We’re still waiting for the “Dalglish factor” to kick-in as Kenny fails to inspire a recovery in Liverpool’s fortunes; the Reds the latest to suffer defeat at the hands of Ian Holloway’s Blackpool in last night’s Bloomfield Road encounter. In the Carling Cup meanwhile, Wenger shuffles his pack and watches on while Ipswich expose defensive flaws to take a 1-0 lead into the Emirates second-leg…

Dalglish sprung a few surprises with his lineup. In the absence of suspended skipper Steven Gerrard, the Liverpool boss brought in Christian Poulsen and Milan Jovanovic to the midfield, while Glen Johnson returned after the birth of his baby boy. None of the trio made an impression and their places look far from secure ahead of the Merseyside derby with Everton at the weekend. Maxi Rodriguez and Paul Konchesky were left on the bench along with David Ngog as Dalglish again went with Fernando Torres as the lone striker.

Johnson took up an unfamiliar left—back role with Dalglish opting to keep faith in young Martin Kelly at right-back after his showing in the narrow defeat to United on Sunday. Kelly duly rewarded that decision by providing the assist for Torres’ opener within three minutes. At 4.2 in the Fantasy Premier League game, Kelly has emerged as a very decent short-term consideration. He would seem likely to hold his start for the Everton game and could cement this role for Liverpool’s run of three home matches in the next four (EVE wol FUL STK).

While Kelly has potential, Liverpool’s defensive frailty remains a big problem. Gary Taylor-Fletcher navigated past Dan Agger too easily for Blackpool’s equaliser, while Ian Evatt demonstrated Liverpool’s lack of aerial power by providing the assist for an unmarked DJ Campbell to head the second-half winner.

Torres’ early strike gave him his seventh goal of the season and just his second in nine games. Dalglish went into this game promising to get the best from the Spaniard and, with those three Anfield encounters to come, there’s every chance that we will see the Torres goal ratio improve in the coming Gameweeks. With Gerrard absence through suspension for the next two however, Torres would be a gamble given his price, even with the double fixture in Gameweek 24.

DJ Campbell’s goal was his second of the Gameweek and his seventh of the season. Campbell has now scored 5 in 5 games, providing outstanding value for his 4.6 price tag. With his place seemingly secure in Ian Holloway’s lineup, he remains a good option for Blackpool’s continued run of home matches and the two additional double fixtures to come in Gameweeks 24 and 27. The Seasiders have 5 home matches in the next 7.

Charlie Adam remains the jewel in Holloway’s crown however. Predictably, the Scot came out of this match with another maximum 3 point Bonus haul, giving him a total of 5 over the two Gameweek fixtures. Adam has now amassed a staggering 30 Bonus Points over the season – his nearest rival, Carlos Tevez, is back on 23.

Incredibly Adam has scored Bonus in 6 of his last 8 starts, totaling 17 points in that run. He has not scored a single goal and returned just 1 assist in the 8 game spell, emphasising that Adam’s influence is so strong, he doesn’t need conventional Fantasy returns to catch the eye and earn the supplementary Bonus Points. The only potential caveat to holding Adam over the next month is his future at Bloomfield Road. The Blackpool skipper continues to be linked with other clubs, with Liverpool now amongst those coveting his services.

Arsenal’s Carling Cup defeat came as a surprise, even if the weekend struggle against Championship Leeds hinted that the Gunners would face a task at Portman Road. Arsene Wenger’s side failed to raise their game and dispatch of the Tractor Boys, slipping to a 1-0 defeat that will likely force Wenger to field an even stronger starting XI for the second-leg in a fortnight.

Last night’s lineup saw the likes of Nicklas Bendtner, Andrey Arshavin, Kieran Gibbs and Theo Walcott earn starts as Wenger chose to rest Samir Nasri, Robin Van Persie, Tomas Rosicky and Gael Clichy. Cesc Fabregas and Jack Wilshere provided stability in central midfield, while Denilson came in for Alex Song in the holding role.

We can expect a full reshuffle for the weekend trip to Upton Park with Nasri, Van Persie, Clichy and Song all looking certain starters. Walcott and Arshavin’s starts look less secure and it seems likely that the two will rotate for the second half of the season, with Nasri swapping flanks accordingly. Up front the competition looks fierce, particularly if Wenger opts for a lone striker as expected. Bendtner failed to take his opportunity last night and remains below Van Persie and Marouane Chamakh in the pecking order.

Johan Djourou and Laurent Koscielny started in tandem at the back once again, with Sebastien Squillaci sidelined with a hamstring injury. That pairing look to be first choice, with Djourou providing potential with his 4.2 price tag. Wenger is in the market for a new centre-back however after Thomas Vermaelen’s recent setback in his recovery from a Achilles injury. Djourou’s potential could well be short-lived then, particularly given last night’s defensive showing.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

This weekend - should I bench Carroll or Bent?
Or is that a stupid question.

Not stupid at all. I was going to bring Bent in for this game, so I'd bench Carroll and see what shape he's in. He may only come on for 10 minutes or so.

I find myself in a team with Konchesky and Kolarov and I'm trying to run all the possible transfer scenarios in my head, but I want to see what the community thinks.... Some more the backline:

    GK: Foster, Jussie
    DF: Vidic, Samba, Crainey
.9m in the bank, 2 free transfer this week...

