We’re still waiting for the “Dalglish factor” to kick-in as Kenny fails to inspire a recovery in Liverpool’s fortunes; the Reds the latest to suffer defeat at the hands of Ian Holloway’s Blackpool in last night’s Bloomfield Road encounter. In the Carling Cup meanwhile, Wenger shuffles his pack and watches on while Ipswich expose defensive flaws to take a 1-0 lead into the Emirates second-leg…

Dalglish sprung a few surprises with his lineup. In the absence of suspended skipper Steven Gerrard, the Liverpool boss brought in Christian Poulsen and Milan Jovanovic to the midfield, while Glen Johnson returned after the birth of his baby boy. None of the trio made an impression and their places look far from secure ahead of the Merseyside derby with Everton at the weekend. Maxi Rodriguez and Paul Konchesky were left on the bench along with David Ngog as Dalglish again went with Fernando Torres as the lone striker.

Johnson took up an unfamiliar left—back role with Dalglish opting to keep faith in young Martin Kelly at right-back after his showing in the narrow defeat to United on Sunday. Kelly duly rewarded that decision by providing the assist for Torres’ opener within three minutes. At 4.2 in the Fantasy Premier League game, Kelly has emerged as a very decent short-term consideration. He would seem likely to hold his start for the Everton game and could cement this role for Liverpool’s run of three home matches in the next four (EVE wol FUL STK).

While Kelly has potential, Liverpool’s defensive frailty remains a big problem. Gary Taylor-Fletcher navigated past Dan Agger too easily for Blackpool’s equaliser, while Ian Evatt demonstrated Liverpool’s lack of aerial power by providing the assist for an unmarked DJ Campbell to head the second-half winner.

Torres’ early strike gave him his seventh goal of the season and just his second in nine games. Dalglish went into this game promising to get the best from the Spaniard and, with those three Anfield encounters to come, there’s every chance that we will see the Torres goal ratio improve in the coming Gameweeks. With Gerrard absence through suspension for the next two however, Torres would be a gamble given his price, even with the double fixture in Gameweek 24.

DJ Campbell’s goal was his second of the Gameweek and his seventh of the season. Campbell has now scored 5 in 5 games, providing outstanding value for his 4.6 price tag. With his place seemingly secure in Ian Holloway’s lineup, he remains a good option for Blackpool’s continued run of home matches and the two additional double fixtures to come in Gameweeks 24 and 27. The Seasiders have 5 home matches in the next 7.

Charlie Adam remains the jewel in Holloway’s crown however. Predictably, the Scot came out of this match with another maximum 3 point Bonus haul, giving him a total of 5 over the two Gameweek fixtures. Adam has now amassed a staggering 30 Bonus Points over the season – his nearest rival, Carlos Tevez, is back on 23.

Incredibly Adam has scored Bonus in 6 of his last 8 starts, totaling 17 points in that run. He has not scored a single goal and returned just 1 assist in the 8 game spell, emphasising that Adam’s influence is so strong, he doesn’t need conventional Fantasy returns to catch the eye and earn the supplementary Bonus Points. The only potential caveat to holding Adam over the next month is his future at Bloomfield Road. The Blackpool skipper continues to be linked with other clubs, with Liverpool now amongst those coveting his services.

Arsenal’s Carling Cup defeat came as a surprise, even if the weekend struggle against Championship Leeds hinted that the Gunners would face a task at Portman Road. Arsene Wenger’s side failed to raise their game and dispatch of the Tractor Boys, slipping to a 1-0 defeat that will likely force Wenger to field an even stronger starting XI for the second-leg in a fortnight.

Last night’s lineup saw the likes of Nicklas Bendtner, Andrey Arshavin, Kieran Gibbs and Theo Walcott earn starts as Wenger chose to rest Samir Nasri, Robin Van Persie, Tomas Rosicky and Gael Clichy. Cesc Fabregas and Jack Wilshere provided stability in central midfield, while Denilson came in for Alex Song in the holding role.

We can expect a full reshuffle for the weekend trip to Upton Park with Nasri, Van Persie, Clichy and Song all looking certain starters. Walcott and Arshavin’s starts look less secure and it seems likely that the two will rotate for the second half of the season, with Nasri swapping flanks accordingly. Up front the competition looks fierce, particularly if Wenger opts for a lone striker as expected. Bendtner failed to take his opportunity last night and remains below Van Persie and Marouane Chamakh in the pecking order.

