Charlie Adam is at the centre of today’s transfer speculation circus with Ian Holloway confirming that Blackpool have turned down bids for their skipper. The offers from Birmingham and Aston Villa and are thought to be in the region of £2.5 million; Sunderland are also thought to be an interested party.

Holloway reacted to the bids by confirming that Blackpool were under no pressure to sell their star asset…

“We’re a well-run club, we’ve got no reason to sell anyone, in fact we want to add in this window, not lose anyone.”

He did however also confirm that he has had talks with Adam only this morning and indicated that the player could move on if the money was right…

“It’s important to keep working with him [Adam] to achieve one of his ultimate goals, which is to play for one of the top four or five, or even six, clubs. We have got him for 18 months on his contract and if one of those top clubs I told him this morning come in then I might have to consider it, but they would have to offer the right amount of money for this club to move forward.”

Fantasy Managers will need to monitor the situation closely. There’s no doubt that Adam has adapted brilliantly the Premier League stage and, while his goal and assist returns have remained moderate (3 goals, 4 assists), Adam has stood out in Holloway’s side and dominated their Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Bonus Point returns as a result. The heartbeat of the team, Adam tops of the FPL Bonus rankings with a hugely impressive haul of 27. Whilst he remains at Bloomfield Road that total would seem likely to keep ticking away – a move in the January transfer window would likely disrupt that. Certainly if either Villa or Birmingham are successful with follow-up bids, you would expect Adam’s returns in terms of Bonus to take a dent, while his influence at set-plays could also diminish.

In the short-term, his Fantasy owners will be hoping that this latest speculation will not get in the way of Adam taking to the field for Blackpool’s second fixture of the Gameweek on Wednesday. The Scot will wear the Gameweek 22 armband for many Fantasy Managers when Blackpool take on Liverpool and, having returned another couple of Bonus in the defeat to Birmingham last week, hopes will be high for further profit. Adam was rested for Blackpool’s 2-0 FA Cup defeat to Southampton at the weekend.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Merson was ten times the player GJ is (and in all likelihood ever will be). Merson questioned whether GJ had justified his £18m price tag... don't think GJ has done enough to justify £1.8m so he should keep his mouth shut and do his talking on the pitch.

Reckon Merson would be worth at least £20m by today's standard and he played half-cut.

loved merson, a brilliant natural footballer. he's right to question johnson although to be fair the price tag is nothing to do with johnson and it's a little harsh he had an 18mil price tag to live up to. footballers are just very touchy i guess as they've grown up being told how wonderful they are all their lives

Anyone else interested to see where Robbie Keane ends up? 4.8 for a proven striker on penalty duties (probable) seems a bargain, it would free up funds for the likes of Fabs/Lamps. Also if he was to head to Brum there would be the DGW to consider.

i dont think its worth the risk, he might well take time to adapt. also, tevez is proven consistent and takes pens and free kicks, and bonus points seem to follow him.

I'd atleast give it a little while. If Tevez were to drop back a little bit for Dzeko as Rooney has done for Berba in all the games those two have played it would make Dzeko a bargain, especially if he was 9.5 or something!

Or Dzeko could be completely terribly as part of the City line up which has already managed to turn Milner into a fairly terrible FPL prospect after his amazing time at Villa.

Is Fabregas really, REALLY worth the upgrade from Nasri?

I bought Nasri at 7.4M, can sell him for 7.9M and Fabregas is about to go up to 11.9M...

there is when you get to gw 28, and you could have fabs nasri and vdv potentially missing out on a game due to the carling cup final.

Also we've seen how wenger has plenty of options in Nasri's position, walcott, arshavin, rosicky, and he isn't exactly scared to rotate him.

With that midfield though you just cannot get Drogba + Tevez/Dzeko in to your front line, unless you RUIN your defence, either option would surely bite in the long run...

I'd rather have no Drogba and Fabregas and instead have Malouda in Midfield with a bit more freedom upfront.

Looking for some feedback. Here's my current team:

    Hart/Carson
    Bardsley/Elmohamady/Vidic/Baines/Terry
    Bale/Etherington/Adam/Nasri/VDV
    Berbatov/Elmander/Piquionne

Definitely some weak links in there, but only 0.5 in the bank. Would love to pick up Nani for the DGW that is coming up, but don't see how. Also thinking maybe dropping Terry, picking up a cheaper defender so I can switch Bale or Etherington for Nani. What do you think?

    Thanks!

Nice to see something a bit different. I'm feeling really unhappy with Elmander and Torres up front for me. No confidence in them any more.

I think Terry or Vidic should go for Rafael or Djourou. That should let you get Nani.