    Thoughts?

I think the problem is, if he went to any other good team he might be great.

But let's think about the other expensive signings Manchester City have made that barely get a game.

Take a minute, double check. You might have missed a couple.

Now lets think about all the players who have performed consistently, and are guaranteed a place.

City is a collection of very good players more than it is a "football team".

I think it's more a case of wishful thinking. I don't have Tevez and I'd love there to be a cheaper alternative that reduces Tevez's points tally.

Deep down I know I should just go and buy Tevez, no matter how much his price has risen by.

I'm watching the German Bundesliga regularly. The last 2 seasons - especially last season - Dzeko was massive. He was scoring for fun. This season though he doesn't seem to be interested, a little bit like Arshavin/Berbatov. I will definitely wait a couple of games how he adapts to the BPL before I consider him.

I think he'll score many goals, but I don't see him get many BPs due to lack of fighting spirit...

most people in the game dont play the game anymore, so bale is present in all the redundant teams because he was a hot pick at the start of the season.
get either rooney or rvp, not berba due to his rotation risk.

Berbs isn't even sure to start both games in the DGW so not sure he's the best pick for that week compared with Rooney. That said Rooney will probably pick up another injury before then anyway.

I'd expect Walker will play regularly for Villa. He was doing really well at QPR and they wanted him for the season. There would be no point in spurs loaning him to Villa to warm the bench, i imagine they offered some assurances that they would play or the loan doesn't make any sense.

At 4m he certainly looks a better prospect than Simpson or Jara imo, gonna watch for a few weeks but i fully expect he'll be in my WC team.

Any thoughts on how Dzeko signing will affect the role that Yaya Toure has in the City side?

I find it hard to imagine how Mancini could incorporate both Dzeko and Tevez into the formation that they are playing at the moment, unless Tevez is shifted out wide - where he'd played before - but I doubt he'd be too happy about that. So if there is a change in formation, resulting in both Dzeko and Tevez playing up top, where does Yaya then play?

I ask because I'm considering bringing my Yaya > N'Zogbia transfer forward a week, despite the good fixture that City have. Although he's playing fairly far forward, I can easily see Yaya doing absolutely nothing, like most weeks recently, and when N'Zog is playing - especially at home - he's always a good shout for points.

What if they followed our beautiful example with Dzeko in place of Carroll, Tevez in place of Nolan and Silva and Balomehelli on the flanks? That would leave the two deeper midfield options for Yaya and one of Barry or De Jong.
As for the transfer it makes logical sense, but you could be stung if City go mental against Wolves or if Dzeko doesnt start meaning the formation (and ergo Yaya's role) remains unchanged.

Hmm, nice thinking. I have the same planned transfer for next week (Toure > Nzog) and may also consider shifting it forward because of this.

I really can't see Tevez being shifted out wide, surely?

Most likely, I think they'll line up as normal and Dzeko will replace Tevez with 20-30 minutes to go.

Alternatively, they will shift to 442 which will probably see Yaya play a lot deeper.

I can't see Tevez playing wide, they don't want to pish him off more than he already is, surely 🙂

Yeah, Tevez playing out wide is very unlikely...

I'll probably do the transfer. Even if he does play in that advanced role I still think that N'Zog has the better points potential.

Only worry is that without Tevez, if City go mental then I'll be screwed by not having any of their players. Kolarov doesn't count. 😉

No, the Snes has aged well.

SNES goes for around £20 on ebay with no games.

the problem is, if you plug it into a plasma/LCD with the RF, it doesn't like it at all, it goes wavy and fuzzy. Need to factor in the cost of a scart cable which is about 10-15 quid, not sure if you can get them for the SNES.

I still have about 20 games for each one, but I don't have a SNES. Bomberman and Micromachines also have stood up will to the sands of time.

I dont think any hits should be taken while the wildcard is available. Patchwork til you WC.

Also, dont get in Davies. That lad broke my heart. I studied the OPTA stats and he came out trumps, he was a big points haul waiting to happen. Brought the t!tface in and he did nothing... til i sold him again obviously!

+1 Dempsey has a much better potential for points than Davies, and wigan's dgw matchups make it harder for nzog to get points than a Fulham player. I think evra will do better than rio.

    Foster
Carr - Bardley - Kolarov (Foley Perch)
Nasri - Gerrard - VDV - Adam (Routledge)
    Varney - Drogba - Tevez

    3.3M in bank.

Planning to play my WC next week. What shall I do this week? I have 1 free transfer.
Obviously Gerrard needs to come out, so was thinking either for Lampard or Nani. For a hit: It appears Drogba may not start, so who shall I replace him for? I'm leaning towards Dzeko or Torres. OR should I change one of my midfielders or defenders and go with 2 up front?

    Cheers.

"On the morning of 3 May 1998, he was found hanged in a deserted lock-up garage he had broken into, in Shoreditch, London, after visiting Chariots Roman Spa, a local gay sauna.[12][13] In his suicide note, he stated: "I realised that I had already been presumed guilty. I do not want to give any more embarrassment to my friends and family."[12] An inquest in London, held on 9 September 1998, heard that there was in fact no warrant out for Fashanu's arrest and that the American police had already dropped the investigation due to a lack of evidence. The inquest recorded a verdict of suicide."