Johan Djourou and Laurent Koscielny started in tandem at the back once again, with Sebastien Squillaci sidelined with a hamstring injury. That pairing look to be first choice, with Djourou providing potential with his 4.2 price tag. Wenger is in the market for a new centre-back however after Thomas Vermaelen’s recent setback in his recovery from a Achilles injury. Djourou’s potential could well be short-lived then, particularly given last night’s defensive showing.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Not sure how to go with my transfers this week?

Have 0.5 in the bank so Gerrard > Fabs seems the best option? Is doubling up on him and Nasri the best idea this week or go for N'Zog with his DGW coming up?

Also should I take a hit and bring in DJ Campbell for Welbeck depending on the situation with the Drog once we here and hopefully Carlo names his team on Fri!

    Thanks

Sunderland have one of the best defences or City. Bardsley probs best option in SUN and City is diff with rotation risk only rly Toure & Kompany nailed on to start but Kolarov may well be worth a punt as assists could start coming with a big target man in Dzeko now signed? Jus my opinion though I know others may not agree!

    Out of all these strikers.

Torres, Rooney, Berbatov, Carroll, DJ, Odem, Rodallega, Drogba and Van persie.

If a wildcard is played this week and it will be a long term wildcard, meaning these strikers will stay in your team for most of the season barring injuries.

    Which 3 would you pick?

Really struggling to pick 3 solid strikers.

Torres-In an out of form, uncreative team, expensive. However good fixtures, and DGW 24

Rooney-Expensive, unproven (this season), expensive, Berbs a cheaper, proven alternative? Good fixtures, DGW-24, 28.

Berbatov-Possible threat of rotation (how likely is this? and which games?), seems to go on quiet runs after huge bursts of scoring. Good fixtures, DGW-24, 28, cheaper, likely to score huge.

Carroll- Hard to tell if he will continue his great season form, coming back from injury, if so he looks to be a great budget option. Average run of fixtures, DGW-27, likely to give consistent points at a low price point.

DJ- Seems to have his shooting boots on, DGW-24,27. Blackpool budget striker. Will he continue to find form?

Odem- Cheap Striker which found rich form early on in the season, but since injury and WBA poor form, he has struggled to do anything. With rich fixtures, do you think he has enough class to up WBA form and take advantage of potentially nice fixtures. DGW-27

Rodallega- No real form, performed well in recent match, picking up bonus points. Seems to be the main spearhead for Wigans attack. Cheap, nice fixtures, DGW- 24

Drogba- Still imo a class striker. May be dropped? After Blackburn, fixtures stiffen. Still recovering his form since the malaria. Expensive, but will nearly always be involved in any form of Chelsea attack. Hasn't received bonus lately due to poor performances, but have managed to still rake in some points. DGW-28

Van persie- No real form this season due to injury. Only recently received two 90 min matches. Another class act who would be a major beneficiary of Arsenals rich fixtures, as well as the advantage of having Fabregas back. DGW-27

I have not mentioned Tevez because I personally think unless, Dzeko overtakes him in BP, Goals, Assists, he will be a season keeper for me. Tries hard, and always capable of a good score. All personal opinion of course.

I havn't accounted for ownership, and cup ties. Lazy on the ownership front. And also not really sure whats happening with cup ties. If anyone can be bothered shedding light on that, would be great.

So which 3 strikers would you pick for the rest of the season?

Carroll and Tevez are also definites for me too sicne they have both been incredibly consistent, and Caroll was bought for 5m so frees up monies.

The City striker I choose will be there for pretty much the rest of the season.

Berba I'm planning to take out GW 27, for Carroll (DGW).

DJ will play most games until GW28 or 29 and when I have no other concerns he'll be out.

Playing the medium-term fixtures (about 6 or 8 GW's) is what I try to do with the majority of my team.

Given all those variables, I would wait until later in the window before wildcarding (GW26 or 27).

