We’re still waiting for the “Dalglish factor” to kick-in as Kenny fails to inspire a recovery in Liverpool’s fortunes; the Reds the latest to suffer defeat at the hands of Ian Holloway’s Blackpool in last night’s Bloomfield Road encounter. In the Carling Cup meanwhile, Wenger shuffles his pack and watches on while Ipswich expose defensive flaws to take a 1-0 lead into the Emirates second-leg…

Dalglish sprung a few surprises with his lineup. In the absence of suspended skipper Steven Gerrard, the Liverpool boss brought in Christian Poulsen and Milan Jovanovic to the midfield, while Glen Johnson returned after the birth of his baby boy. None of the trio made an impression and their places look far from secure ahead of the Merseyside derby with Everton at the weekend. Maxi Rodriguez and Paul Konchesky were left on the bench along with David Ngog as Dalglish again went with Fernando Torres as the lone striker.

Johnson took up an unfamiliar left—back role with Dalglish opting to keep faith in young Martin Kelly at right-back after his showing in the narrow defeat to United on Sunday. Kelly duly rewarded that decision by providing the assist for Torres’ opener within three minutes. At 4.2 in the Fantasy Premier League game, Kelly has emerged as a very decent short-term consideration. He would seem likely to hold his start for the Everton game and could cement this role for Liverpool’s run of three home matches in the next four (EVE wol FUL STK).

While Kelly has potential, Liverpool’s defensive frailty remains a big problem. Gary Taylor-Fletcher navigated past Dan Agger too easily for Blackpool’s equaliser, while Ian Evatt demonstrated Liverpool’s lack of aerial power by providing the assist for an unmarked DJ Campbell to head the second-half winner.

Torres’ early strike gave him his seventh goal of the season and just his second in nine games. Dalglish went into this game promising to get the best from the Spaniard and, with those three Anfield encounters to come, there’s every chance that we will see the Torres goal ratio improve in the coming Gameweeks. With Gerrard absence through suspension for the next two however, Torres would be a gamble given his price, even with the double fixture in Gameweek 24.

DJ Campbell’s goal was his second of the Gameweek and his seventh of the season. Campbell has now scored 5 in 5 games, providing outstanding value for his 4.6 price tag. With his place seemingly secure in Ian Holloway’s lineup, he remains a good option for Blackpool’s continued run of home matches and the two additional double fixtures to come in Gameweeks 24 and 27. The Seasiders have 5 home matches in the next 7.

Charlie Adam remains the jewel in Holloway’s crown however. Predictably, the Scot came out of this match with another maximum 3 point Bonus haul, giving him a total of 5 over the two Gameweek fixtures. Adam has now amassed a staggering 30 Bonus Points over the season – his nearest rival, Carlos Tevez, is back on 23.

Incredibly Adam has scored Bonus in 6 of his last 8 starts, totaling 17 points in that run. He has not scored a single goal and returned just 1 assist in the 8 game spell, emphasising that Adam’s influence is so strong, he doesn’t need conventional Fantasy returns to catch the eye and earn the supplementary Bonus Points. The only potential caveat to holding Adam over the next month is his future at Bloomfield Road. The Blackpool skipper continues to be linked with other clubs, with Liverpool now amongst those coveting his services.

Arsenal’s Carling Cup defeat came as a surprise, even if the weekend struggle against Championship Leeds hinted that the Gunners would face a task at Portman Road. Arsene Wenger’s side failed to raise their game and dispatch of the Tractor Boys, slipping to a 1-0 defeat that will likely force Wenger to field an even stronger starting XI for the second-leg in a fortnight.

Last night’s lineup saw the likes of Nicklas Bendtner, Andrey Arshavin, Kieran Gibbs and Theo Walcott earn starts as Wenger chose to rest Samir Nasri, Robin Van Persie, Tomas Rosicky and Gael Clichy. Cesc Fabregas and Jack Wilshere provided stability in central midfield, while Denilson came in for Alex Song in the holding role.

We can expect a full reshuffle for the weekend trip to Upton Park with Nasri, Van Persie, Clichy and Song all looking certain starters. Walcott and Arshavin’s starts look less secure and it seems likely that the two will rotate for the second half of the season, with Nasri swapping flanks accordingly. Up front the competition looks fierce, particularly if Wenger opts for a lone striker as expected. Bendtner failed to take his opportunity last night and remains below Van Persie and Marouane Chamakh in the pecking order.

Johan Djourou and Laurent Koscielny started in tandem at the back once again, with Sebastien Squillaci sidelined with a hamstring injury. That pairing look to be first choice, with Djourou providing potential with his 4.2 price tag. Wenger is in the market for a new centre-back however after Thomas Vermaelen’s recent setback in his recovery from a Achilles injury. Djourou’s potential could well be short-lived then, particularly given last night’s defensive showing.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Your thoughts if you don't mind:

    1. Is Carroll likely to play and if so for a decent amount of time?

    2. If not would Barton be decent choice or a potential red card vs. fierce rivals?

    3. Would it be silly to bench Evra to allow Huth, Coleman and Dann to play?

Is it me or is there a huge increase in the number of betting shops in London High Streets? I went to an area i had not visited in 2 yrs and on the same road i counted at least 7 betting shops.I remember there used to be only 1(I think it was corals) on the same road. Also heard the crime rate in the area had increased in the last 2 years dont know if this is the reason

Doing these predictions is seriously brave from the Crew, it can never really make them look good because it's so hard to predict exactly what will happen.