When are you playing the January wildcard? Terry and Vidic downgraded to Djourou and Rafael will allow you to beef up your front-line with Tevez, Torres, Drogba whatever...Hart could also be downgraded to free up a bit of cash.

Great ideas - thanks. I'll keep them in mind. Think I'll stay clear of Torres right now, at least until Dalglish shows he can get more out of him. Same with Drogba and the underperforming Chelsea.... Tevez, perhaps, though.

I think I'll save the January wildcard until GW 25/26 or so, unless there's a drastic need to change.

a couple of things i'm doing with my wildcard:
    1) bringing in birmingham's sub keepr to go with foster. i've realised all this season that for every time i've got my keeper choice right there's been at least once when i've got it wrong. in 08/09 i had schwarzer and zuberbuhler for the season and it was nice to not ever have a choice and in doing so know every time fulham (brum in this case) kept/keep a clean sheet you will get it.
    2) like with the keepers bring in marlon harewood. having a squad of players who are all starters and i'd be happy to play any of hasn't really worked this season. i either have 15 starters or 4 of my players are rested at once leaving me with 10 players. also this season being so unpredictable has meant benching players like brunt, carroll and adam in tough away games has often resulted in good points on the bench. having harewood means you can play 3-5-2 every week and never miss out on an adam/brunt haul.
the guys at the top of my mini league basically play the same 11 every week, leaving the likes of muyokolo and alan smith!!! on their bench every week and it's worked well basically just having an 11 then transferring in for an injury, not just benching the injured player.
long post but yeah am going cheap and saving myself the weekly decisions which i'm getting wrong too often.

agreed, its possible to have more than 2 or 3 players miss a game week through injuries or rotation so would always want a player to come in.

I'm with you. It seems crazy when people have a super-strong front 8 and you see them having to bench people like VDV and Nasri each week.... The flip side though is the random weeks when you're a few players down and all of a sudden your poor bench really hurts.. My solution is cheap but good value players like Barton who you can live with benching most of the time, but you don't mind coming off for the odd run around.

fair point, but even players like barton will get the odd 10 pointer which would annoy me sitting on my bench. but yeah i suppose for every 10 pointer you lose you'll play him 1 week and he'll get you a 10 pointer which a harewood wouldn't if you were forced to play him in an emergency

Wait for Foster to get injured in the first half, subbed at half time and Brum still keep the clean sheet! I know what you mean though... benched Hart a few times as I thought he couldn't possibly keep a cleanie but on the flip side if I had to gamble on him keeping one against Leicester City I'd have definitely started him...

Interesting thoughts but doesn't it make the whole thing rather boring, all you really do is pick one of 7 people to be captain and unless there are injuries / severe changes in form you'd just be using your transfer to swap defenders?

50-50. if liverpool lose or don't score against blackpool i'd play elmo, hangeland and coleman (coleman more lielly to score than baines). if aurelio plays against blackpool (i seriously doubt it personally) he will struggle to play against everton as it would be 3 games in 7 days

Nice team, but who are you going to bench each week? Sometimes having 11 mega stars in FPL terms is a hindrance more than a benefit, potential for members of your bench to outscore others in your first team. Might be better to bring in a real bargain price player like Campbell or Barton. Means if a first teamer didn't feature you've got someon who will always play for their team as a sub, but you're not as bothered having them on your bench

      Just a thought...

Hi guys. I am doing Gerrard to Fabs and I need to free some cash to do it.

I will have to downgrade: Vidic, Kolarov or Brunt.

    A. Vidic to Rafael. (Vida is a sure starter but is Rafael? Difficult to say.)
    B. Kolarov to Baird or Hughes (F'ham have good fixtures including dgw...but how typical would it be if Kolarov would start doing something)
    C. Brunt to Barton (WBA have good fixtures coming up so I do not fancy that one very much)

    What would yo choose?

I noticed some comments earlier about Dzeko's opening price....

If he comes in at 9.0 (or no higher than 9.1)...folks could swap their Tevez/Berba into Dzeko/Rooney at no cost (assuming 2 free transfers, etc..). The worry that Tevez becomes more of a provider role I think are maybe a bit inflated but i think it could be an interesting switch.

Yeah, me either. Dont have to change anything with Tevez. So how does Dzeko fit into formation. We know he loathes tracking back and while Tevez has a terrific work rate he's not goin got drop that deep. I think we could see someone like Silva become a dead cert starter. Van der Vaart – Fabregas – N’Zogbia – Nani – Lampard

is it worth waiting to see who plays for lfc and then switch them? or go for one of the 3 suggested?