You'll know more about the Tevez / Dzeko situation.
You can see how Carroll looks after his injury.
You'll give Rooney a chance to find some form.
You'll see whether Berbs plays against Spurs as well as Rooney, which will give you a clue re his starting prospects for the rest of the season.
You'll see if RVP's legs of finest Waterford crystal have broken or not.

          Seriously though, good team.

Skrtel looks alright for the doubles but i'd have an exit strategy there. I'm also one of few not convinced by united strikers, Rooney still looks a way off massive points hauls and berba is a bit too hot and cold for me (i don't really like having players like that in my team), maybe swap to RVP down the line (with him i'm also waiting to see how much he starts over the next few weeks).

With Dzeko in the Man City team as a target man for the lay off/knock down, i'm i wrong in thinking that the likes of sliva/Kolarov FPL points will reduce as the crosses offer no assist?

Well up til now there has been noone getting on the end of them, so they could only go up or stay the same, not decrease.

I'd guess having a target man in the box makes their crossing more important. I think it's a positive thing for Kolarov definitely.

Cocoon, what i'm getting at is that they might assist the assist unless he scores himself.

Yeah i got that - and they might, of course. But i'd rather them getting assists mixed with assists of assists, than nothing.

My point is that having a target man in the box (as opposed to none), means there will be alot more emphasis on the 'crossers' to be involved again, and while this may not always lead *directly* to points, it can only be a good thing.

Playing telegraph game too so bring on assisting the assist, better thaan the 0 & 1 pts i've been getting for kolarov. The next ffew weeks will determine whether i keep him.

Yes he may well lay off/knock down but he scores headed goals so potential for assists is greater than it was with all the small players in City's team.

Before I do was hoping some of you would look over my team.

    Foster (Robinson)
    Coleman, Djourou, Vidic (Elmohamady, Tamas)
    Nani,Nasri,Van der Vaart, Bale (Ferguson)
    Tevez, Van Persie, Dzeko

    Afternoon all
I have the much derided Konchesky cluttering up my defence and obviously as he is persona non grata at Anfield I'd like him to bugger off. I plan on using my wildcard a bit later, however I am worried about price rises. Which of these defenders would you get for Konchesky this week AND they must play this gameweek as well as being a solid long term pick. Any opinions gratefully recieved.
    1) Coleman (liv)
    2) Kelly (EVE)
    3) Skrtel (EVE)
    4) Bramble (NEW)
    5) Bardsley (NEW)
    6) Alcaraaz (FUL)
    7) Dawson (MANU)
    8) Hangeland (wig)
    9) Hughes (wig)
    10) Johnson (AVL)
    11) Clark (bir)

Just to add that I have Al-Habsi in goal so maybe Alcaraz would be too much of a gamble

Possibly, which would impact his attacking potential, however Everton have some lovely fixtures in the very near future and at 5m he is a bargain now he has pretty much secured his first team status.

Well I was thinking along those lines with Djourou but the problem is that ideally, I would like my defenders to be as nailed on as possible. I believe Pantsil isn't a regular, well at least I think he isnt a regular.

Ha, I suppose. All this triple talk is turning my head. As I said above Coleman is the one I really want long term, but that would leave me with a defence of
Al-Habsi in goal then three from
        Coleman, Rafael, Knight, Kolarov, Crainey.
        Pretty weak.

    Alright Guys,

24,000 in the world and pretty happy but now have a WC related dilemma!

Mixing things up a bit, and made a strong team with great subs. But now i'm thinking that because all my other players are pretty much 100% certs to start, do i really need great subs?

so what i was thinking was downgrading nzogbia and r.johnson and berbatov for rooney and 2 others... so what im basically asking is...

    Nzogbia & R Johnson & Berbatov

    or

    Diame, Carr & Rooney.

Obviously, option 1 seems more logical as they are all better, but its only realy going to be Rooney/Berbatov that starts for the next few weeks? Take a punt on the Roo, or stick to safe?

Cheers guys! Hope next gw brings you joy 🙂

    Planned transfers

    Ferguson > Fabregas
    Torres > DJ Campbell

Look good or should I consider Lampard instead of Fabregas?

    My strike force is:
    Varney-Odemwingie-Balotelli

Looking to transfer Balotelli out. The obvious swap is Tevez (I have the funds).
But is there a better fit for the double GW the following week?