Then again, I remember saying they went a bit over the top with the Adam prediction. Adam doesn't do goals or assists, he does BONUS!

Not sure what Wenger was thinking playing Fabs for 90mins last night.

Surely that increases chance of him not playing full game this weekend?

Thinking of doing Konch + Bale -> Djourou + Fabs

but maybe Nasri would be a better short-term option with a WC correction if needed before gw27?

I think Fabregas chances of playing this gameweek increased because they lost.

There is no way Wenger can rest key players this weekend and endure the risk of starting a bad run. I'm confident it will be the best possible side playing West Ham.

          Wouldn't have Terry.

Poor fixtures, bad form and expensive. Bardsley is also not the best option. Downgrade to a Fulham defender, Blackpool defender, or if you really, really want Sunderland coverage, get Bramble.

Nice front 8, but watch the Carroll situation. Perhaps upgrade to Berbatov with the saved Terry funds.

    (AL-Habsi/Simpson/Foley/N'Zog)

Hangelaand is getting a lot of transfers in he will be going up either tonight or tommorow. Selling Baines and thinking about saving a 1.8 and getting in Walker. Reckon he will start most games? Any Villa fans about? Otherwise I will get in Brede 🙂

I don;t have the bench to cope with Drogba being dropped. This could be my week to switch him - was going to for the dgw anyway.

    Suitable replacements
    Berbatov
    Rooney
    Torres
    RVP

I already have tevez so which would be the best replacement?

seen again last night in Walton. You were so right about Sharpham Lane...his route is Asney Road down to Small More Lane back into Walton then the fields at the back there. We are aiming to leave food and some old clothes near a house there and lay in wait. I can't believe that a random post on this website would produce such good advice. the estate is indeed there and he has been seen around.

Hmm yeah. As noted we'll know more tomorrow but that article that has been doing the rounds really doesn't say anything.

Yes, all transfers will be made Sat am, not before. I'd happily lose my drog, if I could get my dog back.

Rooney/Berbs are frustrating but do appeal at the mo. RVP is for my wildcard pre Arsenal double.

Yeah they appeal to me as well, it's just that that transfer would be so much better next gameweek rather than this.

I don't expect Rooney or Berbs to do much at Spurs, but Drogba should have any chance to get a good score at home to Blackburn.

          still not found him?

How about leaving a few bones out tied to stuff with a missing poster on/near it?

Idea: go to the butcher, explain, and ask for a few bones.

Go to specific areas, spread out, and see if you can get someone to check on the bone every now and then throughout the day and give you a call if they see your dog. Offer them a reward?

If the dog does find a bone, he has something to eat, but hopefully has to stay in the same place to enjoy it. if he knows there is food there, he might return even if he leaves.

Because there is a missing poster there, it might occur to other dog owners to dissuade their dog from eating the bone.

          What do you think?

I'm at a loss as to what to do this week.

    Gordon Kingson
    Coleman Rafael Kolarov (Konchesky, Enrique)
    VdV Nani Nasri Adam (Bale)
    Torres Tevez (c) Elmander

I will keep an eye on the Adam transfer situation but assuming he is still at Blackburn I am thinking one of the following.

    a) Konchesky OUT - Djourou / Hangeland IN
    b) Elmander OUT - DJ Campbell IN
    c) Save transfer
    d) Other

Hangelaand, Nasri & VDV transfers in gathering pace today. Coleman, Tev, Fab, Lamps should rise if their protection passes. Dzeko will prob pass the 100% if people keep getting him in but presume his protection has a few days to go yet.

Probably gonna wildcard in gw27 to

    Foster *~4m keeper
Rafael Kolarov Coleman Walker (some brum defender)
    VDV Nani Fabs Nasri Adam
Tevez Carroll RVP/Dzeko(depending on how they both do til then)

Would very much like some WBA cover because their double is tasty, but can't see which of the forward 8 i would sacrifice so probably just gonna leave that one!

Any thoughts? I'm only making one change to the front 8 there, just my defence/keepers than need sorting really.

Thanks. I guess I'll sit tight. If I got one of them out it just meant I had the funds for Kyrgiakos to Rafael.
Yeah Drogba out makes sense, was just thinking about it because sitting in 2nd, 70 points off my minileague leader who has Torres.

Don't worry, it's all very well trying to find differentials but the bottom line is you need to put out a team who'll score most points. If you ship Torres you'll just want him back next week and you've got to fancy Drogs at home to Blackburn.

After a quick skim of your team I'd be looking to bring in a defender this week. Like me you've got dead wood in a Liverpool defender and Kolarov who is prone to rotation. I'd personally looking at Hangeland. Fair chance of a cleanie this week and a double next week. Your front 3 is perfect for this week though!

Thanks a lot 🙂 Really helpful. Yeah could do Kolarov to Hangeland or wait a week and go Kyrgiakos to Rafael with Drogba to RVP. Quite fancy Kolarov to get LB with the way Mancini has been talking about him. Played well apart from that Blackpool game.
Congrats on your score by the way!
