available, should I be looking to get rid anywhere quickly or save my transfer?

Main player concerns over: Konchesky, Evatt and Kolarov

i'd be concerned about konchesky. I don't think Kenny Dalglish would be as stupid to play him regularly, Hodgson's probably the only manager who would do so. Perhaps a change there?

i mean i dont think konchesky will get as much playing time now that they have a manager who understands football 🙂
